Not sure if any of this is true, so don't put it in stone, but another forum is saying that as of Oct. 2008 Garden Grill will no longer serve a lunch and as of Jan, 2009 Liberty tree tavern will no longer serve character meals.

Garden Grill will continue Character dinners and LTT will have no characters at all.

According to the original poster, they got this from a reliable source, but like I said, this may just be a rumor.

The moderators keep closing threads about this because none of it can be proven. I don't know any more than that!

Don't know about the LTT but I have a LUNCH ressie at the Garden Grill on Oct. 15th so I know they are at least continuing with lunch until then.

Hope this helps...

Right now the mods are closing these threads and have been asking that it's kept to the rumor board.

I do understand that this is just a rumor, and no one really knows just yet, but why are they locking threads on this? I mean, its not a hot topic issue is it? I don't understand why they would'nt want people discussing this rumor, just treat it like any other rumor.:confused3

I am not sure, unless they're trying to separate all rumors to only be on the rumor board?

I called Disney dining this morning to change my Christmas lunch reservation to a breakfast time and was told that they had an email this morning stating that the Garden Grill will no longer be serving breakfast or lunch as of some date in Oct. I told her I just made a lunch reservation yesterday and she said they only found out this morning and that everyone with reserrvations after that would be notified about the change.

Sorry I don't remember the exact date that she said breakfast and lunch ends. After that it will be dinners only.

There is a rumor board and all rumors are being kept to the rumor board.

This thread is being moved to the Rumor Board form the Dining Board. Please feel free to bring all rumors there.

Once there is official confirmation posted on the Disney website, or confirmed here on the DIS, it will be opened again on the Restaurant Board.

You're right! :) I just called and they told me that effective October 5, no more characters at GG lunch!

Can't help but think something is up new for that area when guests are being told GG is not available most of the day for meals, in addition to apparently having ongoing issues with the revolving/non-revolving floor.

Is there going to be no lunch completely? The CM I spoke with made it sound as if there would be lunch, but the characters just wouldn't be there.

I called because I had lunch reservations on 12-2, and I was told that I needed to reschedule as they were not going to have lunch anymore, I had to reschedule for dinner. If you have reservations for after 10-5, I would call now!:thumbsup2

Just taking from another post here on the rumors board:
the CM told me also that as of 10-5 there will be no lunch served, and I had to reschedule my lunch to a dinner!
I guess we will know for sure when others are told open for breakfast and lunch character-less, or not open during those meals at all.
:confused3

I was told by Disney Dining when I called yesterday that there was no breakfast or lunch. There was no mention that of characters at all.

Does anyone have an email or phone number of someone to contact to express our opinions about this?

I'm sure I can call the Disney dining number but I'd rather not. It's hard for me to even talk about this without getting REALLY angry so I'd hate to take it out on those answering the phones since I know they had nothing to do with this decision.

I know Disney has to make changes from time to time and do what's best for business but I don't think that waiting 3 months to make the change would really hurt business that much. They should have waited until Jan. to stop lunch at the Garden Grill so it would not interfere with those who already have ADR's.

As I posted on another thread, what are we supposed to tell our kids? How do we explain to them why they will not get to have lunch with Mickey? My kids have never been to WDW before and this was going to be one of the highlights of the trip. They will be so heartbroken. Do I just tell them the truth, "Disney cares more about making some extra money than they do about you." Of course I would never say that but that's the way it seems to me.

I'm sure that there will not be enough openings this close to October for all of those with lunch ADR's to switch them to dinner so there will be some that will not get to dine with Mickey at all. We are a family of 6 so it will cost us to much to switch to dinner. This was going to be our only character meal with the main characters and I'm sure there are others who are in the same boat.

I'm sure that even kids who have been to GG before are still looking forward to doing it again. I just don't understand how anyone (esp Disney) can hurt so many kids like this. So much for Disney magic... None for me anymore.

Thanks for letting me vent

Ghostlady.....In your defense, I could understand why you would be upset and I can see why it would have been a good idea to wait until those who already have ADR's be able to have their meal and then just stop taking ADR's so no one would be dissappointed, but.....

Try to understand that when you made your ADR, the CM told you that characters were subject to change. Disney has the right to do whatever they want with their restaurants.

Since your child wants to meet Mickey, I would get on the phone and try to change the ADR to dinner as soon as possible before all the slots get booked. If you can't get it, then meet Mickey somewhere else. He is easy to find.

He's available at Chef Mickeys and Tusker house breakfast if you want to do a character meal. You can also meet him in the Judge's tent in toontown fair at MK, and at several other places.

There's no reason why your child should be dissappointed when he's available at many other locations.

It is unfortunate that many families probably won't get to dine at Garden Grill, but I'm sure disney dining can find you another ADR. After all, there are so many restaurants to choose from. Good luck!

Yes, I knew that the characters were subject to change but I was NOT told that there could be a possibility of my entire meal being canceled. That's a little different from getting to the restaurant and finding out that Chip or Dale couldn't make it that day.

I know that Disney can do whatever they want but that doesn't mean that what they are doing is the right thing to do. Not that they ever would, but technically they could just decide to close the Magic Kingdom down for good after guests have already purchased their tickets but I'm sure there would be a lot of unhappy ppl calling them to complain. Those ppl could just go to one of the other parks but I'm sure it wouldn't be the same and for us going to another restaurant wouldn't be the same either. This is something we were really looking forward to so now some of the magic is gone for us.

Disney has every right to cancel lunch at the GG but I ALSO have every right to be upset about it.

If I could switch my ressie to dinner, I would but it would cost us an extra $50.00(including tip) to do so and we just don't have that in our budget.

We already have our schedule planned so we are not able to switch to a breakfast. That's why we reserved lunch in the first place.

As far as I can tell, there are no other character lunches that include the main Disney characters. If I'm wrong about this, please let me know.

I'm sure we will still see Mickey at other locations but I doubt it will be the same as dining with him and the others. If it was, ppl wouldn't pay so much to have the character meals.

I'm not sure if you have children but for me, as a mother, there's nothing worse than seeing my kids be so disappointed. There are many disappointments in life and they will find that out soon enough but it shouldn't happen in a place that is supposed to be so magical for kids just so a few ppl can make a few extra dollars.

If new info is brought to light and I find out that there is a good reason for this (other than money) I might change my mind but as of now, I can't think of even one possible reason for them to do this without 180 day notice.

I'm sure there are going to be countless numbers of ppl who all have lunch ressies between Oct. 5th and Dec 31st that are all going to be trying to change their ADR's so many ppl won't be able to. If they would have given 180 day notice then all of us would have had the same chance to make our ressies but now we are all at a disadvantage because most of the spots are already taken by those who did have 180 days to make them. Why should a large group of quests who did take the time to make their ADR's early now be left with very little if any choice of restaurants or times because they didn't give us notice? They still haven't even made an official announcement and/or notified those of us who have the ADR's.

So I'm sorry if you think that I am overreacting but this is a once in a lifetime trip for us and I have spent months trying to plan (and even longer saving for) the best possible vacation for my kids so it's pretty upsetting to find out that one of the highlights of our trip is not going to happen.

Ghostlady, your kids likely will not make a big deal about this if you don't. Try to move things around to work in a breakfast at Chef Mickey's or Tusker House or O'Hana (honestly, your schedule shouldn't be so fixed at this point that you can't make a change, or just don't worry about it and save the dollars.

The other thing I thought about shifting schedules is if you schedule the last breakfast seating then it's almost lunch time anyway. We did that at Kona one day - we wanted the breakfast menu but wanted it for lunch.

now, if only the rumour was the garden grill was closing for good...then i'd be happy. hate that place
