I've heard that if you write a letter to your favourite Disney character they'll return a signed postcard of some sort, we live in Scotland and usually any flimsy or thin post from abroad arrives in a less-than-pristine state :worried: wanted to know if these mail boxes scattered around Main St. can actually be used while we're there. Would we need a stamp if it's staying in the park?

Thanks

You can put mail in the boxes, but it won't stay in the park - it goes through the postal system, so you will need to stamp it.

I'm not sure how this is going to help the mail you receive in Scotland be in better shape, though.

Ah, thank you. well with weather and such I've had postcards from Texas arrive with smudged ink and bent corners; if we do write a letter to any characters I'd want it to be in as best shape as possible.

I don't know if you will get a signed postcard from a character if you write them a letter, but I would drop off your letter at City Hall or Guest Relations in the park.

The mail boxes in the park are not for letters to the characters. Mainly, park guests are probably sending postcards or letters to friends and family. After park closing a castmember will empty the mail boxes and the accumulated mail will be taken to the post office.

No.

If you send a letter to a character through the mail, you will often get a signed photograph back, but it does need to go through the mail. Giving it to a CM won't get you anywhere.

In any case, I promise that the person receiving the letter doesn't care if it's in less than pristine condition.

Good to know. I was afraid if the OP put the letter in a mailbox at the MK without a stamp it would never make it to the character since it would go to the post office.

It definitely needs a stamp.

this actually clears up another question I had; last visit my daughter wanted to send a postcard to a friend in Texas but wasn't sure where to post it. I believe we can get stamps from the resort stores, like at saratoga springs where we were staying during our last visit. Maybe guest relations also have stamps?

Thanks so much for clearing this up! I'm very grateful and thanks for the concern :-)

If I'm reading this correctly, OP was going to use her return address at her resort in Orlando so the postcard would only have to come through the mail a short distance instead of coming across the pond. That might work if you have a really long stay, but I'm not sure how quickly they get those cards back out. I would say just roll the dice and send from home and see what happens.

There is a gift shop to the far left of the entrance of MK, it's adjacent to one of the mail boxes, 99% sure they sell stamps. Also if you have stamps the front desk of your resort should have an outgoing mail pile and will gladly mail your letters.

The front desk of your resort probably has some kind of mail "box" in the lobby where you put outgoing mail.

Guest Relations lines are usually long. I would try buying stamps in the hotel gift shop first.

I initially thought that might be the case as well, but after the follow-up, it looks like that isn't the case - she just wants the letter to still look nice when it gets to the character.

But it can take months to get a response ( if you get one at all.)

You can buy stamps in any gift shop. Just buy them at the same time that you buy the postcards.

Do they still stamp the postcards with the special stamped postmark anywhere before you mail it? I remember reading about that a long time ago, but I don't remember the details.
