Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Three (NOW CLOSED, see 2014 thread)

From reading other posts, my understanding is that if you request a fridge and they cannot provide one then you may request the credit. If you don't request a fridge and do not have one, it is not an automatic credit as most folks were notified that the amenity was not available. On this thread, most guests have been getting a fridge after requesting one. Of course they do their best to fill medical requests first.

We check in 11/19, and we have not been notified. Should we have been? I know about the issue from this board only. Although I would like a fridge for bottled water and such, I haven't requested one. I will ask for the credit if we don't get one, but we don't have a medical need for a fridge, so I can do without if needed.

Good morning to all of you fine people!

Here is a quote to get you through the day.

"Fate is kind. She brings to those who love, the sweet fulfillment of their secret longing."

I'm not the poster you were asking, but thought I'd take a shot at your question since I lived in ATL for many years, and we drive through there now when traveling to WDW. Since you will be traveling south, I-75 north of downtown shouldn't be too bad (most people will be going north), but once you get close to downtown, there will be a lot people traveling south of downtown. Atlanta's suburbs are extremely sprawling in every direction. I would say, especially on a Friday, that you want to be going through downtown Atlanta no later than 3:00 p.m. Hope that helps.

Thanks. Exactly what I needed t know!

Good Morning, been reading all these posts since we booked our trip 2 months ago. My parents are taking us on a family vacation to WDW Nov 22-Nov 29. Unfortunately this will probably be my fathers last trip, as he has been fighting cancer for ten years. This will also be my sons first WDW trip, he is 8. What would be the best way to try to get some "pixie dust" for my parents and or my son? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

Thanks Sue, but I guess I didn't word that properly....lol....what I meant was shipping a box to the resort via UPS.

I think it would work the same way.
Ship it to POR. And have on the mailing label hold for guest Three Cats, and your arrival date.

So sorry, about your dad. I would just have noted on your reservation when asked what your celebrating that it's your sons first visit. Or first family visit, what ever is more applicable. Any birthday? Anniversary? Good luck. I hope you find some pixiedust: it's always a nice surprise if you get some! And very magical!
I'm just happy if I get my requests :) but extra pixiedust: is so fun!

For those of you that mail a package to the resort prior to your trip.....how do you address the box? Do you write "c/o" or "hold for"? Your reservation #? I just don't want to mess this up....lol

Yes, quote your full name and arrival date (reservation number too if you wish, but not needed) c/o Port Orleans Riverside. Use the PO BOX 10000 address if you are sending by post, or the resort's street address (1251 Riverside Drive) if sending via courier.

Quick question. Are handicapped rooms and preferred rooms different categories or are their handicapped rooms in the preferred catagory?

"Handicapped" rooms are located all over the resort, in pretty much all category types. Obviously fully wheelchair accessible ones are either ground floor or close to the elevators in the mansion buildings. See my building floorplans for exact locations.

Weird question - I've heard at some resorts that if you don't take the refridgerator, you get a $15 credit. Does anyone know if this is true for POR?

Mostly true, yes. Assuming you have requested a fridge and they cannot provide you with one, you may be able to get a $15/night credit - but only if you ask for it. This may not apply to some bookings made after July though, because as soon as this problem occurred they removed Refrigerator from the list of Room Amenities.

The best way would be to fax a few days before you arrive explaining the overall situation and any also specific requests that you may have (e.g. medical needs) and see what they can do for you.

If you want to arrange something more specific, you could call the phone number in the first post and ask to speak to someone in Guest Relations AT THE RESORT (remembering that your initial call will be answered by an offsite call center) and discuss it with them.

I hope it all goes well and that everyone has a wonderful time and you all make some very special memories. Make the most of every moment.

Andre

Very true Andre. We stayed our arrival night at Pop in August, room didn't have fridge so I went back over to Lobby Concierge/Guest Services and asked for the credit. CM didn't want to give it to me and said it's no longer an amenity. I told her when I booked it was an amenity. She begrudgingly gave me the credit.

I had food with me and still had rental car from Ft. Lauderdale portion of trip, so I went to my resort we were moving to and left the groceries with Bell Service to be refrigerated.

Thanks Andre! I thought that was right but I just wanted to double check. One other question that I haven't seen the answer for in my readings. What is the best way to get to either of the mini golf courses from riverside without a car?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe one is located next to Blizzard Beach, and the other is across from BWI.
To get to the one across from BWI you could take the bus to DHS, then boat or walk to BWI.

According to Allears.net Fantasia Gardens is across from the Dolphin. They have good info. on their site about how to get there.

I specifically mentioned in my fax that we did not need a fridge, if someone else needed some pixie dust. Then I requested and received the $15 per night credit. It is interesting to note what Andre said about removing the fridge from the list of amenities. Hadn't thought about that one. I asked for the credit at check out and it was immediately granted without question. We stayed 9 nights at the beginning of September.

Thanks! I knew I passed a mini golf during our YC stay in August, but couldn't be sure which resort it was across from ::yes::

Is this because Pop is a value, or is it off the list of amenities of all the resorts?

All resorts have fridges. When we checked into POP 2 weeks ago there was no fridge. But about half way through without asking one showed up in the room. I went to he desk and got a $60 credit for the nights we did not have one in the room.
