Does it really make a difference if you call in to POR a few days before arrival for requests. Do they really look at it or should we just check in & make our requests again & wait for a room during the day? (I made 2 requests on the actual resv when I booked).

We have the building we'd like and connectnig rooms already on the ressie but we plan on faxing a couple of days before we leave and asking nicely again.

Sorry of this has been asked before but what # do you call to get the resort directly? Thank you. Believe it or not I want a parking lot view because we are driving & its easier to get to the car each morning & evening after the parks. Also requested as close to main building as possible so hoping for 16 or 17.

All th einfo you need is right here. :)

Woohoo! I have finally read all 125 pages of this thread. Thank you to all who have contributed, especially Andre.

When we were booking, we originally wanted POR Royal Room, but it was already full of free dining offers. We booked Caribbean Beach, but was able to switch after 4 calls back (one week between each call) to check on availability. :cool1:

It is our first stay at a moderate, and my parents first visit to Disney World. My parents don't know that we were able to make the switch and I'm not sure we will tell them ahead of time. My mom grew up in Louisiana and was disappointed when we weren't able to book it originally. I had finally gotten her sold on CBR. I think it will be a great surprise. Happy Trip Planning everyone! :goodvibes

Wow, thats dedication :teeth:

Your Mum is gonna be so excited! When you switched back did you manage to get Royal Rooms?

It's cool, PMed you and Casey with info.

Hi there - lots good info in this thread for sure and I check it every few days. We are staying at POR August 8-17 and we our very excited for our first family Disney trip.

We have booked a Royal room but as of now its just a standrad view, and have a couple questions. If you call... as suggested here a few days prior to check in, can you request a garden view at no addtional cost if they have avialable ?

Also what are the advantages of doing on-line check-in ? Will that mean a shorter check-in on arrival day ? We used a Disney travel specialist to book out vacation, so can we still do online check in if I have the confrimation number ?

Thanks in advance - looking forward to stay at POR as it sounds fantastic !

I've read all of Andre's wonderful advice about making the requests via phone or fax from 2 - 5 days prior to arrival. What I'd like to know is if anyone has a template of the fax you've used? I can build one myself but if anyone has used one that's been successful in the past that would be great. That may be something Andre could put on his site for future use. I'd be lost without this thread and all his incredible work on the portorleans.com site. My kids continue daily to pour through all the pictures and information.

We're getting very excited as the days are slowly counting down. I want to be ready to make that last request before we get there. Thanks for all your help!!!

Made final payment last night now there's no turning back.:woohoo: This will be our first stay at POR since 2003 and our first non-Value stay since 2006. It's been way too long. Last August we visited POR one night. We walked around and ate dinner at the food court. We realized how much we missed the place and decided that our next trip would be to POR.

We've been staying at Values because we've been to WDW so many times it just seemed like a waste of money paying for Mods and Deluxe. The old been there done that thing. But the Values were starting to get old and annoying. We need a break from the Value thing. I'm looking forward to a non-giant-cartoon icon, relaxing vacation.

My wife says she'll never do Value again. I'm not so sure, but for now I can't wait to get back to my favorite Mod.

I LOVE the values, but...after looking at the pics of POR, then looking at pics of the values...they seem like a LOT of concrete. I don't remember them being so concrete-ish when we were there.
POR reminds me of FW in the way it seems so removed and peaceful.

I'm REALLY hoping the free dining comes through for Winter '13...I need an excuse to stay at POR. LOL

I've got quite an extensive page on the subject of room locations and making special requests at http://www.portorleans.org/room-requests.php. This includes all of the official Disney-supplied fax and phone numbers which guests should use to contact the resort. However, please remember that you will need to ask the person who answers your call to transfer you to someone on-site in the room allocations team, as calls are initially answered by a large central call center (which in some cases may not even be in Orlando).

Of course individual office-based cast members do all have their own desk telephones for internal use, however I would not wish to make any of those numbers generally available - nor routinely hand them out to anyone who happened to ask - as I think that would be an unfair imposition on someone who is just trying to do the best job they can for all of the resort's guests. If their direct number was meant to be generally guest-accessible, I'm sure they would arrange to have it published.
