I'll post a trip report later, but thought I would review the Portofino Inn here for anyone thinking of staying there.
First off I will say that this interior corridor hotel is dated. . .but well kept. We stayed in a Kids suite which is two rooms, a king bed, a double fold out couch and a set of bunk beds. two televisions, a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker round out the room. I brought my own coffee and filters and did not use the hotel coffee so cannot tell you if it tasted good or not, I am a coffee snob and like to grind my own beans. Its a 4 cup maker so not too hard to bring what you need. The refrigerator is a dorm sized refrigerator and has plenty of capacity for water bottles, snacks and other items. Loved being able to microwave breakfast in the mornings. Just a note, the refrigerator and microwave are on the Kids side of the suite so if your kids are light sleepers and you are an early riser, this could be a problem.
About the beds. In the past people have complained about the pillows, however, I found the pillows to be fine, and IN ABUNDANCE. We had about 10 pillows in the room for the 3 of us. It was great. The king bed was nice. For some people it might have been too soft but I found it to be quite comfortable. It's a pillow top mattress and very soft. I loved it and slept well. Our room was always cleaned before 1 p.m. and it was immaculate. Even the carpet felt clean. I would have loved to have 2 sinks because of being with teens, it worked out just fine.
Complaints: Some of the hardware on the cabinetry was broken, but it really didn't affect our stay. Just something I noticed. No room service: not horrible but heck, sometimes I am spoiled like that and enjoy room service. Although you could get pizza delivery. Dated. . .the hotel is in bad need of a remodel, though the carpets were spotless, which impressed me in such a dated place. The entrance on Harbor can be missed when you are trying to get into the place. . .just a minor inconvenience. . .it is the first available driveway after you cross Katella. . .
Praises: The staff was ULTRA friendly. Check in is quick and easy. No long drawn out process. Parking is free. If you use ART, the stop is right there in front of the hotel on Harbor. There are benches to sit because it is a regular bus stop as well. It is a very clean hotel. The kids suites all face the Disneyland resort and you can see fireworks from your room. The hotel is non-smoking so all smoking must occur at the outdoor smoking areas. The housekeeping staff is VERY responsive to a need. They will fill it immediately. I found the room to be perfect since I could close the sliding doors between the two rooms (these doors have set in glass so you can see everything in the other room even with the door closed) and have a bit of privacy. It is about a 7 minute stroll to the main entrance (note that I said stroll. . .I do not like to walk fast when I am just getting started in the morning). There is a 7-11 on the corner across Katella from the hotel. They have everything you need to make your stay wonderful and it is right there. . .
One other thing I forgot to mention. . .this hotel room comes equiped with a full sized ironing board and iron, as well as a VERY POWERFUL blowdryer that nearly rivaled my own.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. . .
