Possible good news for offsiters and FP+

I read this exact same thing from Disney's website and proceeded to look around the Downtown Disney info page to see where they could be purchased but didn't have much luck. Has anyone sucessfully purchased MagicBands (as an offsite guest)? If so, would you mind sharing where, what colors were available and how much? TIA!

(P.S. Yes, I understand I don't NEED them; already have my tickets from OTC, but the kids want the bands because they've seen them on the commercials. Plus, I think they might actually be eaiser for a 5 & 7 yo to keep up with instead of a card.)

I'm fairly certain you can get them at World of Disney. They were very ubiquitous at most of the park shops as well, so worst case is you need to go into a park first.

We picked up the magic bands at the Pin Trader's Shop in Downtown Disney the night before we went into the Parks. They had the full assortment of colors: red, blue, green, pink, yellow, orange, and gray. The process for linking our tickets to My Disney Experience to the MagicBands was painless. Please let me know of you have any other questions.

Excellent, just what I wanted to hear! Thank you so much!

One more question, if you don't mind; how much were they?

Yes, $12.95. They also have sleeves and little knick-nacks that you can get, for an extra charge, to add onto the bands.

Thank you so much! My kids will be so happy that they can get their own MagicBand. Personally, I think it's well worth $12.95 per child just to not have them be upset for six days that they don't have one. :-)

Can you purchase them from Disney and have them mailed to you?

As an offsite guest my coworker might want these-they are set up with FP+ etc.

Or do they have to purchase when they get there? And is that better for some reason? 5 Day Hoppers.

I don't know of any option to purchase them online at this time.

In person, they will help activate them.

I agree. Our DS (12) looked at it as a memento of the trip.

When we were in WDW, we tried to buy a magic band for one of our friends back home. At least as of the time of our trip (April 2014), you needed to purchase the magic band in person and you could only buy the magic band if you already had a ticket purchased and ready to link to the band.

I see, thanks-was telling them to be sure and order them ahead of time. I will fill them in. I wonder why it matters? They have linked tickets and FP+ on them.

Probably because they just aren't set up for people to be able to purchase them online yet. :) Right now MagicBand ordering is linked in to resort reservations, not tickets/FP+.

Also what good are they?

You can enter the gate

Have your FP+ on them

Can you attach a c card and charge?

Will the phone app change the band if you change a FP+ on the fly?

Can you attach the Photo professional shots to them?

Anything else?

That makes perfect sense, this beast had to start rolling out somewhere.

We were debating about this. One possibility is that they do not have the ability to register the MB to MDE and FP+ online yet. Another possibility (pure speculation) is that they are trying to avoid creating a secondary market for MB, where they are selling for $50 on Ebay. But who knows?

Yes.

Have your FP+ on them

Yes. Well, technically, you _access_ your FP+ with them. There is nothing _on_ them.

Can you attach a c card and charge?

Not at this time, but I expect that feature to come soon.

There is nothing ON the band other than the band's ID number. Everything is in your MDX profile. The band is just a key, just like the RFID ticket. In fact, even after you get the band, you can continue to use the ticket as well. Both will work.

Can you attach the Photo professional shots to them?

You can use it in place of a Photopass card with the photographers. They will automatically be associated with your account.

Anything else?

There are still the yet-to-come "enhanced experiences" that take advantage of the active transmitter. I haven't seen any yet. I've only heard of the automatic appearance of Test Track (I think) ride photos on your account because it sensed your band. Didn't ride it this past trip, so don't know for sure.

Thanks so much, very helpful. ::yes::
