I'm curious to hear from folks who have been unsuccessful in booking DVC stays.

Info I'm most interested in seeing is:

1. Resort.
2. Room size / view.
3. Month of (attempted) stay.
4. How far in advance was booking attempt?
5a. Did you waitlist (Y/N)?
5b. Was the waitlist request successful?
6a. Were you offered a different resort / room size for your dates?
6b. If so, did you accept the alternate room?

Couldn't book either Epcot resort for a studio in early Dec. @ 7mos. Took OKW instead.

Uh, probably a given, but in case anyone was wondering, there is virtually no availability at all at any resort November 24-28. That's after checking today--just a little more than two months out.

Just so you realize it's "being in the right place [that is, making the call] at the right time", I was fortunate enough to get a standard view studio at BWV at 7 months for the second week of December. However, my most recent "unsuccess" was a one BR BW view in January. Yes, I wait-listed, and 2 months later it came through (yeah!)

I tried to book a BWV standard studio on April 7, for Dec 3-4...had to get on the waitlist (got a garden view). After a few months, (June) I changed to a VWL studio...had no problem getting that.

I tried to book a BWV standard 1 Bdrm on April 7 for Dec 5-10...had to get on the waitlist (once again, got a garden view). The waitlist came through on that one on Aug 30. I am SOOO excited!

I have been waitlisted for a BCV two bedroom dedicated with two queens for Friday Oct 22nd since 4 months (to the day) out. AND I have been waitlisted to a two bedroom (anything) for the whole week (17-23) AND I have been waitlisted for the first 5 days for a two bedroom dedicated queen full option, which is what our last day booked is....

No luck so far.... and the 31 day window is tomorrow or the next day.... :-(

I guess the only booking failure I've ever had was trying to get my home resort BCV at 4mos for our first trip. Got BWV and was happy, just wanted to stay at my home resort for the first trip. No biggie.

I was happy to get HHI for our spring break trip at 7mos, I thought that one would've been hard but no problem. Can't wait to try it!

After we closed on our contract in April 2004, we tried to book a 2 bedroom at BWV (home resort) October 16-23 (yes, we now know that this is a very popular time for DVCers but also happens to be the week my son's school district has off for a fall break). We are booked at OKW and waitlisted at BWV and BCV. We'd be very surprised if we got the call because we will only change our reservation if we can switch the whole reservation over at once, no day-by-day switching for this family!!

Imagine my excitement last April when I booked a BWV bw view 1br for Sept 3 - 7. Then, imagine my disappointment when Hurricane Frances cancelled us.

We've been waitlisted for a studio or 1br at any resort for new dates (Oct 14 - 18) since Sept 2. Today I officially gave up and accepted the fact that we're not going this year...or next for that matter (cruise). We now have to wait 740 more days for our first trip home (Aug 2006).

{{sigh}}

Well, at least we made it HH earlier this summer. That was a nice taste of DVC. Alas, not enough to satisfy my appetite for our home resort.

We've taken nine trips home - one per year - since becoming OKW owners. We have always been able to get a 2 BR at time of booking for OKW. We usually book at the 11 month window, but have booked as late as 4 months ahead. In 2003, we were unsuccessful in switching our 2BR reservation from OKW to BWV at the 7 month window. We then waitlisted for BWV or BCV for a 2BR. Within a week, BWV came through. We kept the BCV waitlist, but it never came through despite lots of availabilty being added as BCV sold out of inventory and DVC declared rooms into inventory.

couldn't get Nov 24 25 26 at SSR had to book cash at WDW resort. Not complaining though we are excited to stay at 2 places believe it or not. That was about 7 months out and we didn't waitlist. It saves oints for next year :) since we are already in borrow mode LOL.
