Didn't see you at POR  Because you have your pic by your name, I looked while I was around the resort at pool or food court!

Didn't the big round black ears give me away? Don't know who the little human standing beside me is though... :)

Actually, I think it might have been slightly scary if someone rushed up to me and said I recognise you from your photo... LOL

as soon as we crossed the bridge from China to the outpost, the skies literally opened up, and steams were running down the walkways.

Oddly enough that always seems to happen to us in China, it's pretty much a family tradition now.

Here's a few pics from an early morning walk last week.
Part of why we love this resort.

I posted this on a separate thread, but realized it should also be here as well. We loved POR, and are booked for next year's bounceback offer.

We stayed at POR from 8/26-9/3 in the AB section (we're a party of 5). We loved the resort!

1) Checked in around 1:00 on Friday with only a 5 minute wait - only one person ahead of us. Room wasn't ready, which was fine, since I knew check-in wasn't for a couple hours. Got the call about 45 minutes later that the room was ready.
2) We got our request of corner room, first floor. We were in building 39, room 3929, overlooking a very small pond. There were lots of trees blocking our view, but it was very nice. Loved having the extra window! Room was in good shape, and upon arrival, we had mickey ears towel animal on the bed. Also had a cute anniversary message on our phone from Mickey and Minnie, which was a nice touch.
3) Never used the trundle bed, so can't comment on that. My daughter is 3, so she just slept in a pack and play, which fit great in the bathroom area, under the closet.
4) Location was fine. It was a bit of a walk to the food court, but it's along the river which is beautiful. Didn't even bother to time it, b/c it really wasn't a big deal.
5) Shop was great and had a nice selection of everything.
6) Went to both the quiet and main pool. I will say the first night at the quiet pool, it was FILTHY! Heard a bunch of people complaining how badly it needed to be skimmed. Did get fixed I noticed later in the week. Nice size though, and my kids had fun. Just remember to bring your own towels to this pool b/c none are provided for you there. There are towels though at the big pool - which was a lot of fun. My boys loved the slide, and kept going down it. We only spent about an hour or so all week at the pools, but I could definitely see us spending more time there in the future. It's also adjacent to a nice pool bar, and a small walk over a bridge to the main area.
7) Food court was good. I honestly thought Pop Century had a better selection, but POR was still fine. I think I just had trouble with what I ordered. I had a roast beef and blue cheese sandwich the first night, which I found very tough, and then a ham sandwich, which i didn't care too much for. My DH liked the pasta bar, and the kids loved the ice cram station. Did love the cherry coke and golden peak iced tea!
8) Everyone was very nice. The last night we were there, I went in to pack up cereals for the long car ride home. None were out, but a super sweet cashier went in the back and got whatever I needed.
9) Watch out for the golf carts - seriously - they're lunatics. On every walk, at least 4 or 5 would come zooming by - I was always a nervous wreck
10) Boat ride to downtown is wonderful - did it a couple times. I will say though if you're in a rush, you may be better with the bus. Didn't realize until they mentioned it, but the boat ride is just under 1/2 hour. One day we were meeting family at Downtown, and realized we would have been better driving.
11) Buses were great, except one morning for AK - think it was a Thursday. We actually after waiting a while, and hearing others who had been there longer complaining, decided to just drive. Other than that, never more than a 5 minute wait. Sometimes it was standing room only, but we were fine with that.
12) Can't get over how close MK and Epcot was - going that back way to MK really saves time - was either right under or right around 10 minutes, as was Epcot.
13) Didn't go see the piano guy at all, but when we walked past, everyone seemed to be having a great time, and it definitely seemed a lot of fun. Also, didn't eat at Boatright's.
14) Laundry was fine - did it Thursday night around 10:30 - was plenty of washers - 1/2 hour time - and plenty of dryers. Dryers are not the 30 minutes they say - was closer to 50 minutes. Split up the load, so had no trouble with everything being dry.
15) Walked over to POFQ one night, and it was a beautiful walk along the river. We've stayed there before. I loved POFQ then too - POR had an edge though for us, besides of course being the only one we can stay at, I really loved the grounds. I loved AB section - it was so unbelievably lush and rustic which is right up my alley.
16) We had no problem with the a/c except my daughter kept shutting it off. Other than that, it continued to go on all night, and the ceiling fan also helped.
17) Resort is very quiet, except as always for the inconsiderate parents that let their kids go screaming down the walkways at midnight. Never fails.
18) Did feel like we encountered a lot of smoke this trip, but as someone mentioned, they really need to put the designated areas in other places. The benches were set up along the walkway to the food court, so you were constantly walking in a smoke fog. Not their fault, Disney needs to find better areas.
19) Mousekeeping was great - best I've ever had. Did towel animals or cute things with my kids' animals almost every night. We tipped every night as well.
20) Booked bounceback for next year! POR is our cheapest alternative with our family size, and I'm very happy being there. We are really not in the room all that match, so I personally wouldn't justify paying for riverview, unless you could get the mansions - that view looked awesome if you're the type to take advantage of it.

Any questions, I'd be glad to answer.

Also, last time we were at disney we left Mousekeeping a tip and most days they never took it. Where should we lay the tip in the room to make sutr they take it? This time I am going to decorate some envelopes for the holidays with MouseKeeping in big letters, but I was curious to see where everyone left their tips.

Wow! Mousekeeping not taking tips. That's a first. Last time we were there (@cbr not por) we left a tip for mousekeeping and also left a tip for person who was delivering a cake for dgd's birthday . Mousekeeping took both tips. One said mousekeeping, and the other said Cake delivery tip. So you must have had it where they couldn't see it. In all the years we have gone we have never had a problem with mousekeeping not taking their tips.:upsidedow
We usually leave the tip on table between beds or on table inside door.

Oddly enough that always seems to happen to us in China, it's pretty much a family tradition now.

Andre

We got lucky Friday night.
We were eating at Chefs de France, and during dinner, the skies opened up again, with lots of lightning, but it was over by the time dinner was done.

we just put the bills inside the folded card the mousekeeping leaves - usually on the end table

Loved those last pictures that were posted! It really looks like a beautiful resort. We will get to check it out in person in March. Our first on-site stay ever out of more than a dozen trips.

Could not be more excited!!!:banana::banana:

Counting down the days. Keep your recent photos and reviews coming!! :cheer2:

Love the pictures as well. Very nice fountain and bridge shot.

Some addtional pictures I took. You can see I had the same problem as KCMike with the lens fogging up, but I liked the effect.

As promised, I finely have the time to post some pictures of our room. The pictures I took of the refurbished room are the same as the ones that were already posted. So I'll show you some pictures of our room view...

Picture of our room number. (I took this one because I knew I would have my camera with me and might not remember our room number)

We had a great time during our entire trip. I case you were wondering we payed for a water view with a request for a room at Acadia House. I'd say we were upgraded to a river view room.

Next year with the bouceback promotion we booked 5 nights at POP. Only because our style was go go go from rope-drop until the cleaning crew kicked us out of the park every night (not what I planed but this is what we did and worked good for us). If I can get a good rate or PIN # before we book our plane tickets we would like to go to POR again for a few days of R&R before we have to go home.

 We got stuck in Japan in Aug. Good thing they have lots to look at!

We got stuck under an umbral at a small table in America not much to look at but we did need a much needed rest at that time and it let up in time to make our ADR in Japan. I called it a dash of pixy dust because I'm not sure we would have stopped going otherwise. It would not have looked to good DD and myself falling asleep while our chef cooked in front of us at Teppan Edo.

Just out of curiosity...what do you guys usually need to go get? We have always driven from Charleston, but we are about to move to Nashville, so will be flying. We usually bring packets of oatmeal, drinks, a few snacks since we drive. I assumed I could still fit those in a suitcase for the plane. Wasn't planning on needing to go to a store. Am I forgetting something?

ETA: You know what I would like to get there is a chair of some sorts to sit out in the walkway while the kids nap. Maybe we could start a chair swap for all the folks who fly! :)

We always go on either our arrival day or the next day and get snacks, drinks, and alcohol. We usually end up getting too much, but getting too much at Target is still a lot cheaper than buying snacks at Disney. We buy:
water
a few diet coke's for when we're too lazy to get our mugs refilled, the food court is already closed, or for mixed drinks in the room
juice
cheese
grapes
apples/oranges
chips/petezels/etc
usually some 100 cal snack packs, granola bars, etc for the room and the backpack to the parks
wine
champagne
a small bottle of Captain Morgan's or something similar
sometimes microwave popcorn
food and snacks for our son

My husband and son both have to eat gluten free, so even though disney is great about it we still like to have snacks and drinks on hand that we know they can eat.

We still end up buying things at the resort, but not as much. We spend at least one night watching Bob Jackson, and get a few drinks and snacks then. We also eat at the food court, the snacks are just for evenings in the room, to take to the parks etc...

Invaiably I have to run out at least once more for something. Once I got a lot of bites of some type and had to get bandaids, benadryl, etc. It almst becomes ridiculous, but I'll just say "I'll run to target". Once we got snacks and then saw a chipotle and brought lunch back to our room.

Loved the pictures!!! You got some really beautiful shots. The one of the bridge and the reflection of the trees on the river was just gorgeous. :lovestruc

That's why we love POR!

We will be at Riverside on Tuesday and leaving on the morning of the 25th. We will have a duffle bag with left over food, bathroom supplies ect.. I had posted on the budget board for the Port Orleans swap and I guess the thread is dead because noone responded. So if someone is coming in on the 24th or 25th and would like our leftovers, just let me know.

i'm not familiar w/food/sundries swaps... can you direct me to the thread?

Wow! Great pics. Glad you had a good time after things got sorted out. I haven't gotten a chance to take my photos off my camera yet, so you're ahead of me, and I have no idea how to post them either :rotfl:
But I loved my room in Acadian House. The new rooms are beautiful. And we got upgraded to pool view. A perfect location very close to the bridge over to Old Man Island.

We did go visit the fishing hole one morning out of curiosity, not to fish but just to look around. Got into a conversation with the guy who runs it. Very interesting man, who told us lots of POR history about past hurricanes there, since we didn't know at the time what Irene would do! Very peaceful spot.

So glad you had a great trip! It was nice to finally get some summer wasn't it? I'm looking forward to seeing a few pictures from you.....here is the link I used to help me figure out how to get my pictures out there:http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1947588 Good luck!

Usually we pick up bottles of water for the parks (waaaay cheaper), a gallon of milk for cereal in the mornings if we don't feel like going to the food court, cereal, assorted fresh fruit, some sort of adult ;) beverage for those evenings spent sitting by the river after the kids settle to sleep, and some snacky things.

This year we also got a couple of those collapsible camping chairs from Walmart for only $10 each. We spent a lot of evenings sitting by the path next to the river waiting for the girls to settle for sleep while enjoying the view. POR doesn't seem to have a lot of benches along the river so this worked out great for us. Even though our DDs are 8 and 10, we still bring our baby monitor just for this purpose. It's nice to have a little adult quiet time too. We just left the chairs in our room when we checked out.....a chair swap would be a great idea!
