Portable ECV recommendation

MIL will be traveling with us next trip & needs an ECV. She has used one before at WDW, but this time we will be staying off site & driving to the parks. Anyone have a recommendation for an ECV that folds down or is easily transportable? I’ve seen many that say they are transportable, but you have to break them down into several pieces. That seems cumbersome to have to do several times a day. Does anyone know of anything that can be rented that’s easier than that? We have a Tahoe so have a pretty large space to put something in the back.

There are some folding ones available for purchase out there, but most look very uncomfortable. I also think Buena Vista might rent one that folds, but honestly never have had a problem with the ones that break apart.

If you have strong helpers and enough available space in your vehicle remove basket remove seat, fold down tiller then load

Edited to add the instructions have you break it down into more pieces then necessary so the pieces are lighter and take less trunk space

I agree, the break apart units do not have to be fully broken apart, especially if 2 people can lift. For the 2 we own that break apart, I remove the basket, seat and batteries and then lift the base/wheel unit in as one piece. We do own a Luggie that is all one piece. It is great in that it does not take up as much space when traveling.

As for one to rent, my cousin rented the Triaxe Scooter from Regal. It weighed about 5-10 lbs less than the Luggie my sister used, but was more difficult to load. The tiller did not hold in place as well for loading/unloading. I should have used a bungee cord to hold it in place then it might have done better.

I own one that breaks down into 5 pieces, and it's not hard or time consuming-DH is 70 yo, and he has no trouble-takes just a minute or two. The one I have is a GoGo Traveler, and Gold Mobility's GoGo Sport is virtually identical.

I have the same one. Works great.

I rented the portable ECV from Buena Vista scooters several years ago and if you have someone in your party that can lift and put it together.....it didn't seem too difficult. My husband was able to do it alone - sometimes my son helped. When it's assembled it is fairly comfortable and similar looking to the regular ECV off-site rental that doesn't come apart. I believe other companies like Gold Mobility, etc. rent the same scooter that they call portable. It took maybe 5 minutes to assemble/disassemble at most. I don't think the heaviest piece was any heavier than the cat litter we normally buy - haha! I suggest calling an off-site company and asking how heavy the heaviest piece is if that is a concern. The assembly wasn't anything to hold up your day.

Buena Vista would ask my weight - or at least suggest that the closer you are to 200 lbs. the more issues you are likely to have with battery life. I don't know if that's still the case but if the person is on the heavier side you may want to discuss that with your rental company to make sure they will be comfortable and whether the scooter will need to be recharged at some point during your day. I was fine with the weight limit but still needed to recharge.

I have a Pride Victory 10 scooter that is a heavy duty. It breaks down into 5 or 6 pieces. My husband can put it together in about 10 minutes or less, and about the same to break it down. Its quite a bit heavier than the go-go versions, largely due to the two very heavy batteries and the rear wheel assembly that is heavy as well. Its only tough if its raining or very hot and humid out.

IMO gold mobility go go is plenty heavy. However, it’s the bulk factor that got me vs the weight. even when broken down into components, too unwieldy for me solo

YMMV. I’d have never been able to get it into SUV trunk by myself, even when fully disassembled

The Victory 10 is easy if you have a minivan where the back row can fold flat. Put it in neutral, set the front wheel on the floor, then lift the back. Better with two people, but doable with one. The gogo sport is harder because it is shorter.

My Victory 10 fits in the back of our Hyundai Santa Fe with one seat back down. Normally we break it down, as the 2 batteries are heavy, and the rear assembly is also pretty heavy. I can't imagine lifting it fully assembled. My husband can handle the "parts" by himself.
