Possible Additions/Changes to WDW Transportation

I did have a ME bus driver once who got lost and drove past the entrance to Coronado Springs twice before deciding to give up and go to the All-Stars before dropping off the CS people. I was getting pretty steamed.

Bus driver: Darn that Garmin!

I haven't had a chance to read through all of the info here, but by my reasoning it's pretty simple why we don't have a monorail operating throughout the complex. Disney isn't lucky enough to have downtime anymore. In order for the monorail system to replace the bus system currently used it means that the monorail must operate at 100% at all times. Otherwise, Disney still has to retain buses and drivers for emergency situations. We all know the monorail isn't operational 100% of the time, thus Disney will be forced into maintaining a bus fleet that can service all of WDW and must have drivers to operate the buses. Economically the monorail regardless of cost per mile is the best longterm mode of transportation Disney has, but it's not a system they can rely on for 100%.

I should add though that the free transport is absolutely the number 1 selling point to staying on site for me. If they add cost to that or make the service less appealing in any way then we and many others will just stay off-site, probably at one of Universals now increasingly attractive selection of hotels.

This.

If I had to pay for transport to the resort, I might as well just get a rental car. And if I have a rental car, I'm probably just going to stay offsite instead of onsite, and I'm probably going to spend a couple days at Universal during my trip instead of spending all my days (and all my money) at Disney.

Every trip we have stayed offsite, we split our days between Disney and US. If we stay onsite at Disney, we don't do anything but Disney. I'm sure we're not alone, and Disney has to realize that, too.

Ultimately, I think you will still see free transport to the resort from MCO. With some sort of expedited service at an upcharge.

I think the biggest benefit of DME is the luggage transfer. Bag Claim at MCO almost always takes forever on my non disney trips to that airport(until I had priority through my airline). So if you are waiting for your bags, while another grabs your rental car......you may very well have the equivalent wait in line at DME.

For me, my vacation starts as soon as I get on the plane at my home airport. I don't want to drive anything, worry about directions or any of that stuff. For me DME checks that box for me.
Might I pay a premium to retain the luggage portion and a more speedy transport to the resort? I might.

Enter the "Disney Driving Plan".......... You can chose from several different packages for travel--- DDrP, DrP, and the VDrP-- where you get a ride to the park but have to drive other people back.

But you have to reserve it 6 months in advance!

Whomever told you that on the Dis is completely and utterly wrong. Uber has been allowed on Disney property since it launched in Orlando two years ago. You'll see a report every now and then about a security guard on a power trip saying the Uber driver isn't allowed to pick someone up at a particular resort. But in about 30 rides in Uber the last couple of years, I've never once had issues with drivers coming or going from Disney parks and resorts.

A lot of the security guards at the Disney resorts now know the Uber drivers and greet them by name. We've stopped renting a car at Disney because Uber is just so much easier, and cheaper!
Über was not allowed at the airport for pick ups, something to do with the taxes that bonded taxi drivers pay, I am not sure if this has changed recently, however that was the case in late 2015

The airport isn't Disney property. I was talking strictly about Disney property.

I meant that maybe the poster was confused or mixing up the info, that maybe they misunderstood-uber not allowed at airport confused with uber not allowed in Disney property.

So I had the survey for 7 questions then they said I don't match their profile. I think it's interesting that an urban dweller from a large mid-Atlantic city who takes a plane and DME doesn't fit their profile. I'd think that having a survey to get different views would make more sense.

First, I would never take anything unregulated like Uber or Lyft. I simply don't trust getting in a car with whomever.

Second, the solution for people who hate transit is to stay in the Epcot resort area, which is in walking distance of two parks. Epcot has the monorail system, which links to Magic Kingdom. Unless you're going to Animal Kingdom, a water park, Disney Springs, or some other area, you can avoid buses and other modes of transit altogether.

Chances are, Disney already has data from people like you. Once they reach a certain number for a defined population in a representative sample survey, there's really nothing to be gained by gathering more data.
