Possible use for magic bands

DW and I were discussing our trip later this year, and naturally the subject of magic bands came up. We were thinking that another use for them would be to help reunite lost children with their parents. A Disney CM could scan the child's magic band and retrieve information as to where the child's family is staying, names, and potentially the cell phone numbers of the parents. Has this even been discussed before?

I have seen comments about this before. . . It seemed like it was a hit or miss experience and not an advertised feature of the bands. I know I saw at least one post where a family experienced helping a lost child and saw the CM use the bands to get parent info. It seemed like only certain CMs had the ability to look it up, though - which would still be effective as long as other CMs know who to call in for a lost child issue. I'm not sure if they're not promoting it so it doesn't give people a false sense of security, or maybe so all users don't feel like they're watched and traceable everywhere they go (even though we probably are

I'm not so concerned about Disney tracing me while I'm on their property. Heck, every time we surf the web there are traces being saved so that targeted advertisements show up on pages we visit. Giving certain cast members the ability to scan a MB and identify a crying, possibly uncooperative, child and being able to quickly contact the parents is a good thing in my humble opinion. Note that this is from a parent who got separated from a 3yo in a big crowd at MK many years ago.

That originally was going to be used as a major promotional thing concerning the Magic Bands. I have seen posts from people that say that they have indeed used them to quickly locate their lost child. However, Disney toned down the promoting of that ability when the folks with the tinfoil hats started to get all concerned about tracking. Doesn't mean that they don't still do it, they just don't talk about it anymore. As if you weren't tracked before, but, you know how some people are about stuff like that. Before you were tracked via camera with identifying pictures as to ones appearance, etc. No one gave that a second thought, but, heaven forbid that you are tracked as a faceless name on a computer screen. For some reason people feel that is much worse. Hard to imagine why!
