Can anyone tell me about the horse drawn carriage rides. Has anyone done this. Do you need reservations or can you just show up. Also how much does it cost. We will be there in 16 days and was thinking of surprising my wife and daughter

You can do reservations and I highly recommend doing that. They sometimes can do walk-ups if no one has booked it solid for that night. It is a very nice ride around quite soothing as you look at all the sights around.

Just let concierge know and they will call one for you. It may take around 15min before one can arrive.

Or there may be one waiting outside, there often is.

Also, we currently have reservations for a Garden View room but would love to be near the food court and main pool. It will be my birthday when we are there - would you mention this in the request in hopes of getting a better room?

Yup, I would, can't do any harm. As far as the sections go though, it's very much a personal thing. See http://www.portorleans.org/faqs.php#Choice. I like both, but for different reasons, and would not be unhappy with either section just as long as I wasn't located too far out.

They are fun, we've done it and it'd be a nice treat for the ladies in your life one evening, a very pleasant gentle way to view the whole resort too. As for the mundane pricing & booking details, I guess someone really should write a FAQ about Port Orleans, and maybe put it at the start of a special FAQ thread or something like that? :) :) (in the Recreation Facilities section)

Thanks. Feel a little silly since I looked every where but there.

After lots of waiting and reading everything I could find on POR, we finally had our trip to POR/WDW. Our room was ready when we arrived at 10:30. I did do online check in. The CM who checked us in was SUPER friendly and funny. We got some Pixi Dust and were upgraded to a Royal Room Garden View from a regular Garden View room. Our room was amazing, 9741 in Parterre Place. We had a great view of the courtyard and the River. We did not have a fridge, but they gave us the $15 credit with no issues. When we asked for it they asked why we would have needed one and I told them we would have brought some food and drinks to keep in there but did not since we received the letter saying they were being replaced. We never waited very long for a bus. They were full buses, and we did end up standing most of the time, but that was by choice so others could have seats. We were kid free this time, and really, standing for a few more minutes in the span of the whole day isn't a big deal with no kids. The grounds at POR are gorgeous. I love going in September when the crowds are so low at the parks. We walked on to almost every ride between FP+ and EMH. LOVED the Magic Bands and PF+. We didn't really even need to double dip and use paper fast passes. My favorite thing about FP+ is the ability to change times or attractions on the fly. We had a FP+ for Splash Mountain and saw that it had a very short line one day, so we went ahead and rode it and changed our FP to something else. It adds a LOT of flexibility over having to return to a ride at whatever time you get when we get a paper FP. There was a FP+ time we missed and we were able to go back and change it till later, even though it was past the time window. I think PF+ will really help with feeling less rushed, and less going back and forth across the entire park just to get to the ride you have a FP for. It was also great having the bands and not having to dig out cards when we needed them. Super great trip and we will definitely be back!
:goodvibes
Do you have to have a smartphone to change fp+ on the fly, or do they have kiosks at the parks for this?

omg, one more month and we're back with the mouse!

(ticker is off, I don't know why, but when you reserve the cruise 25 months in advance,
I guess one makes calcultation mistakes....... :rotfl::lmao::rotfl:)

:tinker: Poussière de fée!

DH & I did it in April, we just talked to the concierge at check in & he made arrangements for the 6:30pm ride. It was amazing. We loved it. Lori gave us a choice of either going through POR or POFQ & since we were staying at POR we chose to go through POFQ. I'm glad we did because we decided we really like POR 100% better than FQ. If you get Lori she is amazing & has been doing this for years & points out alot of little things that are very enjoyable. Have fun!!

Can't remember the price but it's here somewhere in a thread for sure.

We are trying to figure out which place would be the best location to request for our stay and we are in need of suggestions.

In order of importance, here is what our family would like:

1. Magnolia Bend Mansion Side
2. Distance to Bus Stop
3. Distance to Food Court
4. Distance to Main Pool

Based on our 'wish list' (knowing full well that we may not get any of the above requests filled), can someone please recommend the best location? We are leaving in a few weeks and would like to get our request in ASAP.

Thanks for your help :)

Just Love Disney, I'm not the expert, but I think it might be good to know what sort of room you booked.

It depends a bit on your room type (e.g. standard view will be on the far parking-lot side of both of the mansion buildings, see map in first post) and whether you want to use the outlying or the main bus stops (the outlying ones are closer from the mansion buildings). Both Parterre Place and Magnolia Terrace are quite big, and both of them have some rooms that match your requests but also many that don't. Oh, and I wouldn't worry about the pool request, as quick access to the food court from the mansion buildings would be via the main pool area anyway.

So rather than asking for a specific building, let them know your requests pretty much as you've written them here - i.e. your preferences in order of priority. To simplify it, I'd suggest just asking for "a mansion building room, fairly close to the bridge to Ol' Man Island".

First of all... I can't wait for my first POR stay in 16 days! Though I just got a letter about the lack of fridges. I need a fridge for my insulin though, where do I call to request one. I think I will bring a cooler though just in case! Also, since I have been having major foot problems I'm planning on renting a EVC. They say the Disney approved places will send it right to bell services for me to pick up. Should I let POR know I'm going to be getting one?

For both questions, I'd suggest getting them mentioned in your booking first (call the Disney Reservations Center) and then faxing to confirm a few days before you arrive. See the first FAQ post for info on doing this and links.

thanks for the reply! Debating bringing my own or packing light. We will be there in one week. Can't wait!

Pack light - the dryer is decent even tho not high power. I hv really really long hair and it worked well enough for me - made sure i did a good towel dry first. Save the space for shopping!

I'm really surprised that no-one has commented on this new addition at the South Depot bus stop... :thumbsup2

At present it is only at the Riverside South Depot (with no immediate plans for the outer stops or at FQ) but it's still a very nice start! The TV itself has been in place for several months by the way (I noticed it last trip) but it has only recently gone live. (Thanks for the photo D!)

Ha ha dont get me started on the transportation - no matter what park i chose the buses for the other parks came in pairs!

So while i saw it - wasnt impressed because really the test will be can they keep to that schedule.

It will be a great addition once they get the kinks out.

Sorry - ranting - for as long as they hv been doing resort to park transportation you would think it was better organized and timed - our mnsshp day i heard a women at south complain about waiting for an hour and half - i had never seen a line at any depot but this day was bad at all of them.

Getting better but still seems like they dont hv their act together- is por really that big with twice as many people as other resorts? We got two buses to others one at epcot and magic kingdom and there was still a line! The bus lune was linger than the ride lines - ha ha ha

I just saw on another thread that Pop Warner is scheduled to be at POR the second week of December. Which coincides with my stay. Will they be booked into a certain section all together, or will they have rooms all over the resort?

Last time i was here when they were they were all over - players and cheerleaders - mill was a madhouse -

Sounds like they need a better real-time updating system on the buses so that if it gets held up the time adjusts to compensate for that..

Me too i like it and agree - the diverting is a huge problem. Scooters should also get designated buses because it takes time for people to move fr those seats - lift the seats - put the ramp down - get the passenger on board and situated - strap them in - put the ramp up and board everyone. This adds to the timing problem as well - there were two on our bus - was a little awkward

We saw this, it was wonderful. It was turned on about our 2nd or 3rd day. It is only one the first stop (closest to the main building).

The timings were spot on. The busses arrived within 1-2 minutes of the time on the monitor.

Stacy

This is good to hear as it should translate to other depots being in time or more consistent - hasnt happened yet

We were walking and saw it go by - will be a very nice surprise!

Sorry if i sounded like ranting about the transportation. We stand as well and catch the first bus for our park.

After all this time the system for buses on time and rider capacities the buses are still the best way to go - just gotta add an extra hour to from in the plans - for the just in case - we were late for our first three adr dinner even with the hour adjustment.

Thanks to everyone esp andre and venom!

I ended up taking my chances on chk in - got the acadian house and can stay through my two ressies.

Walk in registration was shorter than online ch in line

Fridge in my room!
Saw a turtle at the mill!

Half way though the trip and dont want to leave!!! No no no we wont go!

All is well is riverside!
