I've been laid off since august. I had a great phone interview yesterday. The hiring manager said that depending on when the person started, they may go to the next conference. I didn't think much about it at the time. Later I went to their website to see where the conference is.

It's at the WDW Swan!!!! OMG I have to get this job!

This morning they called to set up the next round of interviews for Wednesday. They'll take a 1/2 day. And then by the end of next week they hope to decide.

I am so excited. I'm already looking at rates to see about going a few days earlier. Of course I would have to stay at a Value and then switch over to the Swan. The conference rates are $239 a night at the Swan which I couldn't afford. The conference kickoff starts on a Sunday night so I am thinking that I could arrive on Friday.

I know - I am getting ahead of myself. But just think - free deluxe hotel for most of my trip, free airfare, and free food for a good majority of the trip.

Special events at night include a beach party on Sunday night at the Swan. And then one night they are going to the dark side:

Universal Studios Amityville Set Party
6:30 – 10:30 p.m.

Arrive Hollywood style with a red carpet welcome as you go beyond the screen and Ride the Movies® at Universal Studios®, the number one movie studio theme park in the world. At this real working motion picture studio, an incredible array of rides, shows, movie sets and attractions put you right into your favorite scenes from your favorite movies. As you arrive at the special, after-hours private entrance, you will enjoy live entertainment, an array of food & beverages, games, and rides making it a night that you will never forget!

Wish me luck!

Best of luck with the job interview. Here's hoping you get both the job and the conference trip to Disney. Good luck.

Thanks! I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. But it sure is exciting to think about.

Best of luck to you. NC person - sounds like you may have been an IBM layoff. I am too. August 2006 - layoff from IBM in NY.

Best of luck to you in your job search.

IBM here in my NY area does not have a good moral. More layoffs are looming even with the stock now at $102 per share.

You will love the Swan. If you do POP - watch the hours of the WDW transport system. You may have to taxi it back to Pop from the Swan - about $15.

pooh:

For the actual conference dates (3 nights) I would stay at the Swan. I would only stay at a value on the days leading up to the conference (the days that I would be paying for myself). Then I would transfer over.

I was actually not an IBM layoff although there are a lot of those around here. I was working for a small local company. I hated it anyway and the benefits were horrible. So it wasn't a big loss. The new job is with a much larger company locally. They are in the computer field though. I have a computer skill that they really want. And if they hire me they will send me to administrator training for it. I think the training is in California.

Good luck! New job, trip to disney to celebrate, staying at the Swan... what more could a person want? Really hope that you get the job.
Stay positive!

Pooh2001 - Sorry to hear about the layoff. DH just got laid off also along with a lot of people from NC. They are outsourcing so much. We are hopeful he will be able to find something here but it is hard to think about the spring trip. Last time this happened they wanted him to take a job in NY but we like MN :)
