Possible drowning at Discovery Cove

A tragedy for sure - but at least on this occassion it cannot be directly attributed to the park or staff themselves.
From the way I read it the life guards saw she was in distress and acted quickly.

:(

its not actually confirmed she died yet though...

Let's hope she's not.

I don't mean to change the subject of a sad (possible) loss of life but how weird is the USA way of writing a news story?...

The attraction touts its exclusivity -- just 1,000 guests at a time visit "this 30-acre retreat," its Web site said. The site describes the park as a "all-inclusive tropical vacation designed to fit into one unforgettable day."

How does this add to the story? It even gives ticket prices, it's almost like a attaching a little advert on the end of the story. Very bizarre!

Have not herd anything on the news here about a drowning. But on the question of DC, we where ther 8th July, and my DW had a bit of trouble at DC in the lazy river, she was unable to get back at a waterfall to get out ,and was starting to panic, there was a life guard sat there watching her, and a guy standing beside her, who was waiting on one of his family coming round, jumped in and helped my DW get out. I had read reports of this happening on other occassions, so i would be very wary of anyone in your party who is a bit wary or panics if they get into a bit of difficulty.
We reported it and they said the lifeguard did not think she was in any trouble in the water, fortunatley the guy who helped her out was sat a few loungers away from us, and my DW said they should go talk to him, which they did.

Yes very "unforgettable" for that poor lady, yes i agree that even bad publicity is publicity. I must admit although there are signs about how deep the lazy river is in parts i don't think it really had to be made that deep and with no rings to float on it can be a bit daunting. I was confident i would be ok but my swim shoe came loose and i then panicked in the deep part and my husband rescued me, from there on i used a tubey float thingy as it knocked my confidence but they were few and far between. Let's hope the lady is ok.

That is sad news. It was a Heart Attack so there's nothing more that Discovery Cove staff could have done and it shouldn't reflect badly on them.
Am I right in thinking there are life vests that weaker swimmers can use if needed?
