If you do not pay for a "preferred" room, will you ever be just upgraded to one by a nice CM? Not expecting this but just wondering if that ever happens.

They have been known to sprinkle a little magic from time to time. Especially if you are celebrating something! Birthday, first visit, engagement, etc.

I'm booked for a preferred room and I plan to fax my room request info on Monday. Right now all I have resquested is Bldg. 14, ground floor. I recall you mentioning your preferred rooms in bldg 14. You said they had a partial view of the river? What room are the room numbers and are they considered waterview?

Can a room be considered both preferred AND waterview?

Thank you!

Ah ok, that makes sense! Thanks :)

Sometimes we have guests that stretch the truth about an anniversary or something and tell us they are celebrating something and tell us this at check in. You may or may not get a lil dust!

Oh, please don't think I was looking for a way to "stretch the truth" and get some extra pixie dust!! My dh called POR to inquire about something completely separate and the CM asked about any special celebrations we were having. He told her it would be our first time ever to WDW...which is it...and she was so nice and started talking about putting us in Bldg 14 because he had mentioned us having 4 children and 2 in strollers. Anyway, I was just curious since we did not pay for a preferred room. We are certainly NOT expecting anything. If we get pixie dust, we are thankful but not expecting it :goodvibes

Thank you! Really and truly, we'll have a magical time no matter where we are on the property. We can't wait :goodvibes

Water View - may have some views of ponds, pools, or water fountains.

Technically, water view means just swimming pool views now - no more fountain or pond views as those fall under the new 'Garden' category.

Can a room be considered both preferred AND waterview?

Again, technically no. There are only 8 rooms within the four preferred buildings that are actually designated as facing the swimming pool anyway (all in building 18 in fact) and all of those rooms are categorised as Water View on the lists. That said, there's always room for pixie dust upgrades if the resort is not full...

We had booked River View for our last trip, a category which does include all of the river-facing rooms in buildings 14 and 27. I had requested Alligator Bayou, and we were lucky enough to be given room 1416 which is a corner room that overlooks the river from both windows - very, very nice indeed. Many thanks to the excellent room allocation team!

Booked POR for me and my wife for December 9th-15th 2012. Booked just a standard room nothing special and have no plans of requesting a room or building. Is there any way someone will know where we might be located. I know you cant know for sure probably, but for two adults with no request where would they most likely place us. We booked back in June if that has anything to do with it. THANKS!

Upgrades are few and far between and happen for reasons beyond your control.

In addition, two years ago, Disney created several new categories based on many types of requests at the mods. People re willing to pay for it. Best to book what you want and do not expect to receive an upgrde.

Just happened to us. We had booked a standard view last year as part of a bounceback, and had requested first floor, corner room. Originally they put us in bldg 25 I think, and when I asked if it was a corner room, she said no, and called housekeeping. After a while, we were put in first floor, corner room in bldg 15. :goodvibes They knew we were celebrating our 15 year anniv, no idea if that had anything to do with it. Greatly appreciated though, since it was the only "upgrade" we've ever gotten in the last 15 years of going to Disney.

Disney does upgrade people out of the kindness of their heart but only for those not asking the world of requests. So I hope you have a great time! Enjoy that preferred room in building 14!

We hadn't made any room request and hadn't even fully decided if we would or not since we weren't sure where to request when you've not paid for anything other than a "garden view" :confused3 We just called to ask if some boxes we had shipped there to POR had arrived yet :) We still aren't counting on building 14 but if we are in that one, it will definitely add to our magic.

Andre is correct (as always :thumbsup2) I confirmed this when discussing the room categories the other day with a CM when adding a request to my ressie. We have booked Garden View & I was talking about being near a quiet pool, and she said pool views are in the Water View category, exclusively. The other water features (fountains, etc) are indeed included in Garden View.

Are the preferred AB buildings ONLY preferred? Is there any chance with a water view room of us being there? I would like building 18, on the quiet pool side, but would we only be able to get that if we were paying preferred? I plan on faxing some requests a few days before we leave in December.

I think I answered this one earlier today, but the eight Water (i.e. swimming pool) View rooms in building 18, and the River View rooms in buildings 14 and 27, are not counted under Preferred Location bookings. Preferred Locations are normally Standard or Garden View rooms only, officially anyway.

So you would be quite correct to book a Water View room and put in a request for building 18 if you wish.

Thanks for the update!! I went back and changed my reply. But ohh well... So now that I fixed it! Thanks again my friend it is impossible to keep up on all things lately!

1 week left then we r bk at POR, soo excited! its been since 2005 since we last stay here. Looking forward to exploring the resort once again :goodvibes

This time next week we will be at POR!!! Our plane lands at 10am at MCO. :)

I'm still stressed about room assignments. Normally I don't care but it will be hard if we are way out in AB somewhere while the rest of our group is in a Royal Room. Really wish it hadn't played out that way during booking, but what can you do? I just hope we can be in a mansion building so that we aren't TOO far apart!

Next Saturday we are spending the whole day enjoying POR. No parks until Sunday. Can't wait!
