Looking for advice on wheather to book a port side room or a starbard side room for the Eastern magic cruise? What are the views from each? Which do you prefer? Any info. would be helpful.

Thanks

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to be ugly, but when you are out to sea the view is pretty much the same from both sides and both ends...all water. At night it is one color .. all black!

My personal opinion is save the money for something else onboard and get an inside room.
:earsboy: :earsgirl:

Actually not all views from the sea are the same. On a clear day the ship goes by many islands that can be seen from the ship. I was more interested in the view from port. Depending on how the ship docks, does one side give you a view of the island?

depending upon whether the ship backed in or went straight in determined whether we would have a view of the island from our verandah or not. I hear that the position of the ship when docking depends upon a lot of factors (weather, mood of the captain, etc.) so you can never tell which side is the "best".

My opinion is the opposite of brack's - get a verandah if at all possible.:hyper:

Verandahs are the way to go! Nothing compares to seeing CC in the AM as you're getting ready to dock! The lighthouse @ Nassau was also beautiful @ 7am from your verandah! We were on the portside on our last cruise & it was great. This February we'll be trying the starboard side. Get a verandah if you can!! Cathie princess:

Port vs Starboard side views

(ALSO dependent upon if the captain pulls or backs in to a port but after 8 cruises, this information is what we have experienced):

Port Side

Port Canaveral - you can see KSC and as you sail away you get an ocean view
Castaway Cay - you see the dock
Nassau - other ship long side you
Freeport - dock
St. Thomas - dock
St. Marten - other ship along side you
Key West - sunset
Grand Cayman - ocean and land (same view from either side since you are tendered)
Cozumel - ship along side you or if no ship there, Cozumel

Starboard Side

Port Canaveral - Dock and Florida coast for a while
Castaway Cay - lagoon and island
Nassau - other ship along side you - sometimes the town, sometimes Paradise Island
Freeport - rock quarry (great sunset at night!)
St. Thomas - bay
St. Marten - loading area and mountain
Key West - town
Grand Cayman - ocean and land
Cozumel - ocean and in the distance, Yucatan Peninsula

The verandahs are wonderful for sunrises and sunsets, watching the stars at night or seeing cloud to cloud lightening in the distance.

There are MANY advantages to the verandah, it's a personal choice but don't knock it til you try it!

Thanks you guys, really great info. For Raggamuffinmon, the Port side is to your left when you are looking toward the forward part of the ship, and the starboard side is to the right when looking toward the front of the ship.

Ok - really dumb question....which side is which?

Not a dumb question - I mean how many of us knew port, starboard, aft and forward before we started to cruise?!!! Not many of us, I'd guess!

Ummm...I knew, Rae! LOL :p

Well, I still have to look it up because I'm an old woman with horses on the brain!!!

LOL!

I'm an old woman with horses on the brain!!!

That's ok Rae, I'm a young woman with no brain left! I'm totally convinced that each one of my kids took half my brain cells and I have three kids so go figure what's left for me!

Hmmm...I think I'm still young. Maybe I'm not?!?! I have noticed that the kids seem to keep getting older but I never thought I was....

AHHHH - I need a cruise!

You live in Buffalo? You will need a cruise after this winter is over, dear!!!

Yes, we are very partial to the starboard side - but at least we gave the port side a try, as we did with the navigator's verandah.

I am also particular about the placement in the room - yes, this is very odd, but I want the bathroom to be on my right side as I go into the cabin - which also puts the bed there. That way when we said, I can see us going forward not backward. Make sense??

Hi Rae, This will be our 2nd cruise & we'll be trying starboard side this time, but in the same aft. section. We travel with a handicapped friend who gets the huge room right at the rear of the ship. We'll be in 6654, 6652 & 6650. I know what you mean about the room placement, so you're not the only one who likes their room a certain way. My sister & I travel to Florida twice a year with our families & always request our rooms from previous trips because we like the setup. Nice to know someone else thinks the same way! Have good one !! Cathie :boat: (Oh and we're not getting older, just our kids are!!!):bounce:

owwww , that must hurt, be careful, aren't they heavy??? OK, I'm sorry, I have to fill in for BD

Jeanny - pretty good comeback - but just not the same around here without BD.

Yup, three horses get heavy - but as the new "Fred MacMurray" - I couldn't get rid of My Three Sons, regardless of their size!

I am starting to think that my comments about starboard, aft and 5622 may be shooting myself in the foot!!!!!! I'll see what happens when I book another cruise!!

what side of the ship they are on? Are even numbers on one side and odd on the other?
I never gave this a thought either!

Staterooms that end in even numbers are outside cabins, staterooms that end in odd numbers are inside cabins.
