To start this will be myself and my husbands first times as parents and adults to Disney! Haven't been in over 10 years! We are hoping to travel in December 2015. Looking at the first or second week. We will be taking our daughter who will be 3.5 yrs and my mother is also attending. As a child always stayed at POR, hubbies fam always rented houses near by.

My mom is dead set on staying at POR as always have, however I was really debating on all star movie due to the obvious cost and wanting to spend the money elsewhere on the trip. We will be staying 8 days 7 nights.

Any suggestions? Pros and cons of either?

Thanks in advance!!

We are similar to your family. Stayed Pop last year and liked it but want to experience the difference if any bw value and mod. I'm ruling out POR because it is the more expensive of the mods for our dates. CSR and CBR are similar price and CBR is more appealing kid and theme wise to me but CBR is not fully updated to queen beds...... I am obsessing over easy WDW reviews of the resorts.

I love POR.....it was my first WDW resort, back when it was DxL! Just stayed there again last month, and still love it. But, if you want a less expensive resort, I would look at Pop...love it there too. I would suggest AoA, in a family suite, but that is probably the same cost as POR.

They first two time I went as a child it was Dixie landings as well!! Times have certainly changed!

We've only stayed at ASMv and POR so know the difference in experience all too well.

IF saving money is the key, then it seems a no-brainer to go with ASMv. But do you plan to spend all your time at teh parks, or do you plan to relax at teh resprt some...if parks only, then again ASMv is the winner. But if you hope for pool-time, resort time, then POR is a much better choice.

And then there is the bed sizes, POR is all queen beds now I believe (somone correct me if mistaken) while ASMv just has doubles...for us this is critical with a teen DD who needs her own bed, DW and I can't share anything smaller than a Queen and not end up with one of us on the floor.

As for the family suites at AoA someone suggested, i think those are even more than POR...I priced them for our trip and at least for us, it was cheaper to do a moderate than a family suite.

Have stayed at ASMv and the resort is good theming. Big difference with POR are:
1. bed sizes
2. slides at pool for POR
3. More bus stops at POR then just one central
4. Great choices at quick service with ice cream, beniets, po boys, etc.
5. POR has boat to and from DTD

If no time at resort and looking to save money you can't go wrong with value.

Can check out allears.net for more information on each.

POR is beautiful. Expensive, but worth it to us.

I am a cheap date, but the value resorts remind me of an old Howard Johnson's motel - with a few garish decorations added. Not how I want to spend my rare vacation days.

Offsite is a much nicer deal. We enjoy Bahama Bay Resort.

Unless something has changed, the beignets are only over at POFQ, not POR.

To the OP, only thing that would make me lean towards a value, besides cost, in your situation, is the age of your child. POR has a great pool (and slide) is convenient to food court etc. But if you won't be making use of those, then maybe a value is a way to go. Otherwise the boats to DTD, YeeHaw Bob at the RiverRoost lounge, the great grounds and queen beds certainly make POR more appealing. My favorite moderate.

Depending on the discounts available, the actual cost difference for us between value and mod has never been very much so it always seems worth it to me to upgrade to POR. Its so peaceful and quiet there. The values can be crazy busy and noisy with large groups of kids. The rooms are larger and nicer too.

Yes, they are open in December. When we went last January however, they were closed because it was too cold- the highs were only around 45 degrees. So as long as the weather is good, the pool is open.

I have stayed at both and POR would be my choice by far. They are two totally different resorts. Riverside is just more relaxing, with more amenities and awesome pools. The foodcourt at POR is one of the best on property IMO. I just can't go back to the "loud" atmosphere at the values after staying at Port Orleans for the first time back in 2007... I really felt like I was on vacation at that resort and we have been back 3 times and 2 stays at POFQ. The rooms also make a big difference. The beds are more comfy at the mods. We also think the price jump isn't huge to go from value to mod so its a no brainer for us to stick with it.. its nothing like the difference going to a deluxe. We also love the boat to DTD. The grounds are beautiful and you really gave me that feeling that i was on vacation and immersed in that bubble! :beach:

I was also going to say.. Not sure if you are looking to do the dining plan. It is usually offered around that time for free. But they excluded ASMv and both Port Orleans this year. Unless you get a pin code, as POR was included in the pin only. I can see this happening again in the future with these resorts. Just wanted to put it out there.
