Here's my story since I am still debating about starting a PJ.
I got engaged in Sept. 09, but here's everything that leads up to it. As you will see my finance is a joker. We have been dating almost six years, and been talking about marriage for 5 years. He's a pc geek and a future social worker.
Back at the end of July, my best friend got engaged and I was to be in the wedding. Well it was a quickie bc her DH was going overseas soon for the war. So I was on a mission to find a CHEAP purple bridesmaid dress. Now DF and I were visit friends and family in Miami and my FMIL when this happened and she drove me all over the Miami area to find a dress. We did evenutally at JCPennys, yay. Well durning that time, he's "baby", car, broke down and he sold it. Little did I know he saw this as a sign. He's been wanting to buy the ring for sometime now, but held off due my father's wishes, but decided why not since he had the money. The day I was out looking for that purple dress, he went out with his best friend looking at rings. They went all over Miami and eventually ended up getting a vintage looking band at a whole sale jeweler. (It reminds me of my great-grandmother's) Later that day he was so lovely and I didn't know why but dismissed the whole notion he was acting weird. (Side note- his parents are divorced and remarried/in relationships.) Next day he went to his dad's and his step mom was so excited to hear that we were going to get engaged, she offered to give him a diamond from her family ring to be used as the center stone.

How Cool is that!
Well, that center stone his stepmom gave turns out that the diamond is over a 120yrs and is a miner's cut. It's not quite a round diamond or a square cut. It's unique like me.

So now all my DF had to do was to tell my Dad and get his blessing...please sound the death tune...this wasn't easy as you think. We are both in our last yr of college, but we have a 5yr age difference.

Anywho, so after asking my Dad again, he said no way. I was getting annoyed at this point. All of my friends were getting engaged and their parents were happy and excited for them. My parents weren't. To make a long story short, after many talks with my parents, I got them to somewhat get my point and not make me wait 5 more years to get engaged. My Dad called up my DF and gave him his blessing and then asked me later how does the ring look...

That was my face. I said Dad, there is no ring yet.
After this, my DF brings to act weird and like a joker.

In August, DF started something called Rose Friday. Every Friday for like 6 or 7 weeks, he would come home and present me a rose or roses by getting down on one knee telling me how much he loves and adores me. Each and every time he did this, I thought he was going to propose to me. He never did. It drove me nuts and he enjoyed that. He though I was too cute upset.

The week after my best friend got married, his mom came to visit us. We had dinner that night out after I got off my part time job. I drove back in my car and he took his mom to "walmarts". Little did I know, she had the ring with her. My DF took one look at it and knew that tonight was the night to propose instead of waiting.
When I got home to our apt. I decided to relax and watch tv our cat children. He came home and got down on one knee again. I said to myself here we go again with the craziness. He asked me why his made me so nervous. Of course I told him it was because I thought he was going to propose and that it wasn't nice to keep teasing me. Suddenly, he took out this rose, but it didn't look like a really rose. I don't remember anything he said at this point. I was zone out thinking about how weird that there was a line in the middle rose. Suddenly, it opened up with the ring in there followed by Will you Marry me? At that point I lost it crying and hyper ventilating. Those 6-7 weeks of rose craziness was worth this. The crying went on for about a minute before he asked if that meant yes. Of course I said it did and yes! Of course, our cats thought we were crazy, but I was the happiest person ever.
And that's the story lol
