Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2013, Part Three (NOW CLOSED, see 2014 thread)

Hi! I have a question...we are staying at POR checking in on 1/18. We are 2 adults and 3 children, ages 4,6,8. What is the process to request and certain room and what should I request for us? We are garden view room also. I love the idea for 2 windows and want to be close to the bus transportation.

See the FAQ in the first post for how to make room requests, or for a more detailed discussion try www.portorleans.org/room-requests.php.

For your family size (5) you will be in the Alligator Bayou section by the way, in case that affects what requests you wish to make. Personally, I think a corner room in buildings 16 or 17 would suit you fine. Maybe ask for ground floor too, as there are no elevators in that area.

Still not seeing the bus order on the fan website and that's how I chose our room location...lol.

From the Bus and Transportation Section of portorleans.org Per Andre, please take the below as sort of a guideline instead of hard and fast rules. The buses can be unpredictable.

Port Orleans Riverside Bus Stops

The main (South Depot) bus stop at Port Orleans Riverside is located on the right as you exit from the Sassagoula Steamboat Company main building, just outside the rear exit of Fultons General Store.

There are three further bus stops located around the Sassagoula Circle perimeter road:

The first is the West Depot, serving Alligator Bayou Lodges 24-26 and 28-35.
The second stop is the North Depot, serving Alligator Bayou Lodges 36-39 and also Acadian House.
The final stop is the East Depot, which is located behind Magnolia Terrace and also serves the garden-facing rooms of Oak Manor.
The other buildings are probably best served by the main South Depot but please check the resort map to see which stop would be closest for your particular room.

Note: generally the early morning buses departing from the South Depot do not then continue on to service the East, North and West Depots, instead heading straight onward to their destination. Other buses will serve the outer three Depots. After 10:30am, all of the resort buses follow the entire route starting at French Quarter, then going around all four Riverside Depots in turn before heading on to their final destination. This can have an impact on overall journey times.

That info is not the most up to date page on the site, I'm just not quite sure how to re-write it to give meaningful advice as the bus system is not always predictable. I've had a new draft for a while, but not uploaded it yet.

In short, there are no rules, only guidelines.

Stayed at POR Nov 18-23rd. Didnt have a fridge the 18th or 19th but on the 20th one was there and cold when we got back from the parks. It was neat to get there with no decorations and one day they just magically appeared (like the fridge!). We booked a standard mansion room and got a corner room in Magnolia Terrace (8778) facing a courtyard, which we considered an upgrade. The white bed looked fine but will look even better with the runner if it looks anything like the pillow. We had no problems with the bands or the refillable cups (we were on the dining plan); in fact, we loved them both! My parents loved the coffee in the food court; I liked the hot chocolate and the multiple tea flavors. FYI, apparently there is a glitch in the system because on our Epcot day I noticed that the fastpass+ times that I had previously cancelled remained on there (which means that day we got multiple fastpass+ for multiple rides!). As for the buses, they were hit or miss. Sometimes the service was great (multiple buses at once) and other times we had to wait a while(30 minutes once but more like 10 minutes the other times). The MK and Epcot buses were often full but the DHS and Animal Kingdom buses werent. Maybe that was because it seemed that the buses went to POFQ after POR for those two parks, whereas the POFQ ppl already seemed to be on the buses for MK and Epcot? Dunno. Also, something weird...we were at the bus stop between Oak Manor and Magnolia Terrace (east?) and it did not show Epcot in the list of buses that would come to the bus stop. I had to assure multiple ppl multiple times that an Epcot bus would definitely stop there. They did not believe me until the bus actually did, lol. As for the boats to DTD, those were great; definitely a plus. The grounds were very pretty also.

Other than the fact that it was too hot (85!) and rained a couple of days off and on, it was great.

We stayed at Magnolia Terrace too. We were there the 14th to the 23rd as we'll!! We actually stayed in room 8785. Right at the top of the curved staircase! It was a beautiful resort!! We never really had to wait long for a bus at the East depot...it was coming back from a park since it was usually the second last stop....lol

We are in Oak Manor. Just passed a room with a runner. We don't have one yet. Hope we get one tomorrow before we check out Thursday so I can get a pic.

Just did online checking this morning for trip in Jan! Woo hoo!! Just 60 days! Can't wait! Solo trip. Peaceful trip with no expectations of time or events. I requested corner room / top floor, but they can put me in the basement for all I care ;)

So if I'm reading everything right the bus stop order is: FQ first, followed by South Depot and so on? right?

I'm staying at POR in a preferred room...which means Alligator Bayou. I've stayed in Magnolia Bend rooms before and really liked it, but I'm a little concerned about the "rustic" feel of AB. I'd appreciate any opinions or reviews you might have about these rooms. Thanks in advance!

It depends. There is no order that is set in stone. I've stayed at both POFQ and POR multiple times, and there is no set bus route. Sometimes the buses from POFQ stop at POR. Sometimes they don't. Sometimes the buses at POR start the loop around the resort at the South Depot, sometimes they don't.

That's what we liked about CBR and CSR...there are set bus pickups and it makes choosing a location so much easier :thumbsup2

Not sure about CSR as we've never stayed, but the order does vary at CBR too. It depends on which entrance the bus uses. If it's the back/side entrance, Jamaica is first. If the front entrance, Martinique is first.

when we were at CBR 2 years ago it was one way only and it always started at Trinidad north that's why I chose the preferred location there.

That just goes to show that the order is not set. After 4 stays, we've never had a bus stop at Trinidad North first.

I think I'm just going to book a royal room and hope for the best with the busses:)

Sometimes I think we over-analyse stuff (and yes, I'm just as guilty of this as anyone else).

Disney tell us there should be a bus for each park within 20 minutes or so. That's all. They specifically don't say what exact route it will take, what other stops it may make and in what order... or indeed what the driver's name is. These things can all vary depending on local circumstances at the time. Yes there are guidelines and patterns, but nothing is set in stone.

Our mindset when we were waiting for the buses is that it would be what it would be. Nothing you could do to change it and there was definitely another bus coming so we just waited patiently...well, for the most part! LOL Besides, if we showed that we were annoyed, the kids would pick on it and then you'd have to listen to their whining and questions.
