Possible New Park?

3 out of the current Parks on Property are currently underutilized, so it's highly doubtful. Plus, TWDC isn't about to absorb another 3000-8000 additional employees and their liabilities. And that would be after dropping 3-5 billion of CapEx into WDW to build the 5th Gate.

We know that's not going to happen - especially as they look to re-coup their 2 billion NextGen investment

Not only would they not want the liability of the employees and extended benefit costs...
They can't FIND them...

The lack of dependable labor at the minimum wage (unlivable) rates has been a problem for wdw for a long time. Their workforce rolls over at a staggering rate.

They can't have 35,000 college programmers...they'd run the place into chaos...

...And the distilleries and pharmaceutical companies would never keep up supplies

And you are correct to do so...

Pretty much every labor study ever conducted shows a severe drop in worker efficiency after they pass 35 hours a week.

So the longer you're there - you're "just there"
But your boss is infected with the sickness of greed

I also saw a report that said the US is the only (not sure of the right word to use here) MAJOR (?) country that does not have mandatory vacation time for workers. And it's also the country with the least given.

There's a great chart that I used to hang on my office wall that maps that very thing...
I'll see if I can find it and post it

I just met a couple from Australia when I was in Las Vegas, and they were in the middle of a month-long vacation. According to them, that's pretty average for them and it's the same way for a lot of European countries as well. Some countries it's mandatory that you take that vacation time because it affects the national healthcare they receive and they penalize you if you don't take it! Unheard of in good old US of A where you barely get a week or two, and your boss begrudgingly "lets" you take it.

It was job dependant but yeah here in the UK, companies give people 28 days a year plus public holidays as time off and in the example of my company, they push us to take it because we're going to get paid if we don't take it

When each of the 4 parks has several million more people coming each year, then we can talk. Until then, I'm not expecting much.

They could do a smaller premium park, I just don't see that being as likely as it used to be when they can add paid experiences to existing parks. (paid Frozen parties are cheaper then new Parks)

Let me throw another DLR gate into the rumor mill. I heard a rumor of using the Toy Story parking lot area across from the convention area as the site for a third DLR gate.

I did...see a vague reference or two in business journals/newspapers about a Disneyland expansion.

With the boom they are currently having...it's not completey ridiculous.

Though I would say exclusive/boutique might be the way to go there.

Wdw on the other hand...is and has suffered from park cannibalization and hasn't had a significant upswing in visitors for years...it's all inflation numbers. Not enough to get the bumps to move off the log.

Sadly - only Comcast/universal is gonna make any meaningful change happen now - they are the wdw fans best friends right now.

I like the idea of a premium park over at Disneyland Resort. It shouldn't greatly effect the numbers at either of the existing parks. One thing I'm wondering is with the high mix of locales to long distance travelers is the demand there? I see it being huge among the Disneyland faithful for three years and then getting bored with it. Walt Disney World has that perpetual stream of guests who are willing to pay for "exclusive meet and greets." Does Disneyland?

Though, if I'm being completely honest they'll probably just focus on Hotel expansion for now. (especially DVC) It's less risky and with the massive build up of rooms in the Resort District, they could definitely capitalize on that.

The rumors I've heard point to a Marvel mini land coming to DCA rather than a third gate. Supposedly the expansion would go into the parking lot.

Hey I agree with you here. I don't think Disneyland does have the need for a third park because of the locals. I do see expansion happening there though.

I think DVC expansion is the only hotel expansion they are focused on.

Yeah, a R'nR type ride is what I've seen. That should make for an impressive part of the park.

Maybe there is not a short term financial reason to build a 5th park, but in the last 5 years crowds have gotten out of control. There used to be slow times at WDW, but not anymore. Yet Disney still managed to make money during those slow times. A 5th park would at least thin out the crowds and make the time spent there more enjoyable for everyone. And if the new park were geared to a new demographic, (ie a thrill oriented park) it could increase attendance much more than DAK did. I don't think this will happen, because like many have said, they don't believe a 5th park will help the bottom line, which is all that matters to them. Just a different way to look at it, and a philosophy I personally would work over a long period of time.

But the same thing can be achieved by putting more rides in the existing parks. Putting more rides in DHS, AK and Epcot, gives people in those parks more to do. Which means it pulling people from other lines and out of walkways. Plus, it could reduce the number of people going to MK by making the other parks more desirable.

Lets get all the work in The current Parks and Disney Springs done first. Magic Kingdom is fine. Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom are having hefty expansions. After that i feel its only Epcot future world that needs some serious work. Then give it a few years then maybe look at other parks

MK is fine? That's the most crowded park of all. While it doesn't necessarily look like it needs more rides it could. But with that said they need to focus on DHS and Epcot.
