Post # 5,000...A Few Well Deserved Thanks

To Pete - I want to thank you for providing this board for all of us. Yeah, yeah, I know Pete is a businessman and The DisBoards are just an offshoot of that, but he certainly doesn't have to provide this virtual community board that has turned into such a very real community. In fact, I suspect that the "community" boards here are probably quite a headache for Pete at times. That said, he's never gotten to the point I would have a long time ago and just scrapped the whole place, and he ought to know that most of us appreciate that.

I just wanted to clarify something. Pete wasn't a businessman when he started the boards, it was just a little hobby.
They grew fast and the business came along later because the boards became popular.
As for scrapping the community board we have talked about it at times but never very seriously. It would curl your hair to know what it cost to run the Community board in terms of servers and bandwidth but they are part of who we are.

Ya' know, I think somewhere back there in the recesses of my Disney-befuddled mind, I actually knew that and just forgot. If I remember correctly now, he even used to post on the board now and then. 'Course, back then, this was a comparitively small board (though it was pretty big, even then...just not compared to the masses that post here now).

It's really kind of amazing how far this entire site has come over the years. While there are certainly plenty of other Disney-themed information boards out there, I have yet to find one that has the unique combination of people, opinions, and very useful information that can be found here. Being in the tech industry, I imagine I could probably offer a guess as to the "cost" that you mentioned, and the fact that you guys have managed to keep this as a free site is really astounding.
