Just saw this posted on Deb Wills' site:

Port Orleans to undergo extensive renovations!

Port Orleans Resort will undergo an extensive room renovation that will take approximately 2 years to complete. The French Quarter rooms will be done first and the entire resort will be closed during this time. The rooms will get all new furniture, carpet, bathrooms and wall coverings.

Effective today (April 4) no reservations will be taken for the resort.

Disney will be contacting guests who currently have reservations at the French Quarter to move them to another moderate resort. More details as they become available.

Perhaps they are trying to get this kind of work completed while visitors levels are so low ?

Hope the news doesn't cause too many people problems :(

Exactly - just like Caribbean Beach last year I think. Maybe they start to open Pop Century at last if the bookings begin to pick up.

The Caribbean Beach closure was to renovate the food court and put in a new restaurant and was announced way ahead of time - in this case, this is like the situation following September 11th - the French Quarters were closed then too due to a drop in bookings.

The positive side to this is the new furnishings in the rooms.
