Portofino won on Hotwire!

DianeV posted on the OH&A board that someone got a successful bid for the Portofino Bay on Hotwire for June for $136 a night.

Important information:

The hotel was listed as a 5 star at Universal/WetnWild

It had the following amenities:

Restaurant
Pool
Fitness Ctr
Business Ctr
Golf Nearby
Tennis Nearby
Spa
Children's Activities

The 4-1/2 Star listed has all of the above amenities minus the spa and is SUPPOSED to be the Hard Rock. It was listed as $125 June 18 - 25.

Of course,there are no guarantees on Hotwire. .

I got the Portifino on Hotwire. I assume it will be a standard view room & I certainly won't expect any Lowes First benefits....But $136 a night was just too good to pass up. We had a ressie for a water view & a club room at the RPR, but I decided that the $136 rate was too good of a deal.

Needless to say....I'm happy!

Yes, I got the Portifino on Hotwire in June.

I already spoke to Universal to confirm the ressie and I'm getting a Garden View with 2 queen beds. We're smokers, so they let us request a smoking room and asked if I was a Loews First member. I replied yes, and she made a note on my ressie that we would like the Chardonnay as our welcome gift.

I also found out that Hotwire paid $129 a night for the room.

Purchasing the room was a very tough decision. There were no guarantees that it was the Portifino, but after literally hours of researching it, I knew it had to be. I was also prepared to stay at another resort if that's what they gave me....(I would have really kicked myself, but I was prepared)

My only advice is to BE CAUTIOUS because on Hotwire & Priceline, you never know what you'll end up with.

Yes, Tink10, this IS a big news!

I agree, you have to be a gambler of sorts to deal with Priceline and Hotwire, but if you're willing to take a chance you can end up with a great deal!

Was the rate for the Portifino before taxes and if so how much did it cost for all those days?

I want to take the plunge but need a little bit more info about the cost.

Sorry it took me so long to get back......It's been a busy weekend....The $136 was before taxes. Hotel taxes in Orlando are 11.5% (I think)......Then, Hotwire charges a booking fee of $5.95. My total for 5 nights was $770 (plus some change).

I did purchase the optional trip insurance for $30, because it's a non-cancelable ressie. I've found that the cost for trip insurance is a small price to pay if something happens.

I should add a little note to Thereuare.......I'm a she....not a he....
