Can anyone tell me about the refurb & the AB section?
We're going in December & would be in an AB room dues to being a family of 5 (6). Hoping for a refrubed room but wasn't really sure when those are going to be worked on & done?! :confused3

Also, my ODS refuses to sleep with either of the other older boys, so would a twin size air mattress fit in the room? He would be way too tall for the trundle bed I think.

I know River View rooms are in the mansion section, not sure if there are any in AB.

Hi everyone! I am staying for my first time at POR in October. I have visited there and walked around but never stayed. We are looking forward to it. We have stayed at all levels from value to deluxe but for some reason I am really looking forward to this one.

We were originally going to go preferred but we liked the mansion section a little better so we did a standard room and requested the magnolia building. I hope that it works but if not it will be ok. I understand nothing is guaranteed.

We are now wondering if we want to get a rental car. We have two rooms so for the price savings we had of changing to standard rooms we could get a rental mini van for our dates.

Did anyone stay at POR and wish they had a rental? We don't mind WDW transportation but I am thinking if I am really far from breakfast I could even drive! ;)

Also, how is the waterslide at POR? Like for instance compared to any of the other moderate slides.

TIA for any info!

You CAN do without a rental car. But, we DO enjoy having one, if only for a few days of our stay. A few of our stays, we've reserved to pick one up at the Car Care Center, and gotten it after we've been at the resort. We've gotten one at MCO, and dropped it off a few days later at the Car Care Center. I like knowing that I'm able to make a grocery run for snacks, beverages, and forgotten items. And, I'll make our sit-down resort restaurant ressies for the time we have the vehicle. So much easier than a series of buses to get somewhere. Like Boma. But, in March, we totally skipped the car. Used Garden Grocer to stock the room, and Fulton's for anything we ran out of. And used the buses at all times. We even made it to Boma that way. A lot less convenient than driving yourself, but it worked.
Enjoy POR~hope you get Magnolia Terrace, it's my favorite Mansion. Did not get to stay in it last trip--got stuck in Oak Manor, instead, much to my chagrin, but it turned out to be ok, for the most part.

We just returned (We left early.) from almost a week in Walt Disney World. In my almost 39 years, I've probably been to WDW 25 times, almost always staying on property. I know what to expect from WDW. This trip was a mess. Our room at POR was not even close to being clean. We stayed in the Bayou area. Upon arrival, I noticed several areas of the room that were dirty. I tried to deal with it, because I didn't want to be a complainer, but as the week went on and we discovered more filthy stuff, among other problems, I complained to the manager, Boris. Our ceiling fan had so much dust collected on it that I kept it on all week, just so I didn't have to look at the dust. The light fixtures and the corners of the ceiling in the sink area were also covered with thick dust. There was dust hanging from spots on the ceiling also. Our toilet only flushed about 30% of the time. That was lovely. Someone spilled some sort of dark beverage on the AC unit (who knows how long ago) and never bothered to clean it up. There was a large, dark stain on the floor right in front of the AC unit, along with stains all up the blinds that are over the unit. The outlets - well they were just bizarre. None of them would hold my outlet covers, which I thought was strange. When we tried to charge our cell phones overnight, we weren't able to get the charger plugged all the way into the wall. They would only go in about 2cm, and when we set them down, they unplugged themselves. The outlet in the bathroom area was the only one that we could plug something into, but we could only use one at a time. If we tried to use them both, the plug would reset itself and turn itself off. Even if the appliance/phone wasn't in use, it did it. (Example: the hairdryer couldn't be plugged in, even if it wasn't being used, when we were trying to charge our phones.) There was little to no internet signal from our room, although it seems like that happens every time we go to WDW. There was also a light bulb that was clearly out, in the sink area. No one bothered to change it while we were there. I was very disappointed in the hotel. Like I said, I wasn't going to say anything, but we kept discovering more and more. When I did finally speak to the manager, I was so upset, that I was in tears. He said the problems would be taken care of. The next day when we returned from the park, the toilet worked A LITTLE better and the fan had been cleaned - that's it.
The buses were a whole other issue. I guess POR must be the ghetto hotel or something because we could not get a bus to save our lives. I've been to WDW when it's been a lot busier and have never had the issues with the buses that I had this time. We'd see 3 or 4 buses at our bus stop going to other parks (the same park) before we'd see one bus going to our park on each particular day. And by the time the buses got to our stop, they'd already been to POFQ and the other POR bus stops, so they were usually full. We had 4 of our 5 kids with us, including a 2 year old, and a stroller, so standing wasn't a great option for us, although we did do it at times. Whenever we left a park where the POR and POFQ buses were separate, we'd wait 30-35 minutes for the POR bus. In that time, we'd usually see at least 3 buses go by for POFQ. (95% of the time, we just sucked it up and rode the FQ bus and walked to Riverside. And trust me, it was a LONG walk, esp when we'd been in the park for the day.) We took long breaks in the middle of the day to swim and do other stuff, so we had LOTS of experiences with the buses. When we left MK on Wednesday night, the line for the POR bus was so long, that it went past the bus stop for 2 other resorts at the MK bus depot!! It was crazy. The POFQ bus line had about 10 people in it, with a bus sitting there, so once again, we took that bus. Now I don't want people to think we didn't want to wait in line, because that is not the case. I have 5 children, so I know what patience is. The bus thing just got to be ridiculous. And it happened over and over again. We finally decided to drive into the park yesterday. One of the perks of staying on the property is the bus system, so not using it is a waste. We left today, 2 days earlier than we were supposed to leave. We still have unused tickets on our cards.
I am a HUGE fan of Disney. If I had it my way, we'd go 3x a year. Not anymore. I don't want to go back for SEVERAL YEARS. For the money that we spent there, the quality of our hotel and the service was very poor.

WOW, so sorry to hear this about your trip. I had the cleanliness issue last year at FW in the cabins. We were not given the fully accessbile cabin, and it was not cleaned very well. i had to look under the couch for a shoe, and it was filthy under there!! I did complain the day we left about not having the correct room and the cleanliness. One miserable lady said well you should have come down to change your cabin that day. By the time I realized we had no accessbile bathroom, the car was unloaded and we had drove from Jersey. It wasnt too much of a big deal since my daughter was happy with a regular bathroom and evern happier just to be in disney. the manager was finally brought out, and he said not much he could do since we were leaving, so he gave me park passes for one day good for 2 years. I thought that was nice. I am not one to complain but as you, I work hard all year to pay for this trip and for 275.00 a night i think i deserved a decent cabin. We are planning on POR Riverside for 08-12. now im re- thinnking....especially with the buses as my daughter uses her wheelchair for the parks....

33 days till POR :banana: Getting excited! And we leave for Florida in 2 weeks. Going to other places first, and saving the best for last :goodvibes

We have stayed at POR 2x before & this summer will be our 3rd. The first time the buses were a nightmare of epic proportions! The 2nd time we had our car & life was good. For us personally I can't stay at POR without a car or alot of patience. :goodvibes

Bad housekeeping can of course happen anywhere..the worst (for us) was at the Contemporary. The dirtest room we have ever encountered.

kristiethome13,
Sorry you had such a bad experience at POR, you spend too much $ at Disney to have all that happen.

Great shot. Looks so refreshing, I can't wait to go float around in Aug :thumbsup2

It has been in the high 90's and lower 100's here in KC the last few weeks. It's been awful. I wouldn't mind being in ol' man island either!
There's clouds in this river.

Sorry about your bad experience kristiehome. We had a year like that at POR a few years ago. The room was really bad, cms in the food court were rude, and the buses were horrible. Last year everything was perfect. Our room was clean and pretty (corner room), the buses seemed to come within 10 minutes every time and we rarely had to stand. The food court cms were gracious and the food was delicious. Who knows what happens :confused3. Both trips we were there 9-10 nights and the good or bad stuff was consistent.

We stayed at POR for a few days last year and I loved it!

I was looking through my pictures today and thought I would share some of my favorites.

DD and I are going to try the FQ this trip, but I can't wait to head back to POR once the rooms are all refurbed. POR is just so beautiful:goodvibes

Piano Bob's show is terrific. He gets everyone involved in his performances. We've had the pleasure of seeing him many times. My small claim to fame, he is my best friends cousin. :)

POR here we come August 26-Sept. 4. Ahhhhh it will be good to be back in our world again...

Lucky lol I still have 483 days til i get to go back but thinking about a May 2012 trip for my 30th bday....not sure yet cuz it would only be for 2 days. But either way, I am staying POR in the princess room! :lovestruc :lovestruc

I would like to know about the air mattress myself. My older children are boy girl twins . So if i can use a air mattress I could put Dd on it and Ds 14 and 8 . I would not want to break any rules if not allowed . We book AB preferred room .We have never stayed here and we saved a bundle booking here instead of AOA.

Air mattresses are allowed. We used one last year at Pop. It was a tight squeeze there but since there's a little more room at the mods, you might be more comfortable. Mousekeeping even made up the air mattress bed for us in the mornings!

The nice part of the mods is that they have a large closet/dressing/sink area where you can lean the air mattress during the day, out of the way of the floor space.
