OK, this is really a question for people like me and mine. We don't get to go to DLR very often. It's a super special trip. In fact, my dh informed me that this would be "it" for a "while" because he wants to do something else on vacation. We were there in 2011 and will be back this July, and I feel lucky to be going back!

So, I'm planning and researching and getting excited, but I'm also sad already! I know it will go by so fast and I don't know when I'll get to go back. I feel so silly, but it's a real emotion. I think I'm going to have Post-Disneyland Blues syndrome when I get back. I don't know how to fight it.

Does anybody else feel this way? Or felt this way? Please don't scold me for being ridiculous:sad1:

We get the post Disney blues every time we go (2-3 times a year). Even when we know we will be back within months! My DH has said the same thing about trying a new vacation spot, but then we never do! We give the kids the option to do San Diego and they like that idea but refuse to give up a Disney trip!

That's funny! I can't imagine going 3 times in one year! How fun! You're so lucky your husband will do that! Don't get me wrong, I love my dh, he is an incredible hubby and terrific father. He just doesn't like being in crowds. And who does? But there are those of us who are willing to put up with it. He hates it. He loves to camp and hunt and fish and we have horses. He's super active. He just would rather do stuff away from people. *sigh*

I told my ds15 to ask for DLR for his high school graduation instead of having a party. He thought it was a good idea.

I also get the post DL blues, and we go several times a year. We have been season pass holders for over 4 years and my DH has said this is the last year. He wants to plan one big vacation a year instead of a bunch of smaller ones. DD12 is starting an advanced program at school this year. If she has 3 unexcused absences she gets kicked from the program, so our anytime vacationing style has to drastically change. I know I will be at DL at least 2 more times this year, but I feel like I have to say goodbye to something I love. There really should be an official diagnosis for people like us.

School makes everything hard, doesn't it? In 2011 we took our two boys out for a week in early December. One was in 8th grade and one was in 6th grade. It was a lot of work to get caught up. School is almost out now, but next year I will have a sophmore and an 8th grader and a 1st grader and a pre-schooler (but I don't worry about that :)) I just can't do that anymore. It's too hard on all of us. Both my boys do school sports so taking them out during fall or spring means missing practice or games which they don't want. Not to mention it can really affect your grades to miss a week of school. And I won't drive that far for less than a week. And flying is too much $$$ for 6 of us. So we are stuck with summer and the crowds if I'm lucky enough to even be there!

And, yes, there should be an official diagnosis for us. :crazy2: And a treatment! Is there a therapist on Disboards? :)

I am lucky that my hubby is almost is nuts about Disney as me!! We are fortunate to be able to go a few times a year. We usually do one trip with 3 days in the park, the Halloween party and a one day trip some time in between. It's only a 4 hour drive but still a very expensive over night trip!! We were hoping to purchase APs this year but the plumbing in our house decided to fail instead:sad:...Not sure when we will have the cash for 5 APs again!!
I like graduation trip idea!! Wonder if I can convince my DH that my daughters "graduating" to the next level in Girl Scouts is worthy of a trip??

We have taken them out of school a few times a year. I have a 6th and 4th grader. They are both 4.0 students and go to a small school (only 125 K-8th grade students). I also work at their school. Their teachers just put them on independent study and let them do the work ahead of time. We are going this coming week and both girls are already done with next week's work. DD12 did miss a volleyball game last Fall.
Next year DD12 will be in an advanced placement program at a different school that will not allow the independent study, so everything changes. We decided to just plan one BIG trip next Summer. Looks like we will tour the East coast and end our trip in WDW. Hopefully I will be excited enough about that to not be too sad about missing DL.

Bummer on the plumbing! :( That is no fun. Your husband sounds like the kind of guy you might be able to convince that Girl Scouts is worthy! haha

I'm already scheming for a girls only trip in a couple years. On our first family trip we went with some good friends. Well, the dad in that group said that was his last trip. He was done. So recently I suggested to my friend, the mom, that she and I and her mom take her dd and my dd's. There's a big age gap, but we could have fun and we wouldn't stay for a week. My boys would not be happy. We could stay on property because I wouldn't need so many beds. The thing is, if I don't take my girls more, they won't remember. I went when I was 5 or 6 and all I remember are the tea cups. We were probably only there for 1 day. And I went for one day again in 8th grade and all I remember is I felt sick on Star Tours.

I would be happy if we could go every two years. That's all. :) I don't think that's asking too much.

Wow, your kids sound very smart! And what neat school! My boys went to small private school until 6th grade and then transfered to public middle school. Big difference!

I've discovered that the older the kids get the harder it is. GPA's mean something if you plan on going to college. You really have to prioritize and for us, school and grades come first.

I think you will be excited about your east coast trip because you will have something to look forward to and plan. That's part of the fun for me!

Thank you. They are very smart and I am a very PROUD Mom. :) I feel very blessed to have our wonderful little country school. I went to a private school and the one my girls go to is very much like it (except for the lack of bible classes).

I think I will start the planning for our east coast trip as soon as we get back from this DL trip. Hopefully that will help me conquer the blues.

My DH also isn't a Disney vacation fan. DS and I have gone to DLR 3 times with friends, and this year DH finally agreed to a family-only trip - but only 2 days in the parks (I'm used to 3 - 4 days), and the trip was much more focused on avoiding crowds and lines than previous trips. We still had fun (at least DS and I did), and DH loved seeing DS's reactions to everything, but DH has no desire to ever go back.

It does make me a little sad, because it means that he's not as invested in saving for Disney vacations as I am, but at the same time, I have no problem taking DS to Disneyland by myself or with our friends, and letting DH off the hook. If he doesn't enjoy it, he doesn't have to come with us, but we still get to go. There are other things we do together as a family that we all enjoy, so it's not like we always take separate vacations.

But it also means that DS and I don't get to DLR as often as we'd like, because most of our vacation money goes towards things we do as a family. I work part time, and I put a little bit of money from my income towards DLR trips, but it does take a while to have enough to go. I'd love to stay onsite someday, but it's going to take years for me to earn enough to afford that! Maybe when DS graduates from High School... (he starts Kindergarten this fall!) :rotfl:

Every two years is very reasonable!
I LOVE the idea of a girls trip! I was thinking of doing mother daughter trips with my girls for something special (like turning 16). If your boys won't be happy you could always plan a mother son trip for another time or something else special for them!
I just like planning trips! Am I the only one that has years worth of Disney trips planned?? Whether they actually happen is a different story, but I have "trips" planned for every park and every occasion!

I would love to take just my boys to DLR! We would have a blast! Like I said before, my hubby is great, but he can only take so much. Actually, I could go on a girls trip and just throw my boys in anyway. I really love their company.:) My boys will off to college all too soon and I will miss them. I would still only need one regular room.

I just like having something to look forward to. A visit with from my AZ family, a weekend getaway with my hubby, DLR!!! I never plan trips to WDW. I despise flying so that just never enters the picture.

Well, you should be proud! It sounds like a very nice school too. That's not so easy to find sometimes. And you should definitely start planning your trip back east soon!
