I've done some searches and read some threads on some fantastic bargains thru Priceline & Hotwire on Downtown Disney hotels...

I am exploring EVERY AVENUE for accommodations in October.

I would love to hear people's great rates/experiences with Downtown Disney hotels, and any advice you have on securing this rate thru Priceline/Hotwire, etc.

I know there have been good & bad experiences with Grosvenor...it sounded very appealing til I started digging. I still may consider it...any comments on this, or the NEW Holiday Inn or the Hilton, etc.? :Pinkbounc

I'm staying at the Grosvenor in 3 weeks. This will be my 3rd or 4th stay there (can't remember). My son and I really like the location, the refrigerator in the room, and the compactness of the resort. We've stayed at lots of WDW resorts (no other DD resorts) and the only one we like better than the Grosvenor is the Contemporary. I've stayed there 2 or 3 times on Priceline bids.

I've read some of the negative reviews and plan to look at everything closely this trip. I've always stayed in a wing room and I've just never noticed some of the things they talk about. I guess I'm just so excited to be on vacation. The staff has always been friendly. My room has been worn but clean. The food has been good and reasonably priced. I think sometimes your expectations can sway your reactions. Since I've enjoyed my stays here in the past I expect to enjoy myself here in the future.

I sometimes worry about using priceline because I like a place that has good transportation so my son and his friend can come and go as they please. If I 'won' a different resort then we'd have to schedule touring during the same times. This way if someone wants to sleep in they can make it to the parks when they're ready.

I'm traveling with my 17 year old son, his 16 year old friend, and my sister. I'm renting 2 rooms at the rate of $59 per room. My rate came from using the Orlando Magicard. If you add in the tax and resort fee it comes to something like $74 per room. Since I'm renting 2 rooms I was looking for good rates. The code rate for the value resorts at WDW was only a few dollars more so I gave my son a choice. He picked the Grosvenor. I think the rooms are a little larger and that bonus refrigerator makes a big difference. He also likes how near Downtown Disney is to the hotel.

Anyway, look for my review soon after I return June 16th. We'll be there for a week.

I got the Doubletree Club on Hotwire for $44. It is not in DD but you pull out of the parking lot turn right at the traffic light and you are on Hotel Blvd. Go to the betterbidding site and you will be able to tell what hotels are coming up on hotwire. We stayed at what is now the Holiday Inn in 2001 and although it was only a 10 min. walk to DD I liked the Doubletree Club better. And you could walk to DD but it would be about 20 min., unless you are a really fast walker.

If you join the Wyndham frequent guest program (it's free on their website) you will receive occasional emails alerting you to special sale rates only available to members -- I got four nights at the Wyndham Palace in August for $49 a night. What's nice is that because you are booking through the hotel's website, they don't give you any crap when you check in -- you get to use the special express line, and they give you a nice room. I've gotten the Wyndham Palace and the DTD Hilton through Priceline in the past and I have always ended up with a bad room and gotten a bit of an attitude at check in -- this has always been during peak tourist periods, so they were pretty full, but the attitude is not necessary. Other people haven't had this problem, though, so maybe it's just me.

definitely check out www.biddingfortravel.com and watch the page to see when hotels start coming up - when they release inventory to priceline.

Last year (Aug) we did that and grabbed the Best Western on Hotel Plaza for $25/night and we (DS7 and I) really liked it there - we had a view of DD from our balcony and could also see the Epcot fireworks at night.

There is always riks with priceline as you may not get what you think you will - but if you follow biddingfortravel you have a much btter idea.
