I am not 100% sure how the points rental works. I get the main bit of it just not the details. We are going with friends, so 2 couples and 2-2 year olds. I think we would be happier in our own rooms as opposed to a suite, but maybe not? (any suggestions on that one?)
Thinking of renting points for a studio (this seems cheaper to me than the values, am I missing something?) My main question is would it be possible for both couples to rent points for the same place and have rooms close together?

TIA! sorry for all the ?s

That would be a request and could not be guaranteed in advance. If you are both renting from the same member, the request can easily be made - if you are renting from two (or more) members, each one will need to make the request on the reservation. The rooms would not be adjacent, but might be on the same floor or in the same building- depending on which resort.

You might want to consider a 2BR lock-off unit where each family would have a separate room, separate entrances, there would be a mini kitchen and full kitchen and the rooms would be next to each other and actually connecting (but the connecting door can always be kept locked if that's what you want).

In that case though, one family would have a studio and the other would have the (more costly) 1BR villa.

Good luck with your decision.

We rented points last year and vacationed with friends who rented points from someone else. We requested that the rooms be close together since we knew we would be spending a lot of time together. We ended up in adjoining rooms (they needed a 1 bedroom and we had a studio)! It worked out great, we still had separate rooms but I had access to their laundry facilities! Disney doesn't guarantee any room requests but I have found that they do their best to honor the requests!

And you would have to decide who gets the master bedroom.

Another consideration would be when do you plan to go? DVC reservations are usually made 11 months ahead of time, especially for those busy DVC times (low points, holidays, school's out, etc). You can't just make a reservation a couple of months ahead of time with DVC. Plus some resorts and room types get booked up earlier than others.

You have a point here as it might be an issue as to who gets the Master BR if you get a 2 BR. You would however have more room with the addition of the living room dining area and would have the full kitchen. It also depends on how much each couple values their privacy.

If you get a single person to rent to you they can ask that the rooms be close. They will probably not be next to each other but could be in the same building or general area.

We plan to go in November or beginning of Sept. if free dining comes out.

Honestly we could probably stay in the same room as them and be fine, but with each of us having a little one sometimes being seperate makes you feel better when your child is acting up or something. Like their kid screaming actually doesn't bother me, but they would feel bad and vice a versa.

If free dining comes out, you can't get it with a DVC points rental.

Oh, yeah, duh. If we go in Sept. we will probably stay at POP. The more I look at renting points the better it looks. I definitely want to do it at some point even if not this year.

If you are thinking about Nov, you need to be talking to a member now. Or you could be shut out of any DVC. The 7 month non-home booking time starts today.

Oh, yikes. That will probably be out for us then. We aren't even sure if our friends our coming or not. We were hoping to decide in a couple of weeks. I guess I will just have to wait and see.

There's a good chance something will be available, don't give up so easily but do make a back up plan.

You would likely still be able to get something from SSR or OKW at least, even if you are a month or two inside the 7-month window. BWV, VWL, and BCV will be more difficult. Keep that in mind when you make you decision on whether to go and started deciding where to go. And don't forget to take into account whether you will have a rental car or not, since SSR and OKW are not as easy as the others if you don't have a car.

Renting points can be a great deal....but there is a reason that its a great deal....

You will be dealing with a private party. Disney will not get involved if there is a dispute. While it is rare to get scammed, it has happened - this is a transaction with a stranger on the internet. Read the FAQs on the rent trade board.

Cancellation policies for DVC are very different than a CRO reservation. If you need to cancel it is possible you will be out all your money and even if the owner WANTED to do something to help, they may not be ABLE to do anything to help. If I cancel my own reservation (as an owner) late in my use year, I'm functionally SOL.

Because DVC is a timeshare it operates at nearly full capacity nearly all the time. That means things like room requests, or adding a last minute night, are not nearly as flexible as CRO rooms. Additionally, you generally can't plan last minute and get what you want - you need to be planning (generally) seven plus months in advance - or have a lot of flexibility in what you want. Many of us know a year plus out what we will be booking.

You don't get your room cleaned every day. Maybe a big deal, maybe not. You'll bring your own toiletries (i.e. a little Mickey shampoo and soap on day one).

Studios (except at OKW) are a queen bed and a full sofabed. That's it. You don't get two beds (except at OKW). No rollaways either.

This is a timeshare. Keep that in mind. Understand what you are renting - its a great deal, but understand WHY.

As easy for what???? :confused3  SSR and OKW both have their own dedicated buses. I have NEVER needed a car at either place and I have never had a problem with transportation.

Well you know that everything is so spread out at OKW and SSR you need a car to get to your room, the pool, resturants and to the bus stop to catch the park buses.

TOTALLY NOT TRUE!!!

One certainly can do SSR and OKW without a car but it is very advantageous to have one there. I'd never do either resort without one. If I didn't have a car I would stay at one of the other resorts if at all possible. AKV will be somewhat similar other than ? for the AK park.

TOTALLY NOT TRUE!!!

I totally agree! The only time we use the rental car if we get one is to go off property to the grocery store or character warehouse and sometimes to eat at Jungle Jims or The Melting Pot.

Oh jeez, don't get so defensive about THIS now. I am simply saying that staying at OKW and SSR is better if you have a car, everyone touts how great it is to be able to park close to your unit at SSR and OKW. No you don't need it, but checking in and out is not as easy if you don't have a car. And I said nothing about the internal WDW transportation, that is fine at all the DVCs.

I prefer the SSR buses over all of the transportation. When we stayed at BWV there was only one stop but we also stopped at the Swan and Dolphin and a long time to get to MK and AK.

Staying at BC is no better...so unless you live and breathe Epcot and MGM those two have issues that can outweigh the positives.

I also like VWL for MK and Ep - I will drive to AK from there.
