Thank you Disneymom5!

No problem. Someone else may as well benefit from my obsessive planning.
Having seen the pics of the murphy bed, my 8 year old and 6 year old are now fighting over it. I was planning on having my 2 year old sleep in one (we'll have two rooms)...so they'll have to trade off for the other. LOL

Do the POR rooms have a freezer in the refrigerator? I've never stayed in a Moderate before, when we used to rent the mini refrigerators at the All Stars, they had a small freezer in the upper corner that we could freeze a bottle of water or two each night. I was wondering if the POR refrigerators had this too, or if they are just refrigerators.

no freezer...its just a beverage fridge that actually holds quite a bit.

Good afternoon everyone

We are headed to POR in September to celebrate our sons 8th birthday. I would love some pixie dust to be close to the main building but don't count on it.

I was thinking about upgrading to the Royal Room but I know it seems to be girly. Has anyone stayed there with just boys and they really liked it?

Thanks for your help.

oh my goodness the CMs have got to be sick of us already today lmao We have made so many changes in our dates and room catergory. First we were gonna go in Feb but found a better deal for April....then we thought we might not be able to get FD in April so we changed it back to Feb. The MIL thinking we were still going in April planned a trip in Feb to see my neice. So we changed it back to April. First we booked a RGR but then bumped it down to Riverview...then bumped it further to waterview and then back up to riverview.

Hubster said no more changes until its time to make our ADRs lol

Anyone need a score card to keep track lmao

They are just fridges. And the values now have beverage coolers in all the rooms. No more fridge swaps.

I have a question.

In looking at the map for POR, it appears a number of smoking areas are located on the path directly in front of the Royal Guest Rooms. The other two mansion buildings barely have any smoking areas nearby.

Has anyone noticed the smoking areas being a problem?

Cigarette smoke irritates my throat, and I prefer not to walk through a smoking area, if I can avoid it.

We have reserved a river view room and will be going back and forth to the pool and restaurants. Will we be walking through a lot of smoke each time? Is it enough to warrant switching to one of the other two mansion buildings instead?

Thanks!

I dont think there would be a problem. All the times i stay there i never see anyone smoking...Well lets hope so too when u go!! Have a great trip!!!

I did an 8 day, all resorts, no parks trip and stayed Riverview in Parterre Place and hardly ever remember seeing people smoking...

Are the mattresses in the murphy bed removable?

With a 4 year old, and a lack of bed rails, im hesitant to have him sleep on something he could roll off of. So if we could just put the mattress on the floor that could be handy.

I am with you on that, I have reactions to it as well. But I have been there first hand as well and don't foresee you to have a worry about it. I don't remember seeing anyone either.

OK, so all of you know, I'm just insane.

Now that you know that, after much debate, it has been officially decided. Our next trip we will be going to POR (yeah !:goodvibes ) in late August, 2014 ( ). I can't believe I have to wait that long. I might be able to convince DH to go August 2013. DS wants to wait until FL is completely done. So I'll just wait patiently :hyper: and lurk this post :badpc: living vicariously though you guys until we get to go...

(Does anyone know if there will be free dining :rotfl2:)

Even though summer break in late August is cited as one of the top times for CROWDED, Disney still has offered free dining for the times I've gone in August.

I'm sure I read someone else did that, I'll see if I can find the post

I absolutely LOVE insane people - welcome aboard :teeth:

It's been a couple of years since we stayed at Riverside but are excited to be going back. We booked a preferred room with the AP rate for September. This was the only room type available with the discount for our dates. I see that the room will be in the Alligator Bayou and that some of the rooms have a river view. To get a river view in this preferred section do I have to book a river view room or just make a request. I'm a little confused since river view preferred was not one of my options.

Thanks for your help!

The river view rooms (in buildings 14 and 27) are classed as RIVER view bookings, rather than Preferred Location bookings like the rest of those buildings.

You could try asking for a "corner river view" (for want of a better description) in buidling 18. These are not classed as River View, but they do have a second window which faces toward the river.

How big are the Murphy beds? They almost look like crib sized mattresses to me in the photos. Can a child who is almost five feet tall and around a 100 pounds sleep comfortably in them? I saw someone posted that they had an air mattress in the room. Is that allowed?

I've seen a pic somewhere of TWO children under the age of 10 sprawling on it. It's bigger than it looks. I'd say halfway between a crib and a twin. But I have not been there personally to measure it.

Oh, I found a pic! http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=44738022&postcount=606

ETA: I googled Port Orleans Riverside Murphy bed and clicked on "images" and there were many pics from different angles.

LOL That's my pic! So glad it's useful. :) Regarding younger kids and rolling off the bed, that's a valid concern. My son said it felt very "open" and a little higher than the normal beds. (I don't recall if it really was higher or just felt that way to him.) He didn't like the feeling of hanging out in space. He scooted as far "in" toward the wall as possible. If we had been there more than one night, he would have wanted to switch to a regular bed. So I guess although he just fit on the murphy bed, in reality he was too big for it since it didn't give him room to sleep normally. But then, he was almost 12 and I think these beds were designed for the 4-9y.o. crowd.

We have gone the last 3 years (and can't wait to get there again in a few weeks!) the last two weeks of August. Crowds have been very manageable and not a problem for us at all! That's one of the main reason we keep going back at the end of Aug...great crowd levels and free dining! :)

Andre, would this also be a King room? This request should be made around 5 days in advance and confirmed when we arrive, yes? We paid for a King room so I wasn't sure if any of this contradicted each other or not. Thank you for all your knowledge!
