I was wondering the same thing Ms Goofy. I wish I knew the layout of POR more....I've actually never stayed there and hubby and I are really looking forward to it. We requested building 18 or 14 in the AB so it's a prefered room anyway.....our first request was a KING room. I don't want to get too "needy" in the way of requests because we will more than likely be checking in (or attempting to) very early in the morning. A corner room with 2 windows would be lovely but in all honesty, I'm so stinkin' excited to be there I would probably be happy in a broom closet ;)

Do you know the room numbers of those rooms which are located in the Acadian or Magnolia section?

See http://www.portorleans.org/magnolia-bend.php for maps of the mansion buildings. The corner rooms are... well, the ones on the corners. Beware of the inside corners (such as by the lifts) as you'll just end up with an extra window facing into a stairwell or similar.

Which did you book? Both 'Preferred Location' and 'King Bed' are specific (i.e. paid) booking categories. If you booked King Bed, you could then request a room within one of the preferred buildings (e.g. 14 or 18) but if you booked a Preferred Location then technically you would get either a Standard or Garden View room, not Water/River Views or a King bed. See http://www.portorleans.org/room-requests.php for a full breakdown of how the booking categories at POR work.

I've seen pictures of the corner rooms and they appear to have two windows.

I'd like to make a fax request close to our arrival.

Thanks for the info!

We have never had such luck to have a corner room, We really would like one some day!!!

I booked a King bed and requested building 18 or 14. Now it's just a matter of calling and getting the fd on thursday, right? I hope everything will go smoothly and there won't be a problem getting my room with the dining. I do not want to have to switch resorts!

A certain number of rooms at certain resorts will be available for FD if it is offered - fingers crossed for you! :goodvibes

We are staying in a Royal Guest room river view (me, DW, 2DDs 6 & 2), is the first floor or best bet, or a top floor? Also, what are other suggestions for room requests? Thank you

I personally love the second floor, River view rooms in royal buildings. I would try to request oak manor building, just my preferrence. I would try to go with the it is positioned between the main building and another close by bus depot. There is another close by bus depot on the back side of the building. I can't give you suggestions on room numbers without knowing what room type you reserved. I know royal rooms, but river view, water view, or garden view or I believe even a standard view is possible also.

I did complain and they ended up doing some magic for us. But that was ridiculous. There were others we weren't alone. They somehow overbooked.

That was ridiculous, I'm sorry that happened to you :flower3: That is an abusive amount of time to hold you up, wow, just wow.

We like CP & this makes me nervous about our ADR on an EMH night :scratchin We'll hope for better luck :crowded:

Side note: About the corner rooms, I remember our first on-site stay at POFQ, I had NO idea about room requests, let alone corner rooms. The CM said, you're going to like your room. Boy did we, it was a corner, first floor room, basically you walked out of the main bldg, turned right and ours was the first room. DS was 4 at the time and loved having the playground right outside his room on the way to the serpent pool.

Looking back, I realize we got a big fat dose of pixie dust with that room! I hope to be so fortunate on our next trip pixiedust:

Yeah you did get a nice helping of pixie dust!!! Yeah that was enough for us at CP. We are definitly not going back this trip. It was an EMH night there, sorry, I do hope you have better luck then we did!

We werent all that impressed with CP either. I'm trying to convince hubster & MIL not to go there. So we compromised....we will not make an ADR at CP but we will stop in to see if we can get a table. I'm secretly hoping that we dont...yeah I'm bad like that lol

On a different topic...I cant wait for July 16. Thats when the packages open up. Our room is booked but we wanna book the package so we can start paying it off. Love booking online directly with Disney...its kinda like a layaway plan.

Does anyone know if the boat service from POR to DTD stays available until 11pm during slow times as well, like Sept? I would like to use this service on our stay this Sept. Thanks!

From portorleans.org:
The river cruise service linking Port Orleans Riverside, Port Orleans French Quarter and Downtown Disney commences at 10am daily. The service runs approximately every 20 minutes until 4:30pm, and then every 10 minutes until 11pm. After the boats finish operating you will still be able to use the free bus service which runs until approximately 2am.

Hi :wave2: staying in the Mansions section for the royal rooms in January. I really want to be as close to the bridge to the main lobby as possible. Would that be Oak Manor or Parterre Place? Also, Do either of these buildings have adjoinig rooms? We are traveling with family. TIA

We always try to ask for Oak Manor which we find easy access to the bridge and what not. We have gotten adjoining rooms there before. As always it's a request not a guarantee

Yeah we are waiting on those dates also. I hope you get what you want also. I believe it will be in your favor not to get a table. What were your dates again? Ares are March 1-9th. Might extend it a day or two. Waiting on March airfare dates to open up with Southwest, then we can pay for that also.

One question I can't seem to find a clear answer to: Is there Garden View rooms in Alligator Bayou?

WDW's website is out of date and lists Garden View rooms and Preferred rooms at POR as only sleeping four, and I've been told that is not true of Preferred (as all preferred are now part of AB, and all AB sleep 5.)

BUT...if I try to book a 5 person room during a promotion (hopefully free dining for Feb. '13) and the standard rooms are all booked...would there possibly be the option of a 5 person Garden View room?

Great thread...would be our first trip to POR...really appreciate all the time and effort that has gone into this thread!!!

[Also would appreciate any input for first timers...we've stayed at FW cabins, Pop, and AS Sports.]

Planning a trip last week of January 2013. I know the pools are heated but does Ol Man Swimming Pool hold the heat well. I know DS and I will be in and out of the pool on the slide. Will we freeze? Thanks!

I'm planning on going next year and starting to think about ADRs and was wondering on people's opinions of Boatwrights since we'll be staying at POR/POFQ. I've heard mixed opinions for the most part - even two different Disney guide books are mixed reviews (one great, one okay rating), but since all you guys love POR, what do YOU think? :)

We are going 2/14-23. Southwest told us they will be opening up dates up to Feb 14 around July16th. But they dont know when it will open up beyond that date. We have been buying Southwest gift cards since April....its another way we "save up" for the trip. Right now its about $1375 round trip direct flight for the 4 of us using Jan's dates.

correction: Its already open up to Feb 13...they do not know when they will open up more months.

yes there are garden rooms in AB. Just book that catergory and because you are a party of 5 you will automatically be in the AB.
