Is it possible to "trade" all your points, your home resort, your contract, whatever you do? Last year we bought VWL, thinking that would be our favorite. Well, after our first trip to VWL and OKW, DH fell in love with OKW and wishes we'd bought OKW instead. He says he thinks of that as his second "home" and wishes we were paying dues there (no offense, VWL, I think it's partially because he's a golfer, LBV is there..) Does anyone know if that's ever done, where you trade home resorts?

I have heard that it is possible to trade properties. I think each person involved in the trade would be responsible for paying the $75 transfer fee plus perhaps some legal fees to get the titles transferred. This past summer, I actually posted a wish to trade our Vero Beach points for Hilton Head points. I received a reply from someone that was interested but wanted more Vero Beach points than what I had.

We own primarily OKW points. I have never really thought of trading but we love VWL too! How many points and what use year?

We've got 175 points and our use year is August. We didn't choose the use year, just took what was available.

When you say trade I am assuming you mean to transfer all of your ownership rights in VWL to another and that person transfer to you OKW. It can be done but there is cost involved. That would be a real estate transfer of two properties. Thus, the two parties would need to close and record both transfers and pay applicable closing costs (real estate transfer taxes, title insurance if purchased, fees for a closing company) which could run a few hundred dollars per transfer. If you have loans (mortgages) those would have to be paid off in full at the time of closing.

You would have to sell your points to each other. This is considered a Real Estate Transacations so you will have to go through the same thing that you have to go through when buying any real estate. there will be closing cost in addition to the transfers. (ie title search, transfer fee, recording fees, etc)

One thing you may consider is that there us more availability at OKW than other resorts, if it's your favorite your more likely to be able to get your room there than any other resort in the 7 month window.

Good luck.

Since OKW is generally available at 7 months, the closing costs aren't adding a lot of value in the availability window.

Now, closing costs may add value if you are looking to use OKW at peak times, or get a Grand Villa.

So, determine the value to you of the 7 month window. Determine the value of the hassle of finding a contract to trade and doing the legwork to trade. Then take the difference in maintenance fees on the size of your contract. How long will it take you to pay back the closing costs in savings on maintenance?
