Positive vibes..

Thanks CAnn for starting this thread. I'm trying to be little more positive this year.......

Like a PP, I'm from Pittsburgh, so the news about the orphans from Haiti is so encouraging in the face of all that tragedy.

I finally got DH to sit down and give his opinions on our summer vacation this year - we're heading out to Mt. Rushmore, one of the many places on my bucket list. Our boys are 18 and 20, so we don't have too many years left when they'll be travelling with us. Made our hotel res. over the weekend, and today I'm going to book the flights. This is when I can start getting excited because now it's REAL.:thumbsup2

I have another positive: we had a rough week car-wise earlier this month. Our boys share a car, and on a Tues. DS18 was driving, slid on some ice as he was turning and slid sideways into the curb. Luckily he wasn't hurt and the car didn't look bad from the outside, but he messed up the suspension, tie rod, steering, and I don't know what else. $$$

Friday of that same week, DS20 used my car to drive me to the bus stop since he had to be at work later that afternoon and needed a car (since the boys' car was in the shop waiting for the insurance adjuster from DS18's accident). On the way home, he slid off the road and into a road sign (one of those yellow diamond-shaped signs). Once again, we were very lucky that he wasn't hurt - the road sign stopped him before he hit the telephone pole, and the damage to my car is mostly cosmetic.

The BIG positive: DH and I will pay for the car repairs, but both boys have to pay us back, and until they pay us, they can only use a car to get to work or dr. appts., no more driving to school or to the mall. DS18 went with me on some errands over the weekend. While we were sitting in line at the car wash, we were discussing how long it's going to take him to repay the car repair (he works part-time at Taco Bell, min. wage). I expected a lot of whining because we're making them pay us back, but then he says: "I feel sorry for the kids whose parents give them everything, like a brand new Mustang for their 16th birthday, and they don't have to get a job and don't have to pay their share of car insurance or anything." I asked him why he feels sorry for them, and he said that when they go off to college and get out on their own, they won't know how to handle money or work for what they want, and they're going to have a hard time. Then he said: "You and dad are raising us the right way." Now, how often do you hear that from your own child?! WOW!!:thumbsup2

Thx C.Ann, enjoying everyone's positive news! :thumbsup2

Actually, as seniors, any day we can roll out of bed is positive news :lmao:and we count our blessings while looking forward to a great 2010! :wizard:

It's been a bitter cold windy January, but this week has been quite the treat at a sunny 50*. :sunny:

Yesterday our HS DGS#2 ran in the SMAC meet, he was very proud to be the only freshman on the team and helped team win Bronze. :goodvibes
We couldn't attend, but were excited to see meet via cell video.

This morn our sweet SonIL#2 showed up with banana nut muffins to go with brkf and yummy cream of crab soup for lunch. He's definitely a keeper!

Our DD#3 has been home busy raising her children last 12 yrs.
Her youngest started school in the fall, so today she has an interview for job in hopes she'll put her accounting degree back to work. :shamrock:

DS will be back in states this week-end on 2 wks leave . After his much needed R&R we plan a family get together in NC. Can't wait! :lovestruc

My dear 80yo Mom got a cute little toy Poodle puppy. They are great company together and thus far he's one very spoiled baby!

I went to the oncologist today and he gave me another clear report. Cancer free since May 2006.

I am happy. Every day I have the love of my life with me, good kids and we are not struggling while so many people around us are unemployed and having a hard time. I have nothing to complain about and that is enough good news for me! :goodvibes:

The other day my DD's and I were talking about something we had seen before my DS was born. He asked why he didn't get to see it and I explained to him because he wasn't born yet. And he looks at me real serious (which is strange for this boy!) and says "that's because God kept me until Daddy was ready for a fishing partner". Now we don't go to church but do believe in god so I was a little surpised my 4 yr old DS said that. But it made my DH's day.:lovestruc

Love hearing all of these "positives"! Keep them coming..:thumbsup2

Earlier today it was snowing for awhile and although I'd rather it "not" snow so I can get back up to the lake - LOL - I have to admit it was one of the prettiest snowfalls I've seen in awhile.. Flakes weren't big - nor were they small - somewhere right in between - and the angle in which they were falling just looked so pretty!! It's hard to explain - but there was definitely something different about it..:goodvibes

Received a nice, long letter in the mail today from a friend I hadn't heard from in awhile.. She's been dealing with health issues, required some surgery, but all is well now - and she was even able to find a job recently! She sounds so happy - and I'm just thrilled for her.. She's been through some pretty rough times..

I think the "love bug" has bitten my DGD..;) Gosh - where do the years go?? He's in band and plays the sax (she plays clarinet).. Of course all of this is "hush-hush" from her dad because she really believes that he's going to run out and buy a shot gun when she starts showing an interest in "boys"..:rotfl: So when she talks to me about him she uses a "code name" (which of course is a girls name).. She's as giddy as all get out, but it's cute to watch her going through her first case of "puppy love"..

Projects are coming along nicely.. Just finished another piece today - all I have left to do on that one is to dry-brush it so it looks "old".. :goodvibes

What's up with everyone else today? How about some more "cute kid" stories?? Anyone do anything interesting today? :goodvibes

My DS4 just said "Mommy, I love you the best!" and gave me a kiss. Melts my heart everytime!:cloud9:

DD11 may have Daddy wrapped around her finger, but DS has Mommy wrapped around his! :lovestruc

Awwww...too cute for words..:goodvibes

BIG BREAKING NEWS HERE TODAY!!!! LOL.. DGD decided to let her dad into "the loop" and fessed up that there's a "boy in her life"... The look on his face was priceless..:rotfl::rotfl: Kind of like, "I know I said I wanted to be in the loop, but then again - maybe not.."

At least he made no references to running out to buy a shot gun.. Now THAT is a "positive" for sure!! :thumbsup2

I talked my wife into another WDW vacation earlier today... :thumbsup2

That is full of awesome-ness!

Tomorrow, at the age of 33, I will be taking my very first college class!
:thumbsup2

My surgery (just over 3 weeks ago) to have 4 neurostimulators and the transmitter/battery implanted is so far a success! I'm just happy that I have 3.5 weeks of my long recovery down already! :thumbsup2

:goodvibesYour post made me laugh. I have a 12yoDD and DH wants to know nothing for now.(But I DO!:listen:)

Out of a really busy day, with a little mini-crisis with my Brownie troop, came a really positive thing: My computer monitor is almost 8 years old and it started flickering a few days ago and today...nothing, blank, done, RIP.
DH was travelling and when he got home, I told him about it and he looked at it and said, yep, it was toast alright. Within an hour he had a new one all ready to hook up! I didn't even have to ask. I have to tell you, I was kind of sweating, like from computer withdrawls! I do so much on email and of course here! When it was all hooked up, I sighed relief! He laughed and said "I wouldn't want you to be without your DisneyBoards too long." Gosh, he knows me! What a guy!:lovestruc

I'm so happy your recovery is going well and my wishes for you to continue to recover and heal well!

I found out today that DD#2 is expecting a baby girl. This is her 4th child and she has 1 girl and 2 boys. She is so happy to be able to have 2 of each.

My boyfriend and I spent the entire rainy evening watching The Office on dvd, endlessly snacking, laughing the entire time. It was wonderful. :cloud9: Exactly the kind of relaxation I needed!

Recently, I managed to get tickets to the 2010 Kentucky Derby/Kentucky Oaks. Probably not a big deal for most people, but its sort of been a lifelong dream for this obsessive horse racing fan. Oh, and my favorite filly won Horse of the Year this week, too!

Great topic! Lots of wonderful things to be happy about on this thread. :goodvibes :)

I'm thankful for today. I feel good and happy. :)

Today all 4 of my children went off to school with smiles on their faces. No real reason. Just they were all happy. How can I have a bad day when it started like that?

Oh and my boys are still singing I Hope I Get It from a Chorus Line(they are 7 and 4):rotfl2:

I love this thread!

My DD's big blow out birthday party is this weekend. She turned 10 on Monday. We decided, with her involved, that she could one last big party for her whole class and then we would scale them back going forward. She from now on it will be 2 friends for pizza, rented movies and a sleepover at our house.
HOWEVER, this weekend is a pool party and sleepover at a local hotel, complete with pizza, cake and rented movies. Everyone that was invited is coming (how often does that happen). :scared1:  :faint::faint: Boys can't spend the night though.

She is so incredibly excited!! But I'm beginning to panic at the thought of 15 girls. :scared1: Even the woman at the hotel wished me luck. :lmao:
But I'm really excited for her. She's such a good kid and I'm really proud of her.

And thanks for starting this thread. It's a nice treat to read positive thoughts on the Dis for a change. :goodvibes

I'm going to bake cookies today. By the time my kids come home from school, the house will smell so good!:goodvibes

In review...:goodvibes

Well for me personally, after the first two weeks of January being freezing and snowy it has be wonderful having a little bit of sunshine and temps in the 40's.

Not quite 40's here today, but darn close!! :thumbsup2

A friend on FB is now in a relationship and posted a beautiful picture of flowers she received yesterday - I'm very happy for her.

Great news for your friend! I hope it turns out to be a long-lasting wonderful relationship..:goodvibes

Here is Pittsburgh, two sisters from the area were volunteering at an orphanage in Haiti when the earthquake hit. With a lot of people and agencies intervening on their behalf, this morning one of the sisters returned to Pittsburgh with 54 orphans. There has been lots of local media coverage and it has been pretty special seeing something positive come from so much tragedy. :)

Wow!!! 54 orphans? What will happen to them now? Do they already have families on a waiting list in your area to adopt them? So sad that they are orphans now - but SO wonderful that they have been brought here to be placed in loving homes..:goodvibes

For me (despite problems with confidence) it looks like my Technical operator training is going well. Also the fruit bushes I planted last week are surviving and doing well (21 rasberry canes 2 black current, 2 red current,2 white current and 2 gooseberry bushes)

Always good to learn something new - and I'm sure that you will do well..:goodvibes

I'm jealous of your fruit bushes.. I can't get anything to grow.. I inherited the "black thumb" in the family.. I swear, I can kill the flowers in flowered wallpaper..:rotfl:

I talked my wife into another WDW vacation earlier today... :thumbsup2

Now that seems unusual.. A "wife" that "has" to be talked into a WDW vacation? Is she not a big fan? Whatever the case may be, I hope you have a great time..:thumbsup2

That kind of news would be very, very hard to top! I'm so happy for you.. "Cancer free" - beautiful words!!!!!!! :goodvibes

Tomorrow, at the age of 33, I will be taking my very first college class!

Good for you!! I'm a firm believer that you're never "too old" to try something new; go to college; change careers; take a stab at a new hobby; etc.. What class are you taking?

I made a recipe today for dinner that I love. It reminds me of when I was pregnant with my DD7 and had a lot of health issues, my dear friend and neighbor would make me dinner, mainly this casserole because I loved it so much and I felt so nurtured. Whenever I make it, I think of her and how she took care of me so many times! I haven't seen her in a long time and I miss her, but there's always a little piece of her in her comfort food recipe!

You can't even "buy" that kind of friendship..:goodvibes Although she haven't seen her in a long time, it sounds as though she's always with you - and still there to bring you some degree of comfort.. How great is that? I wonder if she knows? Maybe you should send her a card and tell her so.. It's such a nice, heartwarming story..:goodvibes

I got an A on my most recent grad school assignment, and lost 1 pound in this past week. :)

An "A" and you lost a pound in one week??? You're on a very positive roll here.. Keep up the good work! :thumbsup2

Let's see, it hit 70 here in FL today and my DD survived her oral surgery (which she was super anxious about and I'm relieved it's done!).

Glad the temps are back up in Florida.. I worry about my sis - because she specifically moved there for the warmer temps due to health issues..

I think your DD probably did a better job of surviving her oral surgery than I would have.. I've always been terrified of the dentist.. Hope she's feeling much better now..:goodvibes
