Just curious but planning our return to universal this coming november. The past two times we stayed at royal pacific because its usually the cheapest of the premier (but still soooooo beautiful!), this time it appears portofino is by a couple hundred. Any theories as to why? November 15-19th would be the stay date. Just curious as to something I should be made aware of/potentially look at another resort?

On a side note, christmas decorations and such I believe would be up at that time. Having recently gone during Mardi Gras, does the christmas holiday season have special food booths similar to mardi gras during that time period?

Thanks!

No idea on theories but for my dates in Feb/23 Portofino is also definitely cheaper than RPR - by like 10-15 per night.

Prices are adjusted a lot of the times do to the availability of rooms. Keep checking back. Your dates might open with a better price.

my best guess is rack room rates at Royal Pacific are less scary so they are booked first. Probably applies to their savvy traveler rates too for the lower tier rooms. I think that is why we usually end up with AP rates at Portofino. Their rack room rates are so high no one wants them so they are left for when they discount to fill rooms.

In looking at the those dates, PBR has "Be A Savvy Traveler" rates available for their base Gardenview room at $401/night. RPR does not have any of their base rooms left for the "Be A Savvy Traveler" rates. They do have some available for their "Seasonal Rate" (i.e. their rack rate) for $419/night.

So essentially RPR has a lot of rooms at the lower rates already booked up leaving only their "rack" rate available (or no rooms available) for those room types.
