Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread --- 2012, Part Two --- NOW CLOSED

Staying at POR 6/15-6/24. DS16 DD10 and me. We are driving from NJ. Can I take my car and park at POFQ and take that bus for nights we will stay at a park late? I know sometimes the buses get crowded. Plus I am now partially handicapped. 1 knee is getting replaced in September or October and my other knee is getting worse. So I have a brace and cane and walk with a limp and lots of Advil. Thanks in advance for any info. Scott

I've no idea what you are actually asking to be honest - first, are you staying at Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter, you don't seem clear. Whichever anyway, you can of course park your car at the hotel (either of them) and then use Disney buses to get to and from the parks.

It seems like SCOTTNEON is staying at POR was concerned about either the 4 seperate stops of the bus or the reputation that POR has for crowded buses and was wondering if it would be kosher to take his car to POFQ and catch the bus there.

At least that's what I got out of it.

Ah, that would make sense. Yes, that would be possible; drive from POR, park near to the POFQ bus stop and get the Disney bus from there...

But to be honest, if you're going to go to the bother of walking over to the car, driving, re-parking, walking over to the bus stop - then why not just drive to the park and use the handicapped accessible parking area there? It's free, and with the possible exception of the Magic Kingdom would probably be much easier and far less time queueing after park closure.

My mother is now joining us for our trip, so I had our TA switch us from a regular Standard room to a Preferred location. :cool1: But she is saying that all the Preferred locations are sold out right now :confused3
If they were sold out, they wouldn't show up online, would they? If I do a fake booking online, Preferred is an option. Is she confused or am I?

Yes to BDL,you are correct. And thank you to the both of you (Andre) for trying to help. I was only really worried about the bus to and from MK. And as far as taking my car to the parks,I was worried that all the handicapped spaces would be filled and I would be stuck walking or waiting for a tram with 2 impatient children. lol

I'm not sure if you have booked the free dining package with this trip but we had the same problem. We booked free dining in August and wanted a preferred room but there were not available with that "class" for the package we were booking. There were and still are available rooms online in preferred locations, we can only book riverview, garden view or the royal rooms.

Book a royal room and you're nearly preferred.

Not in terms of location you'e not - some of the Royal Guest Rooms, especially on the far side of Parterre Place, are quite a trek from the main building area.

The map is so deceiving. I figured that building 90 was a near-preferred location, but didn't think the distance was all that much greater for Parterre.

Thanks! No, no FD. I told her that I was seeing them available online, so she called again and yes, they were available! So, we're all set now! :cheer2:

DH and I are currently planning on a trip in April of next year. We are seriously considering POR for our first on-site stay! I know that prices are not available online right now, but I'm wondering if I should call and book a room now? We need a room with a Murphy bed as we are a family of 5, our youngest will be nine for our trip. I just worry that they will run out by the time prices are released, or am I being paranoid?

If we do book it and something happens that we need to move it, will we have a problem? (DH's work has an annual trip that I am praying won't interfere with our plans, but you never know) What about if Disney decides to give out discounts for our travel dates, will we be able to apply them after the fact?

Thanks so much for any help you can give!

Jen :)

Yes, you are maybe being a little paranoid, but there's no harm in that! :)

You can make a booking now, and then check the rates as soon as they are released. You can change and modify your booking as often as you like, switch to discount options, etc - even cancel completely with no cost to you. Note: you can't cancel any closer than 6 days from arrival without losing your deposit though (45 days for package bookings).

We will be arriving on June 12 for a 6 night stay. Do you think there would be a possibility of purchasing an upgrade to a a preferred building when we arrive or would the resort be too full for us to do that? My DH and I were talking tonight and thought we might enjoy the option of a preferred room this time.

You have to question, what many would see, as the pure motive in doing so. Ask yourself, "Am I being true to myself and a good Disney citizen," and then it should be quite clear. Once you answer this question, if you're interested in doing so, everything will fall into place, provided that things work out the way you expected. However, if you choose to ignore simple logic....I don't even want to go there.

How is it not being a good Disney citizen to PAY for an upgrade to a preferred room upon arrival?

Social experiment. It's 11:30 PM. I just spent the last 4 hours painting a room and decided to loop 5 or 6 meaningless sentences together to see if someone had the "gusto" to try and decipher meaningless giberish. You ohnow, win the prize!
