Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

I have uploaded a few more of my pictures (quality is not good since the room was dark). I keep looking at the previous pictures I posted (room with light on) and the more I look, the more I think it may be an accessible room. As I said before it was on the 2nd floor of Acadian House and I did see a few more rooms with that same configuration.

Here are the "dark" room pictures (again I apologize for the quality) but it does appear that the entry way to the bath area is larger than the room with the pictures with the light on:

And again for comparison purposes the pictures of the room that had the light on:

Hope this helps some. Maybe someone else will post some better pictures. :)

Not that you can see a ton, but I think they have more of a classic, chic look to them than before. Plus I'm not sure why people are comparing them to French Quarter,,,they have a different theme! It makes sense the FQ ones are more mardi gras themed, a little bit more elaborate and ritzy looking! Compared to the working well to do south that was plantations and river boat themed at Riverside Mansions,,,and then Alligator Bayou being the backwaters! Can't wait to see more pics and really can't wait to be there myself!!

I have two countdowns and they scroll, so that might be the confusion. We're staying at AKV in October and then heading to POR for free dining in March.

You'll have to give a full report when you return!

Very nice! We always stay in the mansion section, but last time we got off the bus at the furthest AB stop just to walk around and explore. Both sides are just beautiful. Almost there!

Yeah of course I will be taking lots of photos of our room, unless they mess up, overbook the room, then they will move us to the POLY. Yes I will get that if they mess up, I promise!

i've seen you assert that a few times in this thread... almost like you hope they screw up so you can get a deluxe for a mod price... LOL!

and from someone who has seen the occasional screw up with resort rooms, don't get your heart set on getting the poly even if something does go awry... it just doesn't always work that way... they can, and do, tell guests NO to unreasonable or even reasonable requests/demands (like if i don't get the room or view i want, even paid for, i will be upgraded to a higher grade resort) all the time... at best you will be offered a comparable resort (i.e. POFQ or CSR) and at worst, you can be downgraded to a value (yep, it can happen!)... just hope you are not downgraded to a tent site! :rotfl:

my advice is that if you really want to stay at the poly, book the poly... if it means a longer wait 'til vacation or a shorter vacation, but it's the resort that will make your trip most magical, then it's worth the wait/cost/etc... it's not a dreamy magical vacation if you have to "settle" kwim?

Oh my frick'in God... Those were awesome.

Do you think you'd have your option of Doom Buggy (2 queen beds) or The Widow suite (for the king sized bed)?

I particularly liked the Mickey cartoon that was on the TV. I used to have 1 of those cartridge loaded, hand cranked viewer-scopes, and that was one of the cartoons that I had for it. Another 1 was when Goofy was driving the camper down the mountain, then he, Mickey and Donald lose control of the car.

I miss that toy.

I had one of those with the same two cartridges! I use to love how you could go forward or backward with it and control how fast or slow Mickey and the gang would move. It was really exciting when Walt would show those cartoons Sunday night on the Wonderful World of Disney it was weird seeing them with sound.

When I first saw the concept picture I knew I knew the cartoon but forgot about viewer-scope. Thank you for my trip down memory lane.

I know, but it is nice to hope lol. But here is what we really are doing. Are reservation currently is for that royal guest river view room. But if they come out with a promotion before it gets too late offering a discount applicable to are stay at a deluxe aka the poly. Then we will move over there. But if not we will have a great time exploring a new room, taking pics, and uploading back to you all as soon as we check in all while having a magical time!

I do understand it would be crazy to move over to a poly from there if there was no discount and at that not paying a difference. So yeah I do have common sense, just dreaming. But thank you, you put it very nicely. Hope they don't tent me either! Have a great night Gigi!

Anybody nervous about bed bugs here? I've stayed once and we didn't have any problems. I also have a hard time sleeping the first night or two at a hotel. But, now, some people are saying they don't feel the bites till their 5th or 6th night. :confused3 Anyway, on the bedbug registry site, there aren't any listed if you type in Port Orleans, but if you type in Walt Disney World and then click on that and go down, you will find POR. There are some from this year. Ick! Just a reminder to check your room well. Hopefully we'll all have a bug free trip!

My family of 5 will be staying in November 2011. I believe we will have to be in the Alligator Bayou section b/c we have 5 in a room. Will any of those rooms be refurbished by Nov? I was hoping for queens beds and wanted to know what building I should request and whether it's worth it to upgrade to a preferred location.

My family and I stayed at the Port Orleans Riverside resort from May 29th-June 6th. No bedbugs!!Upon arrival I did a check of the room (as I always do)and found no problems. We have been staying on the Disney property for the past 6 years and have never had an issue. It's a good idea to check the bed, headboard area, the sheets and blankets just to make sure, my suggestion is that you should do this at any hotel you stay at not just Disney hotels. We had a wonderful vacation and will be sure to stay on property again.

I liked building 14, it was a short walk to the main bus depot and main building.

we'll be there Nov '11 also and none of the AB rooms will be done by then... someone posted the refurb sched a few pages back for me... check it out :)

(and yeah, i've gotta change my ticker... we opted for POR w/more days and DxDDP over BWI when FD came out)

Yeah according to that schedule, portorleans.org, none of the AB rooms will be done by then. But the will be working on them October 25, taking 8weeks to finish. :(

So once the Royal Rooms open, how crowded do you think it will make POR? POR is always my first choice to stay at and frankly I have no interest in the Royal rooms. I'm just concerned that if we try to go during the first year the rooms are open, the Royal rooms could be sold out with the overflow people who couldn't get royal rooms still deciding to stay at POR, thus making the resort crowded. Did the pirate rooms at CBR make much of an impact on occupancy levels when they first opened? are they getting the same hype?

Not to worried because We get what we paid for nothing less. Not worried about occupancy, I mean it's Disney world.
