Well, it only took me most of 6 years to get to this point, but this is officially post #5,000 for me, and I wanted to use it to say a few things.
To Pete - I want to thank you for providing this board for all of us. Yeah, yeah, I know Pete is a businessman and The DisBoards are just an offshoot of that, but he certainly doesn't have to provide this virtual community board that has turned into such a very real community. In fact, I suspect that the "community" boards here are probably quite a headache for Pete at times. That said, he's never gotten to the point I would have a long time ago and just scrapped the whole place, and he ought to know that most of us appreciate that.
To the board admins - We've certainly had our differences over the years, and I'll readily admit that I've pushed the limits a bit (just a little, every now and then
), but I actually do realize you guys are mostly just trying to do a job that is under-appreciated, and sometimes your decisions are not going to be very popular with the community. I guess what I'm trying to say is, thanks for playing a part in making this a community that anyone would want to belong to for 5000+ posts and nearly 6 years.
To my fellow debate junkies - I've had an awful lot of fun with both the folks on my side of the aisle (the correct side, in other words
) and our opponents over there on the completely misnamed "right". Though it may not always seem like it, I actually do respect your passionate defense of your ideals (no matter how wrong-headed they may be
), and if I've offended, I hope you at least know that it was only in equally passionate defense of my own. I've truly enjoyed our give and take over the years, and look forward to more "battles" to come.
To my fellow "fluff" fans - Whether I've just had a bad day or just don't feel like getting into an argument over illegal immigration or the incompetance of certain political figures, you guys always seem to be around to provide a smile, a lump-in-the-throat, or an outright belly laugh just when I need it. I can't begin to count the times I've had to call DW over to the computer or e-mail her a link to a thread that just had me in stitches. I can't begin to thank you guys enough for that.
To the entire DIScommunity - Folks, I don't know what else to say. I've been around the Dis since just about the beginning. I've made a lot of friends (hey, Lauri! Hey FIKGang! (you know who you are)
), and lost a few (RIP,FIK), and wouldn't trade this board for any other out there! Thanks to all of you for being just a small part of my life these past 5 years or so, and for making this such a great place to be!
