I'll say it, Disney's portable scanners are utter crap. While trying to scan my ticket for FP for the FoF parade through the plastic on the lanyard it wouldn't work at all (thankfully the other one there could scan it). The ticket machines and fp kiosks have no problem with it, even if it has a plastic bag over it. Do we need to get MBs just for this purpose? I still don't like the idea of wearing them all the time as they too easily can be lost that way. Maybe in our pockets for emergencies? Was so annoying this time

Sorry you had difficulty with a ticket scan. I've never had difficulty with mine, but of course that doesn't help your situation. I'd suggest not bothering with an MB though as it sounds like it was just that particular scanner since you haven't had a problem with the turnstiles and kiosks. Like you, I prefer not to wear a MB and just use my AP card when needed. It never even leaves my little pass case when I use it.

So, you had a problem with one scanner but the second one was fine and you are calling them all "utter crap"? I get that you are upset but you were able to get into the park and enjoy your day.

It is always good to be prepared for emergencies. But based on the level of inconvenience you experienced, buying a Magic Band is probably an expensive insurance policy if you don't otherwise like MagicBands.

MB aren't easily lost unless of course you can't figure out how to fasten them. If that's the case then you have a much bigger problem on your hands.:dog2:

It sounds like you had a very minor issue with 1 of the portable scanners that could have been solved by simply taking the card out of the plastic holder for a few seconds while it was scanned.
Or if that didn't work, you could have simply pulled out your phone and shown them your reservation on MDX.

Feeling like the need exists to purchase a MagicBand for a single experience (at which the situation seems to easily resolved itself) seems like a bit of a stretch to me.

Also, in my 18+ months of using MagicBands several times a week, I have never had the issue of a band falling off. Frequently I forget that I have it on and end up wearing it out and about, but still it has never comes off randomly

Oh well in my experience half of them are crappy

Taking the card out of it is nearly impossible, it's in there so well. So I really didn't want it to come to that as it'd probably damage everything. I guess the phone could've worked though. Thanks for the advice. Would they accept a printout, do you think? I'd turn on the phone and access the account if necessary though
