Are the portholes pretty big in the deluxe ocean view cabins? The picture on the website makes them look huge. Also has anyone had one of these rooms on deck 7. I see they are all the way in the front. Can you really feel the movement of the ship from there? We have always been in the back of the ships and it has always felt pretty steady. Thanks!!

Yes, the portholes are quite large! Maybe someone else has the dimensions, but they are not the "old time" tiny portholes . On deck one, however, the staterooms do have two small portholes, instead of one large one.

On deck 2 they are the large ones. They are quite large....our 11 yr old dd loved sitting on the edge of it. We honestly did'nt feel the movement in our cabin at all....we were about mid way.

I was told by a DCL rep on the phone that they are 48" diameter. She didn't mention the Deck 1 size.
In 4 cruises I was only that far fwd once and felt a lot of motion (and heard a lot of anchor noise if you're going to Grand Cayman) and got a little seasick the 1st nt. Now I only stay aft. very little motion and convenient to the deck 9 drink station.
The very fwd porthole cabins are Cat. 8 so why not book Cat. 9? Deck 2 is all ocean view porthole cabins so you can be mid-ship or aft if you like and save a few hundred $$$ too. Deck 1 is also considered ov, cat 9 and has 2 small portholes so we like to book early to make sure we get on deck 2.
jmho.

They aren't all 48" in diameter, at least the ones on Deck 2. On Deck 2 the portholes are largest in the center of the ship and get a bit smaller as you move to the front or back. It's not a huge difference, but they are definitely a bit smaller at the ends.

Category 8s and 9s are the Deluxe Oceanview cabins. The 8s all have the big portholes and the 9s on Deck 2 also ahve them. The 9s on Deck 1 have two smaller portholes and they are quite small...maybe 12-18 inches in diameter.

We've booked a Cat. 9 GTY, so we have no idea which deck we'll be on yet. Any idea how "small" the two small port holes are in the deck 1 cabins? :confused3

Will we still have a decent enough view of the ocean?

my parents had 7000 when we did the Disney Magic in February 2006. The porthole was huge. No problems with movement that they mentioned. The location was great - two floors up to topsider's and the pools, two floors down to the kids club. If we weren't doing a balcony cabin I'd definitely do this one.

Hi here is some pictures of the porthole in our cabin far forward on deck 2.

- the kids were nearly 5 & 9 (though small for their ages) at the time they were taken;

We had our first deluxe ocean view in 06 on deck six, rather forward. We loved it! We really enjoyed the view. I can't say we notice much difference in the motion.

In a few weeks, we have a dov, on deck 2.

On our first two cruises we were aft in cat 6, deck 6. Last year we were in a cat 8 on Deck 5 fwd. We honestly did not feel any more movement in the fwd room. I'm very, very sensitive and get motion sickness but I was fine. So much in fact that we are leaving in two weeks and I again have a cat 8 on deck 7 and another booked for Christmas 08.

Thanks for the pictures jdybnsn!! The portholes are huge I am happy to see :) Thanks for everyone's input!!:yay: :yay: :yay:

No problem - glad to help :thumbsup2

....and I forgot to say we never noticed the ships' motion either ....and we were in a cabin that was about 5 cabins down from the forward end of the ship.

I have pics of the porthole. If I can remember how to do it, I will post them.

Our cruise last year we were cat 9 on Deck 2 - loved it so much we booked the same this year. Deck 2 is really quiet because the higher decks have a lot of activity, and the port holes were huge. We only had one rough day at sea but everyone everywhere in the ship was struggling. We actually liked the swaying and I did take a little anti-seasickness meds to help. You couldn't even really swim in the pools because of the swaying! But that's very unusual.

I thought we would miss having a verandah but once you are at sea it's quite cold and windy on the outer decks, and we weren't in the room that much except at night.

The portholes are quite big. I love them because you get that natural light and it really makes the room seem bigger.

We stayed in a Cat 9 on Deck 2 by the aft elevators and did not feel too much motion. We were the most forward room on Deck 5 this last trip and boy was I sick there. I loved the location on Deck 5 but we decided to move back down to Deck 2 by the aft elevators for our next cruise because I don't want to increase my chances of being that sick again.
