Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

This is not always the case. We stayed at POFQ last year and there were several occasions where, on the return from the parks, the bus drove past POFQ and went to all the POR bus stops before finally stopping at POFQ! When this happened, it took at least an extra 20-30 minutes to get "home" to POFQ. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it....sometimes POFQ was first stop when we shared the bus and sometimes it was the last.
I've experienced that as well.

Good morning all!

I have just joined the thread, and want to thank everyone for their helpful information! Especially to Andre, your website has been so helpful!

KCMike, I truly love your pictures!

That leads me to a question. All of you have so much knowledge of this resort, I would like to ask for an opinion. I have booked POR for March (with free dining!!) and am now re-thinking my resort choice. The reason is DH and I stayed at CBR one year, and he did not like the layout of the resort because it was so large and had the multiple bus stops. Someone mentioned that POR and CBR are similar in layout, and that scares me. Is the resort truly that large and spread out? Also, the bus chatter makes me nervous.

I really want to stay here, but this is my husband's birthday trip and I want him to enjoy himself. I've been thinking of switching to POFQ because of the smaller size and accessibility, but with the charm of a moderate resort. Would this be a better choice for us?:confused3

I understand that these are strictly opinions, and will take them as such. Thank you all very much in advance for any help you can give.
One of the major differences between CBR and POR is that POR doesn't have a huge lake you need to manuever around.
I believe Andre had some info at one time that it didn't take more than 15 minutes to get to the main building from the furthest building out.
If you feel that it would be too much walking, then by all means consider POFQ. Alot of people like it because it is compact with less walking.
You can still use the amenities at POR as they are sister resorts, and are connected by a jogging path, as well as the ability to take the boat back and forth once it starts running for the day.

So, do you think the walk across 'Ol Man Island is not as far a distance to the food court as walking across the island at CBR? I thought the distance across the island at CBR was a little far. Trying to compare it to POR and get the distance in my head.

It is big and there are multiple bus stops. Its also beautiful - I think I'm grieving for it right now. POFQ is also nice and much smaller. I like the pool area at POR a lot better - its prettier, bigger and has a much longer slide. I also like the food court better at POR. You'll have to decide what's most important to you and DH. If multiple bus stops and a big layour are truly a problem for him, you might want to switch. Just look at lots of pictures of both resorts before you do :goodvibes.

Well I do agree to the idea someone else came up with about taking a bus to MK and then just hoping onto the Monorail to poly for Ohana. Still debating if we are going to see it ourselves we have seen a lot of bad reviews on that show.

Ohana's and the luau are different. Ohana's is like a Brazilian steak house with fun stuff for the kids. did it last year. Good times...

I think I measured (vie Google Earth) walking routes from the furthest points at POR, and the longest walk you could be from your room to the food court was only about 500 yards (from memory). Oddly, the furthest rooms at POFQ were actually about the same distance ISTR, but POFQ in general is more compact so there are less rooms so far out.

I just checked in online for my trip starting in 10 days...woo hoo!!!!!

I have a standard room booked, and when I checked in, there was no place to indicate a room preference. I have a family of 5, so we will be staying in AB. Can I still call to request a preferred room if available (buldings 14, 15, 16, or 18)? If so, what are the odds of me getting my request?

Is it worth the extra money to get the preferred rate now to give me piece of mind? I am there for 7 nights, so I am guessing it would be another $200 or so.

I loved my stay in 14. so if you want id request now over the phone if you want a specific room and see if it is available or even just get a building you want

This may seem like somwhat of a silly question, which I am hoping someone can answer for me. Does the main pool area at POR have a change room area?

29 days to go!!

This is the concept art of what could have been. While the royal rooms are great the haunted rooms would have been a must do for my family.

Oh my frick'in God... Those were awesome.

Do you think you'd have your option of Doom Buggy (2 queen beds) or The Widow suite (for the king sized bed)?

I particularly liked the Mickey cartoon that was on the TV. I used to have 1 of those cartridge loaded, hand cranked viewer-scopes, and that was one of the cartoons that I had for it. Another 1 was when Goofy was driving the camper down the mountain, then he, Mickey and Donald lose control of the car.

I miss that toy.
