Post Office Food Drive

I know its over, but just curious if anyone actually left something for a donation. I/we were the only ones on our street and plus about the other 2 streets that left something. This is so sad. We live in a fairly decent neighborhood. I just cant believe the attitude of people around here. They are so thoughtless. Our church is in another town, but the pastor said once a man came and said he called like 5 local churches and we were also the only church that offered the guy to come and receive some food for his family for free. Gee. I cant wait to move back to texas some day. That is why my locaton is not in my post. I am embarresed to say where I live now. The people here are so into themselves, it is so sad.

I did not leave anything..........but I didn't know about it either. I never read the newspaper, and hardly watch t.v. I go to the post office EVERY day to get the mail at work, and never saw any sign in there for this.

I was very disappointed yesterday when I heard about this at my WW meeting. I would have loved to leave something.....

I didn't leave anything this year but I normally do. I didn't have anything suitable to leave in the house this year and forgot to make it to the store.

I always take part of the grocery donations as well when you can leave something in the basket or buy the premade bags for $5, $10, $15, or $20. I usually just do the premade bag.

I put a bag of food out Friday night so that I wouldn't forget to on Saturday morning. I guess the mailman was the one who took it .

I don't think you should assume that people didn't leave anything because they don't care about helping others. I for one didn't even know about a drive sponsored by the Post Office since I never go to ours. I do however know about the drives at DD's school, my office, DH's office and our church. I frequently donate things to drives. I also give cash donations to our food bank which they really appreciate because they can make the money go much farther than I can.

Just because many of your neighbors didn't give to this doesn't mean they weren't carting a bag off to their office, church etc. I wish I could give to everything but the reality is I can't so I have to pick and choose.

I forgot to put something out! We had a lot going on Saturday, and it just completely left my mind. However, as CEDmom said, people give to various charities, and may not have know about this one or just choose to donate elsewhere.

We did have a 'drive' last night in our home Bible study group where everybody brought a few things to send to the troops in Iraq. (One of our church members is stationed there now.) Even though there are only about 7 families that come (some are single-person family) there was still so much brought that it filled up my kitchen table! You can find generosity, it just may not be at your mailbox!

Yep, I left a big bag of non-perishible food in our extra large mail box. I am sure the mail carrier didn't appreciate how heavy it was! I didn't see any other flags up on our street here, but there was one out by the new place.

For our community, we received post cards in the mail about the post office drive. Also, the local cub scout troop helps out since the mail route is a "walking route". The cub scouts put notices on doors the previous week and collected the food the following week. They then delivered the food to the drop off location.

We had a good turn out in our neighborhood, as the food filled the trunks of several cars.

What a good feeling the boys had when they realized the impact that they were having.

I left a bag out Saturday morning for my postman. I'm surprised when ppl say they didn't know about this. I got 2 cards in my mailbox telling me about it. 1 was a week b4 and another 1 on thursday. I never go to the post office. But i do agree with the others who you can't really know who donates and who doesn't. As far as i know Dh and i were the only ones on our block who donated, but we left for breakfast over an hour b4 the postman's usual arrival and left it out on our way. After breakfast we ran errands and didn't come home till after the mail came. So maybe someone else did donate.
And i don't live in that nice of a neighborhood either. Its decent but mostly renters who don't have much money, so i can't blame them if they didn't want to give extra food away.

But i would like to see how much they collected. I think its a good time of year for it, cause ppl think about Food banks at Christmas and Thanksgiving. but how often do they think about it during the summer? Ppl are hungry then 2.

Our carrier left a bag with an explanation last Wednesday. I filled it up on Saturday morning and left it outside. I think that's a nice deal

We were left a bag and a post card too. I filled the bag and left it out, I didn't know it was a national drive, I thought it was just local. Duh....

Most people left lots of stuff here. I even wondered what vehicles the postal people were using to pick up all the bags. It's a rural route and the carriers usually only have a small Jeep or SUV. I think it's a wonderful endeavour. Our local markets also have a similar drive a few times a year. The food kitchens really do appreciate it.

Yes, I did leave 3 cans of tuna, two cans of veggies and a box of soup mix.

I live in a fairly well off condo (66 units) and the mailman had left us 3 boxes for the food donations. When I dropped off my stuff Friday night there were just a few other items. I felt like leaving a note for the other residents who hadn't donated to get over themselves and do something good for others.

You can't force anyone to donate but what could it cost? It's not a hardship for the majority in our building.

The other thing that gets me about where I live is that I often see perfectly good items thrown into the trash. Those could be donated to a shelter also and we have several donation boxes right down the block. It's not out of the way. Instead, the items go in the dumpster. If I get a chance to grab them I do and then bring them to the donation box myself. It's not that difficult but too many people just don't seem to care.
