Oh, and I'll be bringing loads of my own coffee. I could not, in good conscience, leave my Community Coffee Carnivale Cake coffee at home. :surfweb:

Thanks!

:lmao: Same here... There is this local convenience store that has their own milk and dairy products. We love their coffee and will be bringing it with us :surfweb:

Has anyone on here stayed in one of the refurbished rooms in AB? Even after I told my TA that the rooms are open she still tells me that the rooms will not be open when I check in on March 24!:confused3 I just want to scream!:scared1:

We stayed in one 2 weeks ago and loved it!

Last spring when I told several couples of our June visit to POR they said don't miss the 5 min. walk to POFQ for the Beignets. So DW and I walked on over (about 10 min from AB14) and was ok but the wife who is a pastry chef was not impressed. She stated they were ok but nothing to write home about.
I would say try all that Disney dinning has to offer and if you love Cajun wait till you get back home. Try the resteraunts at AK for something different.

Now how on Earth do you mess up beignets? lol

Just try the POFQ ones. Then try to solve the mystery.

Actually, they taste great...until you have CDM ones to compare them to. Then you wonder why you thought they tasted better the last time you had them.

Well, we leave for POR this coming Monday! I'm so excited as this is my first trip back to WDW since 1993, and it's the first time taking my 3 boys: 5, 3, 21-months. We're all super excited!

The ironic part, however, is that the POR will just be a "home away from home" for us. LOL. Why? Because my in-laws and hubby are from New Orleans (actually south of N.O.), and I was born and raised and live in Baton Rouge. We're still excited none-the-less. :yay:

It just so happened that we were supposed to stay at the AK, but canceled that reservation and re-booked with a TA in order to take advantage of the free dining plan (we decided we'd rather save the money now when our boys are young and won't care where we stay, and stay at the AK when they're a bit older). When we booked, it turned out that the POR package was $200 cheaper than for us to all stay at any of the value resorts. :confused3

So from Louisiana to "Louisiana" we go! popcorn::

Oh, and I'll be bringing loads of my own coffee. I could not, in good conscience, leave my Community Coffee Carnivale Cake coffee at home. :surfweb:

But I do have one question: While I'm glad that we can continue our semi-traditional "beignets for breakfast", I'm curious as to what to expect in terms of the food. I'm sure it will be good, but I'll be honest and say that when you are from Louisiana, you tend to be very critical of Cajun and Creole food cooked in other states (usually we don't even bother eating it). So I'm wondering if we will be pleasantly surprised or if we should branch out at other eating places throughout WDW.

Thanks!

I tried the POFQ beignets and they were OK. Just OK. The Muffuletta was DIVINE!!! But then I ordered the same sandwich here at POR and they served it cold, where POFQ served it warm, like from a press.

Jump on over to my Live Dining Review (link in my siggy) for a few more reviews!

does any1 knwo what time the boats stop running to and from down town disney?

I THINK 11, but don't quote me? I also think it changes with the time of year?

Just went over to POR yesterday for lunch to enjoy my fav Make Your Own Pasta, yum! It was a beautiful day and we sat outside to eat. Watching the world go by. And the Brazillian Tour Group staying there, lol.
The resort is as beautiful as ever. We walked around AB, #14 was being painted outside.
Then walked over to FQ. Building 6 was closed due to low occup., and other buildings were closed too, and area around Main Building, they are making it wheelchair compliant with new regulations. So saw lots of boarded up areas at FQ. I guess all the resorts will have to do this to be compliant with new saftey regulations?
Then we took the boat to DTD. When we aren't staying here, still have to come for a visit.

Y'all have me cracking up about the beignets. :lmao:

I think I'm just going to grab some coffee and beignets (Cafe du Monde, of course ;) ) on our way out, and make sure we bring at least 5 king cakes with us to tide us over until we get back home. Oh, and I'm definitely bringing my Community Coffee.

I think this is going to be fun. I just hope that the CMs don't laugh at my f-i-law. He sounds like the guys off of Swamp People. :rolleyes1

FIVE king cakes? Just how long is this trip of yours?!

And, where are you going to get the king cakes from? THAT is the important question!

What parish is your FIL from?

P.S. I bring Community Coffee to WDW with me also. But I drink the New Orleans blend with chicory. I've tried Carnivale Cake, but I don't care much for flavored coffee and/or creamer.

I am amazed nobody has mentioned this so far (unless I missed this of course), but the NOLA theme is at French Quarter, not at all at POR. Ni beignets to be had at POR:confused3

I did give you all the info you asked for in a previous post, but if you still don't believe me here are some photos. Unless of course your travel agent thinks I Photoshopped them? ;) Point your TA to www.portorleans.org if they still insist that they know better.

There was a huge change in the AAB regulations this past year, due to some pretty hefty law suits. The DOJ came down hard on the AAB, and we are also re-modifying areas that had been up-to-code. Disney is really good keeping up with the current modifications. I work in govt. and it takes us a lot longer to modify our buildings, due to funding issues. The DOJ is especially coming down hard on Courts this year, in our state. While there is a great deal of irony in that, the fact is that they cannot up hold law suits, and then have their own buildings not comply......;)

The last boat LEAVES the Marketplace at 11:00 pm. It stops at POFQ and then docks at POR for the night.

The buses run until 1:00 am.

After that, it is a taxi.

Where'sPiglet, they're from the southeast part of St. Charles Parish. As for the 5 kingcakes, we have 6 adults and 3 kids going for 7 days/6 nights. But I love kingcake for breakfast with my coffee. And I'm going to pick them up from a teeny local bakery near where I live. They are heavenly!!! I also buy from Gambino's at times.
