If we rent a minivan and bring a portable dvd player (attached to the front seats, 2 screens) is there any way to use wireless headphones for the kids to listen to their movies? Any way to do this with 3 kids? We can't afford to purchase one for each kid.

DH prefers not to listen to the kids movies while driving.

I'm thinking about buying the portable DVD player since the rental minivans that come with them cost over $800 for our 10 day rental.

Any advice from experienced traveling dvd families????? We've never owned one of these before. :confused3

We always travel with our portable DVD player. We have two screens that attach to the seats in front of them. Each of the screens (at least on our DVD player) has two outlets for headphones, so a total of 4 could listen using headphones.

With traffic on the roads, my kids have always had a hard time hearing strictly from the DVD player and headphones are needed. However we do things a little differently. We have something that plugs into the DVD player that looks like a cassett tape. We put that into the tape player and everyone can hear the movie in stereo. We don't mind hearing the movie as we are traveling.....whatever works to keep them happy. On the plane though, we always use the headphones and only take one screen.

Good Luck

With 3 kids, one of them would be sitting in the last row of seats. Do they make headphones with cords that long? :confused3

Or could we put one DVD player on the back of the drivers seat - with two headphones plugged into that one? And the second DVD on the back of the second row of seats, so that the other child could plug his headphones into that DVD? How would that work with wires everywhere????? :confused3

I'm clueless and need an electronics technician to explain it to me...

Yes, you could make it work with either of the two cases you mentioned. The negative about any of this is the cords. You'll have one cord that goes from the main unit up to your lighter to be plugged in. Another cord will connect the main unit and the 2nd screen. Each headphone will have it's own cord (unless you find cordless?), or in our case, the headphone cord comes up to the front to be plugged into the tape deck. We strategically place all the cords so that when they are getting in and out of the van they don't rip any out.

I'm also one who is so bad with electrical things.....the first time we went to use the portable DVD's it took me forever to figure out how to hook it all up in the van. Thank goodness I have a 15 year old. They always seem to know how to plug everything in. :goodvibes
