Off topic...does the refrigerator hold a half gallon of milk? Also, do we have to worry about the milk freezing? Last year our water bottles froze in the fridges at CSR. TIA!

Yes and no. We were in two different rooms on our recent stay at POR. The first couldn't fit a half gallon but the second could. It goes on the door of the fridge.

So you guys are killing me with these pictures; I cannot wait to go on my trip this year.

I talked to my neighbor Holly last night and her husband, Alex, is four weeks to the day to come home from Afghanistan. She said he wants me to be the first person he hugs when he gets home, for the great vacation I set them up with. My mom keeps teasing me that I am getting too good at snagging people some great vacations. :lmao:

So I for one, was very heartbroken when they closed Boatwright's for breakfast. I would either have a ham and cheese omelet or the sweet potato pancakes. The omelets were always lite and fluffy, and those pancakes with the syrup and honey butter were to die for.

However, when they opened the "make-your-own" omelet station at the food court, I was again a happy camper. A cheese, ham, pepper and onion omelet with home fries and a croissant is my new favorite breakfast at POR every morning.

I need to ask this, those of you that take DSLR cameras how many batteries do you typically take for your trip?

The Nikon D3100 and D5100 both have a Lithium Ion battery pack, you just bring your recharger. I got 350 shots befroe I needed to recharge the battery.
I imagine the comparable Canons would have rechargeable battery packs as well.

Thought about a second pack or would i need it?

I usually take a lot of batteries, but I take a lot of pictures.

Last year, I took enough to always have some charging in the room while the others were in my backpack.

Yeah I am still taking my "Point and Shoot" one as back up. But I am not sure if I need two or maybe three battery packs for the camera?

webstah has the 3100, I am wondering if they will tell me how many shots to expect on average from their camera, then Ill know how many batts Ill need.

It is more the size of your memory card and your settings.

I first got mine for my Sony - 2G - and was disappointed that I was only coming up with about the same as my 1G. No wonder, the thing was set at maximum pixels and 8 x 10 pictures.

When I changed it to the normal pixel rate and 4 x 6's, it went up to 1200 pics.

I was looking at two 32GB cards. But I am curious to how long the batteries will last without the use of flash.

I only have the one battery, and took 350 shots before I needed to charge it.
I have had the camera since April, and only charged the battery 4 times.
I have an 8 gb memory card that was about 1/4 full with around 360 pictures, so that would equate to around 1200 pictures, with the camera set at the maximum resolution for shots. If I dropped it down, I'd get a lot more pictures on the card.
I charged the camera on Thursday before we left, and didn't need to charge it again until the next Thursday.
If you use the LED screen alot, or take movies, that will eat up your batteries as well. If you're nervous about how you will use the camera, and want to make sure you don't run out, after you get it, take it outside and shoot as many shots as you can until the batteries drained. I couldn't do it the first few days I had the camera, but I didn't take thousands of pictures either.

Yeah it was getting very pricey for what I am trying to accomplish here. I almost got a sticker shock.

I always carry a spare battery with me (a clone rather than Canon's own) and both the spare and my main batt are always fully charged. I think I've only ever needed to use it once, but why take the risk?

I use a second battery for my camcorder a lot more - don't want it cutting out in the middle of a 25 minute show like World of Color.

Now, much as I like cameras, could I gently suggest that we get back on topic please...? (We could start a topic over in the photography forum if you like)

One more thing I remember from the trip.
On Tuesday, Sept 6th, they closed the pool between Magnolia Terrace and Acadian House for refurb. Apparently they are looking at making all the quiet pools at least, a maximum 4 ft depth.

They come with a lithium ion battery. You can buy an extra or a battery grip. A battery grip is a piece that attaches to your camera and is run by AA batteries. It also makes the camera larger in your hands which some people enjoy. A typical battery will get you 300-400 shots. The higher priced you go on the slr ladder the longer the battery lasts usually. Its tough now a days because they also do video. Good luck on your decision.

I'm so sorry. I went away from this thread for awhile and forgot what I posted. We did a split stay at Grand Floridian and have been over there for a little bit. I'll try to look closer next time. :thumbsup2
