I would book the preferred category if it's available and request ground floor.
It is in AB but closer to the front. I would also call and let them know he has certain needs in a room.

Good luck

Thanks for your response. It doesn't look like the preferred is available. They only category that comes up is "garden view". Also, I'm thinking we really can't even take a chance on stairs. I think he would be better off walking a little farther distance than trying to deal with stairs. Are any of the mansions close?

Oak Manor is very close, as well as Magnolia Terrace.

We stayed at Riverside when it was Dixie Landings back in 1992. I just booked 2 rooms in eary Jan. (jan. 6th) for a few nights. Our daughter was accepted into the Disney College Program and we all want to go down a few days to get her settled and enjoy the parks before she officially starts. Anyway.... she was 21 months old when we stayed there and today she is 21 so it is kind of nostalgic staying here again. :cloud9:

So is there a GOOD chance we will NOT get a refurb room in Jan.? Is there a section I can request to hopefully get one? I really wanted queen beds. We are booked in a garden view category. Can anyone suggest a area to request that has the refurb completed? I am also wondering if because we did get a discount if they will just put us in a older room. We used the discount at Poly a couple of years ago and we were farrrrrrrrrrrrrr away from the main bldg. :rotfl: We kind of thought that was the reason.

We were not far from the dining area when we stayed there last time. It has been a longgggggggggggg time so I have no idea how big this resort is. How long a walk from the furtherst bldg. is it to the main bldg.?

Does this resort share a bus stop with POFQ?

How far a walk is it to the FQ side?

THANKS SO MUCH for your help. :)

The later you go, the better chance you have of getting a refurbed room.

You can check out the schedule on this thread or on portorleans.org.

At busy times of days, buses are shared at POFQ and POR.

It is about a ten minute to fifteen minute walk over to POFQ, from POR, depending on your starting and stopping point.

Hey fellow Michiganders....Where are you from?

I'm from Tecumseh...In Lenawee county.

That was the most stressfull game ever! I'm so glad they're heading home now!

Sterling Heights in the house!!

18 days and counting!!

Oh my goodness! Where is this gazebo? I have stayed at POR once before, but due to extenuating circumstances, didn't get to see much of the resort aside from our immediate area.

But that is beautiful. I must find it when I'm there....next month!!!! :dance3:

Found it, It is right between the two western arms of Magnolia Building seen below thanks to Google Earth. (RED CIRCLE)

Yes I agree...Where is this? Please do a Print screen of POR in Google earth and let us know where on that screen shot it is. Very pretty spot!

The Gazebo is in the front of Magnolia Terrace, just off the main walkway.
You can see it coming from Old Man Island towards the mansion buildings.

Yeah I had found it right after replying, thanks. I even put up a G'Earth of it. Thanks though I just wasn't sure if I would have found it.

I took one of those collapsible/hanging shelf hanger things and it worked really well.

YOU ARE BRILLIANT!!!! i use these at home to get add'l shelf space but never thought to bring them w/me on vacation!! I LOVE THIS IDEA!!! THANK YOU!!!
:thumbsup2

Just saw on another thread that one resort (sorry can't remember which one) now has single pod coffee makers in the rooms. I'm going to be at POR the end of Nov and planned on bringing my own coffee and filters. Anyone know if the refurbished rooms still have the 4-cup pots or did they switch?

Hey guys!
My MIL had back surgery a year ago, and says she probably wouldn't be able to sleep in a double. We are going in 45 days- do you guys think that with her back surgery and such we'd be able to request a queen bed room? I don't mind sleeping in a double, but she is just adamant about it, apparently.
Also, the queen rooms have a fold out couch still, right?
Thanks!

<3 seeing the pics of the rooms and property!!! Thanks for sharing!!

Question: Are corner rooms larger than others or do they just have the extra window? Are they considered 'preferred'? Just wondering as I am about to call with room requests and want to try to swing as much as I can! THANKS!!!

I don't believe they are anything special class or anything. They are the same size space to the room just extra window.

Just got back Sunday night. We were in Acadian House, which has been refurbished of course... room 8239. Be careful of the toilet, it thinks it's a bidet. :goodvibes Close to the bus stop. Nice location, if a nice walk to the food court.

The room was great! We had a king bed & the room was so much better than the one we had at Parterre Place. It really needed updating.

Still love this resort. :lovestruc

That would be sweet. We love our k-cup machine! I would definitly love to find out the possibility of this?

That is too funny about the toliet. I had one before the refurb there that liked to do that in the parterre building. Glad you got what you wanted from your visit there and made it there and back safely. I had never been up into that part of the resort where the Arcadia building is, was it nice and quiet?

None of the rooms have couches; the AB rooms have a trundle bed that slides out from under the bed.

You can find the number over at the disabilities board to call regarding her surgery, but having a full sized bed over a queen sized bed seems more like preference and not because of surgery; I am not sure if they will give you a refurbed room due to that.

But it doesn't hurt to ask.

If we got a room with a trundle, do you think instead of the trundle, there would be room for us to inflate our own double sized air mattress? That way we could give MIL a full twin bed to herself? She's saying she 'can't' sleep in a double bed with FIL without straining her back. But this way she could have her own bed, FIL and DD could sleep in one bed, and then DH and I in the air mattress and DS *hopefully* in his pack in play. (He uses a toddler bed, so it should be interesting!)

6 nights in the same room as MIL. Let's hope that We run ourselves hard so I pass out super quick every night!

It was Wilderness Lodge that has switched. I'm not taking any chances with my coffee lol - I take my own coffee maker and coffee :p
