Island Cricket, my husband and daughter will both be using fanny packs, and I may be, too, if I can't find anything else I like better. I wouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks -- Your back, neck, and shoulders will thank you at the end of the day if you're
wearing all the stuff instead of
carrying it.
Waist packs 1) keep your stuff secure, 2) are convenient on rides, and 3) are much easier on your back than a messenger bag, shoulder bag, or backpack.
The big drawback for me (and the reason I'm still fussing over what bag to take) is that it's hard to find one big enough for everything I want to carry, but still small enough to be relatively unobtrusive. I just got an Everest butt pack for $8.95 from
Amazon that has two big pockets plus two outside pockets -- one big enough for my camera, the other big enough for my cell phone -- that may suit me just fine. Only problem is there's not really room for ponchos, snacks, and "Line Tamers". But I guess that's what my hubby's butt pack is for!
