Post all SW questions concerns, etc. here...

United's lowest card, the Explorer is one free bag, to get 2 free bags you have to go up to the Quest with a $350 annual fee. Delta's cards are one free bag, American's cards are one free bag. United is the outlier in that either of the top two cards offer two free bags.
We fly United a lot and always get two free bags with the Explorer card.

As of last summer we got one free bag for myself, the cardholder, and my companion, my husband. That could’ve all changed by now since it seems like the airlines are making up rules by the minute lately.

That makes sense and exactly as it works with every major airline. What it came across as in your pp was that you each got two free bags with that card. With the Delta cards it's the cardholder and up to 8 on the same reservation, I think AA is cardholder plus up to three on the same reservation.

I’m looking forward to being able to fly SWA once the seat tiers are in place but before they actually start charging for the extra leg room since changing over all the planes will be an ongoing process.

In anticipation of the upcoming changes, I took time last night to roll all of our travel credits into one.

In the past (and a recently as last week) I was advised by a SW agent to call them as they could choose the credits so they could choose the 2 highest ones for me. I called last evening to do this and the agent asked if I would be cancelling the flight after booking and when I was honest and said yes, she refused to help me. I was disappointed but called back.

The next agent was not only willing to help me but also explained how I could actually choose the credits myself! So helpful and less stressful to do it myself!!

Initially I found a flight worth the cost of my 2 highest credits. (I had a total of 7 credits split between 2 confirmation numbers.)

I started booking the flight and when I got to the page that allowed me to enter the conf number for my travel credits, 2 of the lower priced credits appeared. What Joe showed me and I had never noticed before was that there was a small ‘x’ to the right of each credit amount. I clicked on the x and that credit disappeared and one of the other credits appeared in the list! I was able to x all of the lower priced credits until only the 2 highest ones appeared!

It was so nice to be able to do this myself and then by modifying that flight a few times, my 7 credits are now one large amount!

I wish I had taken a picture of the screen but didn’t. Hopefully this explanation helps someone else.

I have lots of credits. I've combined some but I'm hesitant to make the value too high because I'm afraid I'll end up losing some when the rules change (if I'm understanding what's happening correctly). Say I have a non-expiring $200 credit and use it to book a $150 flight after the change. That leaves $50 credit but now it'll expire in 1 year, right? Or will it somehow retain its no expiration status?

I thought any credits prior to the change later this month won't expire. ???

So do people think that Southwest's flying date on this will be January 27, that is, the date that on or after January 27th, flyers will pay for luggage, have assigned seats, etc.? The reason that I think so is that on their website, they list the next schedule drop as being for flying dates through January 26th. I don't see them putting out a schedule, letting people book, then say "Oh, yeah-now we've decided that you need assigned seats for what you booked." I'm asking because I had a vacation planned that would have me flying on January 27th, but frankly, I see the first day of implementing this as being a real zoo for flyers as everyone tries to sort things out and Southwest explains the changes to flyers who've been sleeping under a rock. So I'm wondering if I should change my plans to fly January 26th just to avoid the mess. Or should I chance it and leave my plans for the 27th, knowing I may regret it that day!

Flyers begin paying for bags on all flights booked on or after 5/28/25. Assigned seats will begin as soon as SW has a date on which they firmly believe all of the planes will have been modified for the extra leg room seats. It could be 1/27/26, it could be much later than that.
