Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Two [Thread now FULL and closed]

Thank you all, that gives me a lot to think about. Now if only I can keep the secret myself. One other question- this trip (in Sept) is for both kids birthdays. One has a Sept birthday, the other October. Any suggestions on how to make it special? I know about the buttons but I'm thinking about getting something put in the room before we arrive. Would POR do something like that and would it cost me a fortune?

You can do something through Disney, but it is quite expensive. Many people have recommended doing Memories by Betsy.

It won't be placed in the room until after your room is available; not before you arrive. But if you don't go into your room for some time after you receive the text, it may be there.

You can also get someone to take the kids to the pool and you can decorate the room yourself for very little cost.

So, not to sound "unappreciative" but what would make them upgrade people to a RR? I've seen a few people here now say they got that "pixie dust." But my issue is I specifically paid for preferred so I'm guaranteed AB. I don't like the mansions at all and would be utterly disappointed (which I would quickly get over) if I was "upgraded" to the mansions...

I don't think you need to worry about that. I can't imagine they would put someone who paid for preferred anywhere else. I'm sure the people they upgrade to RR would all have the possibility to be in mansion rooms otherwise, just standard or garden view.

The couple that I had heard that were upgraded had Riverview and were upgraded to Royal Riverview...I think that would be CONSIDERABLE pixie dust to be upgraded from standard to Royal or Royal Riverview. WOW!

Andre, this thread was what prompt me to send an online fax to them. I didn't follow your outline, because I was doing it off my phone. I didn't ask for anything really, just a basic simple letter. Yet that started the most amazing week of my life. So thank you for helping me do that for my kids. This forum helped me so much!!!!! Heidi

Glad we could help. While a lot of people have had great success with modifying the fax template that Venomhatch created, personally I tend to feel that as long as the basic important info is present, it's often better to be creative and write your own personalised message rather than sending a cookie-cutter creation. It certainly worked in your case anyway!

I do know that when the room assignment manager at POR started to notice a number of suspiciously similar-looking faxes arriving on his desk a few months back, he did a bit of Googling to track down just where on the internet they were originating from... and guess where Google led him? ;)

Normally I think they tend to look for families who might be celebrating special occasions, or someone who seems like they could do with some extra pixie dust for one reason or another. Think in terms of "random acts of kindness", when they find they have a chance to do something nice for someone.

Within Preferred room bookings I doubt they'd upgrade someone to somewhere further away though - maybe a River View in the same building or something similar, but not to somewhere further away.

But it's meant as a random nice surprise and shouldn't be in any way 'expected' - rather like getting towel animals from housekeeping.

We'll be at POFQ with two rooms. Does anyone know if there are connecting rooms in each of the buildings and if there are connecting rooms on the 3rd floor? Thanks!

My apologies- I forgot it was a template from Venom. Nonetheless, I never would have thought to do it if I was not part of this forum or read that thread. Also since I don't have access to a fax doing it online was great advice. ** I think it's funny that the POR assignment manager tracked the template down.... Thanks again!!!! And I'm going to continue to hang out on the DIS hoping I can help someone else like everyone here helped me!!!!

Yeah, I always tell guests they should change the fax as much as possible to reflect their visit. Not to use it to expect anything they should not deserve. Example of expecting upgrades for free or something they didn't pay for. My Fax is designed for the guest that need special requests originally like special cleaning requirements because of someones medical needs, or Someone traveling with another family and they want to be as close as possible to each other. So I do not condone the use to try to get free upgrades but hinting that your celebrating something and just would like to be in a certain area is what My room fax was intended for.

Ditto...this is the MOST informative thread with regard to resort details, ressies, info, etc. This thread is the reason we've gone to POR. I used, with Venom's help, the FAX method and got a return email (as I added it onto the fax) within an hour from the room assignment manager. We had booked a Royal Riverfront, so, obviously, our preferences would've been few, but we really wanted upper floor, Oak Manor, not too far from the foot bridge and we got just that. LOVED the location and, Mr. Elg was a my new best friend when we saw where our room was. :yay: Obviously, 3rd in line to the throne, second only to Venom and Andre! :worship::worship:

I knew that requests were only that, so I booked Royal Riverfront as a surprise for DD. So, even if we couldn't get Oak near the corner, 2nd floor, I knew we'd have a great room, but I was pleased. I know there have been some negative reviews regarding check-in at POR lately and a few other things, but we've always had a great, efficient experience there. Period.

Well Thank you for the complement. But I am just trying to help those who need the help and feel the system doesn't quite allow you to address where about you would like to stay or if anyone has special needs for a family member. That is my concern and I get a smile every time someone gets what they needed but happy if they get a little extra magic!

.... Again, I didn't expect anything nor did I ask for anything other than a top floor anywhere. It purely was a big bag of unexplained pixie dust. My note was informal and warm. The only thing I copied from venom was the fax number to send it to and of course the idea to do it. So thanks venom

I wasn't confused to what you said. I was just stating my disclaimer to those who use it. It was nothing about what you mentioned, but thank you much for the thanks sent.

DH is the worst sleeper, could hear a fly walk across the floor, so that's why we requested upper floor near corner. Otherwise, he would've collapsed by day 2 with no sleep! :) I figured it couldn't hurt to ask, but I never would've known HOW to go about that without the help of this forum!:thumbsup2

That's what we all are here for.

Lisa, I feel the same way you do and so glad we both had fantastic, magical experiences at POR! I totally understand your reason for a top floor, my ds has breathing issues associated w/asthma & a deviated septum which causes him to be a light sleeper, so I figured a top floor would be quieter as well. :) :) :)

This is what I created it for...... Glad you were able to get that help with that!

Changed and updated my fax template again.

Has he ever tried taking Melotonin? I took it at Disney to help me sleep. It worked wonders. I use a fan at night when I'm home, but can't take that on the plane with me. I did have a white noise app on my phone, but it's not the same.

Where about is the template located? I sent my own last time I went but would just like to see what you have. Is it at the beginning of the thread or on the portorleans.org site?

Link in the LINKS post at the start of this thread, or in Venom's sig.
