We are a family of 4 going during FD. Will we be in the mansion section? I like the looks of the new AB rooms better. But it does look like the mansion rooms have a lot more storage. Should I put in a building request ?

With 1,024 AB rooms and 512 mansion rooms, it's around 2:1 odds that you'll be put in AB if you don't request otherwise. Actually a little lower I guess, when you take out the Preferred Locations and any families of 5 who need to be in AB.

I think you really need to expect that everywhere will be incredibly busy - and that will include the transportation to all the resorts I suspect, not just POR. Disney do lay on extra buses to cope with the demand, but still expect that if you leave Epcot at 9.15pm along with everyone else who's just watched Illuminations, you might have a wait ahead of you...

It's just about the busiest week of the year at WDW I'm afraid, but the atmosphere will be fabulous. Get to the parks early (MK will be open at 8am or earlier) if you want to do rides, and once the crowds get too bad just do shows and things with shorter lines and/or spend time at the shops/hotel/etc.

Andre

Excellent suggestions - thank you :) I'm expecting the busy but some of the things I've heard were not what I expect from Disney. We've got 8 full days so I'm hoping we can fit everything in that we want to plus we got tickets for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party - SOOO excited about that. This may be for my daughter but it's TOTALLY for me too lol :)

Last night the hubby said to me why don’t we stay at Disney a few extra days? I was so excited! I called Disney and they were able to extend our reservation. Southwest was a breeze to change our flights and the flights were even cheaper, so we got a refund on our rapid reward flights. I am one happy mommy today:cool1:

Pretty excited this morning. I've been going back into the Summer Savings deal ever since I booked our trip for 8/4-8/11. Was hoping to find a preferred building offer but was only getting Garden View which I originally booked. Went back in today and voila, there was my preferred room booking with only a $95 increase for our entire stay. Now I'm really pumped and have added the request for building 14. Hope we get it, but even if we don't the other preferred buildings look to be very close to the main building, pool, and bus stop.

And Andre, thanks so much for your update on your site about making room requests. The more I read that the more I wanted to be in a preferred building and close to the main pool. Now I have the fax information I'll need to send an additional request prior to arriving. I hope it works out, we'd love to be so close to the main stuff. We've always been a little spoiled at OKW with Hospitality House bookings I'd hate to be far away from the action.

Last question, the laundry rooms look really big, do they get very busy in general? I'm sure they are busier at different times of the day, but just in general is it difficult to get a washer and dryer?

Thanks!!!

Silly question- are the buildings containing the "Royal" rooms already considered preferred?

I copied the following from Post #1 of this thread;

There are now ten room categories: Standard, Garden View (which is new for 2012), Preferred Location, King Bed, Water View and River View. Starting from 9 March 2012, the new Royal Guest Rooms became available in Standard, Garden, Water and River Views. Each room category has its own pricing level. Note: there are no Preferred Locations or King Beds available in the Royal Guest Room buildings.

Bolding by me.

And there you have it. Thanks Bill. No worries anyway, since the buildings, especially #90, appear to be within a 2 minute walk of the food court, bus and main pool.

Going by posts on this thread, am I right in thinking that as a party of 2 adults we have a better chance of being placed in the Mansions?

Will definitely put in a request nearer the time but the consensus I'm getting is that they like to keep AB for bigger parties?

With the Royal Rooms now taking 512 mansion building rooms out of the regular mix, there are now twice as many AB rooms as there are regular mansion rooms, so that guideline doesn't really apply any more. I don't think they get anywhere near enough parties of five to fill all of the rooms in AB.

I think I'm just going to request AB section. I'm thinking building 38. Anyone have any experience with this location ?

We're going back to POR! With one child opting to stay with grandparents this trip (crazy, I know!:confused3), we are able to fit in one room at POR for the cheapest again! So, it's been a few years, but we're going "home" again! I can't wait to ride the boat to DTD!!

We wre in building 37 in March, right next door. Close to bus stop and quite pool but a short hike to main buildings. Very quite though.

Koz book the river view room and that will be as close to the front of the building as you can get for the Royal Room. We did that and it wasn't that much more. :goodvibes

Kelly we stayed in Building 15 a few years ago and it was great a short walk acroos a parking lot and we were at the main station also of course it was real close to the food court and main building a well. Building 38 looks good as well and not that far of a walk to main building. Good luck with your request sending Pixie Dust to youpixiedust:

I just got off the phone with a CM who told me I could not book POR because my youngest child is older than 9. I informed him my youngest child was over 9 the last 2 times we visited. He said they are not allowed to do it anymore, but went to the reservation specialist (his supervisor I guess) for permission. He was told I could book with 5 people but that they would not bring me alternate bedding if the trundle bed or whatever it is called now was too small. We will make due because this is the only way we can afford the trip....and we have done it before. We don't spend any time in the room except to sleep and shower and we are fine with the sleeping arrangements.
Haven't heard this one before - but that's a problem if this rule comes into effect. Once again a family of 5 will be forced to go to a suite or a deluxe, which will rule out many families being able to go to disney, including us.
We already have to upgrade to a moderate.

That's odd because I booked our room for 5 and our youngest are twin 11 year olds. Glad my booking is confirmed, but that would be bad for future reservations.

I am sure he is wrong, or misguided in some way. I have read multiple postings on here recently by people who have children older than 9 commenting on how they fit on the murphy bed in response to people asking.

At least I hope so anyway. I would hate to not be able to go back.
