What must not have been updated?
Any flight credits prior to May 28 are non expiring correct. Also, can flight credits be used to book a rental car through Southwest?

How do I find this screen?
It's in the check in process at the kiosk at the airport. When you select that you are going to check bags, it asks how many, then you have to hit update, the system does the calculation and gives you a total. It's not a new screen though, it's been there for at least the last 5 years. Unless this change is within the last 10 days since I flew on SW.

My husband and I had round trip flights from Milwaukee to Denver. These were our first since the new charges for checked baggage were in affect.

The MKE to DEN flight (full but not sold out), the onboard crew seemed ticked off that people were not loading into the plane fast enough, and announced several times that if we didn’t hurry up, we would have a late departure. I fully attribute this to less checked/more carryon luggage.

Leaving Denver was a whole different scenario.for every departing flight, we heard that you could gate check your carryon at no charge, and pick it up at the luggage carousel at the destination. And, they were adamant that each person was allowed 2 items, Ie a suitcase and 1 (and only 1) personal item. They emphasized that the 1 personal sized item, specifically called out purses, murses, blankets, pillows etc needed to be consolidated into 1 personal carryon, or you could not board the plane.

Now…while I saw several people get scanned in and enter the jet bridge with 2 personal items (Ie a piece of luggage and 2 personal items), they did not appear to stop anyone.

I also saw what appeared to be carryon bags that appeared to be larger than policy (no, I did not have a tape measure) that were allowed on board as well.

It's going to be interesting for a while as passengers do whatever they can to avoid paying the bag fees and employees at the gate try to manage how much stuff is getting crammed into the cabin.

How was your flight "full but not sold out"?

There where about 10 empty seats at the most.
 
I (just myself) and 3 kids (3,5,9) traveling - which would be the best way to get seats? The kids in a row and me the aisle seat across from them? The 9 is pretty mature and motherly towards the other 2 or should I book the middle and aisle on both sides of the same row with me in the aisle seat across from the other 2?

Well, you can't book any seats. Assuming you have the choice when you get on, and I would highly recommend buying EBCI for the entire party, I would go with you and two kids in one row and the other across the aisle. But you may have to be flexible depending on where that EBCI gets you.

Well, you can't book any seats. Assuming you have the choice when you get on, and I would highly recommend buying EBCI for the entire party, I would go with you and two kids in one row and the other across the aisle. But you may have to be flexible depending on where that EBCI gets you.

Assuming you're booking for flights currently open, you can't pick seats at this time, like @EACarlson says.

That said, you will get family boarding so you don't need EBCI. I'd sit 9 on the aisle across from me, with me, 5, and 3 together on the opposite side.

Assuming that family boarding happens. We see reports every busy season that family heavy destinations like MCO, have skipped family boarding.

Personally, I'd put myself next to the stranger so I'd put the kids in one row with the 3 year old closest to me. The other option would be put your 9 year old as the single and you sit on the aisle next to the younger kids, but then your 9 year old is sitting next to a stranger.

I would recommend starting a new thread as this is not going to be a SW specific question.
But to answer your question. I'm putting the two younger kids in a row with me on the aisle and the oldest one across the aisle from me. Assuming the oldest doesn't have any issues that would make that difficult.

If assigned seating is there for next June I wouldn't do the 2 and 2 option as that puts other passengers with your children and almost no one wants to have to deal with that. Especially if they are at the window now they would have kids to somehow deal with when they want to get up to go to the bathroom or get something from their overhead bin. The kids are still too young where their parent/guardian really needs to be responsible for them.

The most ideal situation though given you have 3 kids with their ages and only 1 adult IMO would be to have the two youngest sit with you and the 9 yr old sit by themselves like a PP mentioned. At the very least the two youngest would be with you. I've personally sat by myself as a kid but I was more like 11/12 age (back in the day when you could fly standby as in that was what your ticket was and we had to be separated on the plane as there were only so many seats left on the plane, that wasn't on SWA though).

I think if they did that it could cause confusion because they are talking about SWA and yet talking about a situation where the entire seating and boarding procedures could be different by the time they fly. Because of that I could see confusion with posters answering the questions. Generically airlines don't all have the same procedures with families, some block off seats in their system some don't and if they mention SWA then I could foresee a lot of posters answering with the present situations in mind. IMO they are just asking too early for this question since SWA hasn't announced stuff related to assigned seating, families, and procedures but they are asking on the appropriate thread without the need for creating a new one.

My thinking is that on any other US airline, there are already posters that have grappled with the same question. I'm sure we've talked about it before. Many of those posters aren't going to come into this thread. PP would get a wider range of thoughts and previous experiences. The SW part is irrelevant to their question. If they posted the question without mentioning a specific airline, it shouldn't cause any confusion. This is also assuming that PP is not planning on purchasing Basic.
