Possible Changes at LeCellier

The year rules are based on your check in date so you will definitely have 2011 rules. Typically they don't start refurbs during the crazy busy holiday season but tons of refurbs start in the first few days of Jan.

That's what I thought. It is just that the previous poster said that 2010 rules were in effect until 11-Jan (or thereabout) and I am checking in before that.

There is a goofy thing about changing over. I believe if you check in on December 31st, you will be able to use the old plan for 10 days, up through January 11th. Previously it hasn't made much of a difference, with the exception of the big change to the dining plan in 2008, as the plans have stayed somewhat similar from year to year. I would guess that checking in after January 1 you are subject to the new rules for the dining plan.

I think that Pumbaa's point was that with Disney always doing things a little differently, it's not safe to assume anything when it comes to Disney policy. Even my assumption that they will have a hard date after January 1 for changing it to signature status is only an assumption at this point.

That's why this remains on the News and Rumor board. Until there is an announcement from Disney, it's all just speculation on our part as to how this changeover will work.

it could be that le cellier closed for rehab jan3 and reopens as signature later in the month

loving the rumor mill though? hmmm, maybe if i ask my neighbor to check with her sister who knows someone at espn that has a friend at disney, they might know! :rotfl2::lmao:

Looking forward to the official Disney info and how close some of these rumors are

love it! :yay:

That makes sense - thanks.

One of the previous posters in this thread said Le Cellier would be closed for renovations. A signature restaurant would have fewer tables. It's not confirmed if the LC will close for renovations, when it would close or for how long.

Previously your resort rate was the rate in effect on the day you checked in. That would suggest your dining rate (and benefits) would likewise be based on the date you checked in. How many guests would start a 10 day trip on 12/31, paying holiday rates for their entire trip? Wouldn't most guests split their stay?

We don't know what Disney will do if the plan changes from 2010-2011. We know Disney can vary the room rate during the course of your stay. There isn't any reason why Disney can't vary the dining package rates (and terms) during the course of your stay.

The point is the Yachtsman isn't the equivalent of steakhouses like Peter Lugar, the Palm or even Shula's.

I agree completely. I had the ribeye two nights ago at the Yachtsman and it was by no means even close to prime quality. Lots of gristle and a relatively thin cut to boot. Have literally has better beef at chain places!

I know some posters know somebody who knows somebody who works there and said this is a go, but I talked to a CM at Disney Dining today who said, yes she has heard the rumor (re: LeCellier to Signature), but only from guests calling to inquire. They have been given no information on this at all. Does that mean they are the last to know or not allowed to talk about it or, maybe, this crazy idea is really just a rumor?

Based on previous experience, this one.

Actually a poster's daughter works at LC and told us the employees were told. A couple of other posters confimred that. Not the same as the " I know someone who knows someone who knows someone who said....

The CMs on the phone shouldn't be commenting on rumors. Disney hasn't made an official announcement. The CMs have nothing to say, other then repeating what other callers tell them.

Disney could change their mind (but I don't they will). A restaurant that books rapidly is underpriced.

Sorry, I disagree. I don't know these people--and we all know that anyone can say anything about who they are and who they know . . .

Agreed . . . but I would extend that to ALL CMs, including those at the restaurant.

Sounds like you're upset that Le Celier is becoming a Signature.

the diff is until it is official, cm taking reervations and booking won't know anything

the restaurant has chosen to tell their employees about a change that will be impacting them. And those emplyees have chosen to share with a few thousand of their closest friends :yay:

:rotfl: Actually, no. I could care less. I guess maybe the "snark-casim" on the boards lately got to me and I gave some back??? :confused3 We are lucky enough to live in an area with plenty of choices for a great steak dinner and we like to try things we can't find at home, so LeCellier has never appealed to us and we've never been. My DH wants to try it our next trip, just to "check it off the list", and I love pretzal bread so, we have a mid-Nov ADR for dinner and this rumor caught my eye. Personally, I think it's a bad move, at least if they require "Signature restaurant attire" too. It makes a little sense at Bistro De Paris, as you could argue "dressing up" is part of the theming-after all it is Paris. But we're talking Canada at a theme park for pete's sake. . . I'm from Michigan and travel frequently to Canada, have Canadian friends and family-great, great people. And they "match" the general feel at Epcot's Canada... cool and laid back, adventerous. Not fussy, fancy and dressed up. We'll see...

(IMHO, a better plan would simply be to require 2TS credits and raise the prices some . . . a new class of restaurant: "Character dining", "dinner show", "signature", and "we're gonna do this 'cause this restaurant is soooo popular that we can" (smile) )

"Signature Attire" quite honestly is a myth.

Exactly. A large percent of park attire would be perfectly appropriate at any of the signatures. Don't wear a bathing suit or shirt with offensive print, leave the torn clothing and muscle shirts at home, and take off your hat. Otherwise your attire falls well within what is permitted.

It's one thing to say information is unreliable because it's "indirect". I heard from someone who heard from someone...It's another thing to say information is unrelaible because a poster lied when she said her daughter works at LC and the staff was told. I'm sure some posters make up stuff.

You first suggested the information was "indirect". You now wonder if a poster made stuff up.

A CM who posts what they were told is reorting more then a rumor. Disney could reverse the decision. I have no idea if the staff was told to keep this information to themselves. Disney must know someone "will spill the beans".

Signature restaurant attire is a thing of the past. The dining code for signature restaurants in the resorts:
Men: Dress slacks, jeans, trousers, or dress shorts, short- or long-sleeved shirt with a
collar or t-shirt required. Jackets are optional.
Ladies: Jeans, skirt, or dress shorts with blouse, sweater or t-shirt, or a dress required.
Not permitted: tank tops, swimsuits or swimsuit cover-ups, hats for gentlemen, cut offs,
or torn clothing of any kind.

A dress code that allows jeans and t-shirts is pretty liberal. There isn't any dress code for signature restaurants in the parks. I guess who have the normal shoes are required.

Really????
I am sorry if you thought I was calling someone a liar . . . I certainly did not. I was not even referring to a specific post or poster, just the rumor in general. And . . I tried to lighten things up a bit with the Signature Attire comments, clearly I failed.

I agree as well. I just completed our May 2010 trip report (http://wijkowskisvisitflorida2010.blogspot.com/) and I went into specifics about the drop in quality at Yachtsman. We ate at Yachtsman in years past and the food was very good. This food at Yachtsman this trip was not good at all and not worth the price.

Well guys....I'm back from a quick Disney trip to visit my daughter and find my thread has gone crazy while I was gone! :lmao:

For anyone who thinks I'm making this stuff up - sorry to disappoint you - the restaurant is going signature in January 2011 and from what my daughter said while we were down there, TPTB are actually contemplating leaving some of the offerings the same but jacking up the price! I honestly think they're making a big mistake if they don't at least revamp the menu and justify the signature dining status!

The only unknown at this point is whether the restaurant will close for a refurb and/or for how long. A rather large budget has been mentioned so I think it will be more than just removing tables, but I also can't imagine them closing it for any length of time.

I did ask my daughter if it was okay to share this information before my initial post, and she said all staff were notified of the coming change and weren't told to keep it a secret (hardly possible!).
