Do you mean purchase an upgrade, or to be "upgraded"? I would say there is less chance of the latter. If you wanted to purchase an upgrade, I guess it would only take one open cabin in the category you want, so it's not impossible. I would think that your chances of something being available would increase the earlier you arrive at the port, as I believe that these purchased upgrades are first come-first served.

Good luck!

dcbrown,
I am on your cruise also and am interested in changing rooms too but staying in the same category (6). I just don't care for the location of our room. What do you want to upgrade to?

I am in a cat 11 across from my sister who is in a cat 6. I am looking for a cat 6 and I will pay. I did call DCL and they only have cat 6 on deck 2. I think I would rather be on deck 6 than deck 2....any way, deck 6 is full right now unless someone decides not to go ....and who knows, the way the world is turning now.

There are no Cat 6 cabins on deck 2. They must have meant deck 5. These are the only decks Cat 6 cabins are located.

OK...what I had asked for was an outside room. I have an inside and was looking to upgrade to an outside....preferably w/ a verandah. So it probobly was not a cat 6....but still an upgrade from 11.

The outside rooms on deck 2 are category 9, with a big porthole window. These would be an upgrade from a category 11. Not only for the ocean view, but for the split bathroom, and a bit more space.

As you said, given the current situation in the world, it is likely there will be some cancellations, so you may be able to get what you're looking for.

This is purely a guess on my part, but I was thinking about upgrades recently. When we cruised we upgraded to a cat 3 that was handicap accesible. I thought that I read somewhere that you could only book a HA room if you actually needed one (maybe needing a note from a dr.)?? Could it be that even if a cruise is sold out that some of these rooms may be available therefore leaving openings to upgrade at the port when the HA rooms are made available to anyone? Again, this is just a pure guess on my part, hopefully someone may know the truth about this and can set me straight.

Oh BTW, get there early if you want to try to upgrade!
